Hi,

This is my first time here. I hope this is the correct place to post this. Sorry if it's not.

I have recently been diagnosed with Celiac disease. I am 25 and live in Australia. For most of my life I have been sick. I catch everything going under the sun. Someone could sneeze at one end of the office building and the next day I'd have caught the cold. I've also had stomach pains since I was a child. I was sent to doctor after doctor and poked and proded and no one could tell me what was wrong until recently. For the last few years I've been on antibiotics every month or so and a few months ago I was on my third lot of antibotics in a month when I was finally tested for celiac disease (which I had never heard of). It's now been 6 months and I haven't been sick or had to take any medication. It's unbelievable. I even have my energy back which has been missing. I had days where I could barely lift my arms above my head. Now youcan't stop me. It's made an amazing difference.

Here in Australia I don't think there is enough awareness made about celiac.

I'm still trialling different foods which has been difficult with gluten-free labeling not great over here.

For any other Australian members I have discovered the cadbury website has a list of their gluten free chocolate. thank goodness, I can't live without my chocolate fix. Also if you email Masterfoods they will send you a very detailed list of their gluten free products.

I hope this helps others.

If anyone has any information about foods, diet etc... I'd really appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum. I'm in the US, but I lived in Queensland when I was a kid, so HI.

I myself just got diagnosed in July. Welcome to a whole new world huh?

I accidently found the kraft list for australia one time.

Is vegemite gluten-free? I suppose not, as its made by Kraft, and I didn't see it on the list. I'm on of those wierd people who likes it with kippers on toast. Its weird here at least.

Hope you fiind good stuff. I have to go feed the cat now before she kills me.

I am also a recent diagnosy from Canada. There isn't a lot about in my neck of the woods either. Wish I lived in BC where they have tons more stuff for Celiac's.

And to round it all off nationally, I'm in Ottawa. I've also found that, at least in this part of Canada, there's very little variety in gluten-free foodstuffs. And the prices! Don't get me started! Anyone know where I can get a loaf of gluten-free bread for under five bucks?

HI!

I am Australian too, but living in the US. I had been to doctors in Oz and here, 26 years and two countries later I finally have an answer....I'm not a wierdo! Just wanted to say HI.

Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it.

I went to a Christmas Party last night which is hard because trying to work out what I can eat and not does take some of the fun out of it. Anyway we each had to bring a plate of something to share with everyone and I found out there was another girl who also suffers from celias and she brought a gluten free cheesecake. Wow it was fantastic, exaclty like I remember normal cheesecake! I didn't realise how much I missed it until I tried it again. She's sending me the recipe which I'll post on here when I get it.

      Thanks for sharing that site! Do you know if that site has any information about manufacturing/possible cross contact on it? I can't find it. When I have called manufacturers, most of them say they can't guarantee no cross contact in manufacturing (except Lannett, Mylan and possible Amneal, which aren't available near me).

      Hi everyone, I have celiac disease and I’m asymptomatic, which makes things more stressful because I don’t know when I’ve been glutened. That’s why I try to be really careful with cross-contamination. For almost a year, I’ve been having yellow/orange floating stools consistently. I’m not sure if it’s related to gluten exposure or something else going on. I’ve been trying to identify any possible mistakes in my routine. Today, I made myself some gluten-free bread with cheese.       So eight days in a row of gluten on top of gluten on top of gluten, I just had to resort to the EpiPen. I wish I could post a picture because you wouldn’t believe how enormous my gut is! It makes my head look like a pinhead.Ahhhgggsahhhhh!!!! I have discovered that I have to read the ingredients when I use a product up that I’ve been able to use without getting a reaction, because they can change the ingredients and bam my toothpaste now has gluten!!! my doctor told me gluten free means it has 20 ppm which someone with a severe a celiac as I’ve got that thing there kills me. I try to find certified gluten-free in everything. I can’t eat any oats unless it’s Bob’s red mill...

      Lubriderm-gluten-free?

      I have been using a little bit of Lubriderm when I wash my hands because it’s the lotion offered at a place I frequent once a week. Assuming it was gluten-free I bought a bottle. I couldn’t figure out why I was getting gluten EVERY night. I use a little of the lotion in the morning on my neck, with no reaction, but at night, I use it on my arms and legs and face and get gluten gut pretty bad. After eight nights of having to have diphenhydramine injections for severe gluten, I googled “is Lubriderm gluten-free” and it led me to this forum. I am going to go back to olive oil as I have been gut sick sooooooo bad with a huge gut and pain eight days in a row now. Sick of feeling sick.
