There Is Hope---but Not Out Of The Water Yet

i got a call from the doctor about my daughter's biopsy results. her esophagus looked great during the endo---but microscopically, she has a pretty good case of esophagitis--this was a surprise, he said she must be refluxing alot. (she rarely complains of heartburn) he said her small intestine shows no villous atrophy, but in one area it does show raised lymphocites, like you would see with celiac. he said she does not have celiac, yet. we have some hope, but she is not out of the water yet. he told me that her blood work showed that she has tissue damage, but it does not tell what is causing the damage. for now, he wants her to stay on a normal diet while she is treated for the reflux. he wants to do blood work again in 6-12 weeks. he said if she does not have celiac, the antibody levels will drop. i think that i still want to try some gluten free recipes in the meantime---this should not hurt the next test results, should it---as long as most of her diet has gluten in it?

If you have her go totally gluten-free it can affect the results to a false negative. I am so glad that I do not have to repeat another blood test as I could not take 6-12 weeks of gluten now, nor would I want to, I am lucky/unlucky to have DH. However, I know when I have been glutened my face becomes a mess.

she needs to make sure to get the equivalent of about three slices of wheat bread a day, every day, but other than that, trying gluten free recipes with gluten-based stuff isn't a problem. a lot of stuff you make may already be gluten free.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
