Hair Loss

Diagnosed by blood test before Christmas (fun) and gluten-free free since then. At the time of diagnosis they also tested iron and thyroid and both were fine. I've had far less stomach issues since. I had bad horizontal ridges in my nails and they have grown out now. But I'm still tired and have almost no hair left at my temples. I'm taking a multivitamin and a D supplement. I have tried vitamin B supplements and have yet to find one that doesn't give me HORRIBLE cystic acne after a few weeks so I've waste money on those. I have Gluten-Free hair products and so I don't think that's the issue. Any other suggestions? I know it isn't the end of the world, but since I can't have a piece of my favorite deep dish pizza I'd like my hair to come back. It's getting depressing.

Biotin is supposedly helpful.  I would have guessed your thyroid was involved... :(  I hope you figure it out..

I had my thyroid tested (not just t3) in December at the same time I was tested for celiac and it was fine. Is it fairly common for the thyroid to freak out with the gluten free diet switch? For whatever it's worth my mom has hashimotos. Grr. Guess I'll go get that tested once we get our insurance back (lost job). Maybe biotin won't be as rough on me as the b complex so I'll try that, too. It's all really frustrating.

Your hair basically shows your health/nutrition status from three months prior*, so it can become worse even after switching to a gluten free diet. Now obviously you've been gluten free much longer than 3 months, but considering that it can take a while for the body to recover from coeliac damage and start correctly absorbing nutrients, perhaps your body just needs more time? Yay for the horizontal ridges (white marks too?) disappearing from your nails — you're on the right track. May you get fluffy regrowth soon. :)

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.
