Juice Plus

Juice Plus is powdered fruits and veggies in pill form.  It will be around $50-$70 per month but claims to help with lots of issues.  I can't decide if I should commit or not.  Many of the studies are self funded by the company so I don't know how biased they are.  I want to feel good again but I don't know if this is the right way to do it. Does anyone have an option they would be willing to share with me.  I am specifically wanting the opinion of those with celiac.

Can we think of this logically? How  much powdered fruit could be in a pill?    A couple of molecules of carrot?  Just eat a whole carrot stick and you will get more  than could be powdered up in one pill.

If it is the vitamin equivalent of 1 carrot (as my example),  than how is that different from eating any other vitamin?

I hear you.  That is why I am conflicted.  It's some really high number of fruits and veggies and lots of people who love it and swear by it.  I believe Celiac.com is a more neutral opinion.  Thank you Kareng.

My point is - its not physically possible to "powderize" a veggie and give you the whole veggie in a tiny pill.  Also, I thought they are not gluten-free?

Here's to my first attempt in 2 years of following this site to make a post. Hope it goes well..

I am an extremely sensitive celiac.  I tried juice plus. They didn't work for me. About a week into taking the. Recommended dose I began to get serious headaches and exhaustion. When I called the company they told me the product was gluten free and I had to ask them..        "CERTIFIED GLUTEN FREE, or just less than 20ppm?" She said they were not certified. However, the person that sold them to me and her up line kept pushing yes they are gluten free.. The person I got them from was a new           distributor her up line had been in the business for years. With that being said. Just be very careful with juice plus if your sensitive and know your own body's warning signs. I can feel subtle symptoms if I get traces of gluten so I knew what that meant. I ended up returning  2 whole bottles and selling the opened ones back to the person I got them from.

Good luck!

Estes, if the studies are self funded by the company who sells the product then there is 100% chance that those studies are biased because they want to sell their product.

I would certainly read Open Original Shared Linkdebunking the Juice Plus Claims.

Stick to real fruits and vegetables and you will be fine.  :)

Here is my opinion.  After being gluten free for three years, I have healed.  I am not deficient in anything per my lab tests.  I do not take ANY supplements.  I just eat a  diet that includes whole natural veggies and some fruit every day.  Give your self time to heal and make sure you are eating properly.  I know that when you are first diagnosed you want to heal fast, but you just need to be patient.

If you want better absorption, stick to easy-to-digest foods like stew and soups for a few weeks.  It can be hard to digest raw veggies and even fruit at first.  Make big batches on the weekends and freeze individual servings to take to work.  Get a crockpot.    Consider taking enzymes too until your body is able to produce and release them properly.

You will feel better soon. ?

I have to agree with the responses.  I wouldn't do it.  If a food has been processed down to a powdered form then many of the natural nutrients has probably been processed out as well.  Also how many other ingredients have been added into this to make it "pill form".  Much healthier to eat a carrot than take it in pill form.

In the beginning o my healing process the doctor suggested only eating cooked veggies as opposed to raw.  Easier to digest

Hi Colleen Are you supplementing B12/having injections? I have learned recently that sometimes when you start addressing a B12 deficiency, it can temporarily make your symptoms worse.  But it is important not to stop the treatment.  Regarding your problems with anxiety, again that is another symptom of a B12 deficiency.   I didn't know what anxiety was until it hit me like a train several months before gastrointestinal issues began, so I can certainly relate.   Two books which helped me hugely were At Last A Life by Paul David (there is a website you can look up) and The Depression Cure: The Six-Step Programme to Beat Depression Without Drugs by Dr Steve Llardi.  Although his book is aimed at people who have depression, following the principals he sets out was so helpful in lessening my anxiety.  Llardi suggests we need to focus on getting enough: - physical exercise - omega-3 fatty acids - natural sunlight exposure - restorative sleep - social connectedness - meaningful, engaging activity   ... and we should feel a lot better. That is not to stay you must stop taking medication for depression or anxiety if you have been prescribed it, but adopting the changes Dr Llardi sets out in the book should really help. Can I just ask two more questions:  1) you say that you are B12 deficient, did they test your iron levels too?  If not, you really ought to be checked for deficiency and, 2) did they check your thyroid function, as an overactive thyroid can be cause rapid heartbeat and a lot of coeliacs have thyroid issues? Hello still dancing around my celiac disease and not getting medically backed up considering Ive been glutenfree since 1994.All my ailments are the core issue of my ghost disease aka celiac disease. Im angery because the "celiac specialist " basically lightly dismissed me.Im extremely angery and fighting for a new primary care physician which is hard to do in Northern Cali.So currently without and looking.Im angery that its lightly taken when its extremely serious to the one who has it.My only evidence is a brochure back in the days when I got news letters when I lived at my parents. It was published in 1998.I was diagnosed before any foods eliminated from my diet. Angery doctors don't take seriously when Im clearly speaking.I did write to the medicine of congress and have case number.

I totally get this. It's absolutely a grieving process, and it's okay to feel gutted about the loss of those simple joys, especially at 18. Your feelings are completely valid—it's not about being ungrateful for your amazing boyfriend, it's about mourning the life you thought you'd have. That "tortured by the smell" feeling is so real. It does get easier, I promise, but it's okay to sit in the sadness and just vent about how much it stings right now. Thanks for sharing that. Celiac.com has published a book on our site by Jean Duane PhD called Gluten-Centric Culture, which covers many of the social aspects of having celiac disease: This chapter in particular covers issues around eating with family and others - Gluten-Centric Culture: Chapter 5 - Grabbing A Bite Together:
