Gluten Free Pantry

Does anyone know the status of GFP's Favorite Sandwich Bread Mix? My local Whole Foods is wiped out of gluten-free Pantry Mixes and GFP removed some mixes from their website.

Ingredients: Brown rice flour, rice flour, cornstarch, potato starch, powdered skim milk, whey, brown sugar, guar gum, salt and gluten-free yeast.

Looking for almost exact formula in bread mix. Boy did this ruin my day.

I can't seem to find a product that I know you carry, in your Online Store.

  • On occasion, we sell out of certain high demand products and they become back ordered. In this situation, these back ordered items are temporarily removed from our Online Store. If you have a question regarding products in our Online Store please contact us at Open Original Shared Link and we will gladly assist you.

I hope that is all it is... I love their mixes. I did a search and couldn't find my favorite coffee cake mix too...

As luck would have it, I got the GFP's new catalogue in the mail the other day. The Favorite Sandwich Bread is listed. This catalogue is great--it has the GFP products as well as Glutino, some Ener-g, Sorella Bakery, Dr. Schar, Bumble Bar, ANDI, some Orgran, Nature's Path, Enjoy Life, Tinkyada, Freeda's Vitamins, cookbooks, etc. Nini--the Coffee Cake Mix is also listed.

Guest nini

Very cool... The coffee cake tastes JUST LIKE the coffee cake my mom used to make when I was younger... I would be VERY upset if they stopped making it!

Bwahahahaaha, that's because I bought it all up :P Just kidding, but I did last week order online from GFP for the first time because my local whole foods has been out of the ginger spice cake mix (which makes the most delicious ginger bread men) for over a month! And, you know, if you're going to order online and pay shipping, you might as well try it all, LOL.

Nini's post described what is going on on Gluten Free Pantry's website. There is no listing for a lot of their great products. That coupled with the empty Gluten Free Pantry shelf at Whole Foods made me conclude that they are going out of business or stopped making this product.

I sent them an email too and I'll report back when I get answer.

We think it's the best bread mix (for those whose can't have soy or sorghum or fava or chick pea flour like my husband).

Merika Contributor

Hi,

Just reporting that my order of stuff arrived today from GFP....AND when I was at whole foods today they had in TONS of the ginger spice cake that initially made me order online (snort).

Merika :)

hmmm...my Whole Foods store on Sat. had a ton of the non-bread mixes too.

I am much more concerned about the bread mixes like Favorite White Bread Mix or French Bread mix. That's a basic for my husband and I.

They had a ton of pie crust mix, brownie mix, muffin mix but no bread mixes and the website don't show the above two bread mixes either.

I didn't get a response from GFP yet (by email)

If I don't hear by Tuesday evening, I am phoning them on Wednesday morning.

I got an e-mail back from them yesterday... they said the products are JUST BACKORDERED... Do not panic! They have not stopped making them and they will be selling them on the website again soon.

Merika Contributor

I take it all back, what I said before!!!

Upon closer inspection, my order was only half complete. One item was listed as included, but was in fact missing. The other items were just absent. This is my first order from them and what can I say, i was not impressed.

I called today, to find 2 items were backordered but she could send them this week. The others were backordered til who knows when, and she'd credit me. If I hadn't called I would have been charged the full amount and they never would have sent me the backorder items!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I placed my order days before they switched their system to this new half-baked idea of removing products from the site that are backordered. HUH? Who removes a product they sell???? I suggested they list the products, just not allow users to add the item to the cart. Duh!

So, if you have ordered recently, check your order!!!!!!!!!

And if you talk to them, tell them to change their website!!!!

new to gluten-free mail order and not loving it

wife to a web developer and probably thinking too much about site usability :P

I called Whole Foods to see if they got any new shipments in and they tell me that their distributor can't get any product.

I'd prefer that they keep the product on the site as long as they are making it and even allow you to order it, but at end tell you that there's a 30 day or whatever back order time period, and that if they do not ship after 30 days, the items must be re-ordered by the customer as they don't hold the records longer than that, or something like that.

But, now the question is, why are they short on their products? What is going on with them? GFP merged with Glutino and it appears to be sliding downhill. I was thinking that maybe they re-designed their packaging to show both names or their combined new name....if so, they should say so on the site.

In my experience, usually when a company suddenly has a hard time getting a product to market there's a serious problem going on and that's when you find out that they are either out of business or sold to another concern.

I hope they go back to normal soon.

Guest nini

I hope they go back to normal soon too... this is really really scaring me as I love so many of their products and can't imagine having to do without them FOREVER!

I postal mailed in an order a couple of weeks before christmas and STILL have not recieved it. Last week I finally got a call from this woman that I could hardly understand on my answering machine. She said some of my items were back ordered and wanted to know if I would like them to go ahead and ship the rest of the things and send me a credit voucher for the remaining items. I tried calling her back several times with no luck. Finally I got annoyed and just sent a e-mail to the company and asked them to forward it on to this lady who called since I was getting no where. I got a nasty e-mail back from a lady saying that I would HAVE to speak with this one lady who called, but I couldn't reach. In my e-mail I had asked them to FORWARD the mail on to the chick soooo I wrote a "kind" note back and asked them again to forward it.

When I got home from work that night I had another message from the chick on the answering machine saying she was just going to ship out my order and send a credit voucher for the out of stock items. Then went in a checked my e-mail and had an e-mail saying she was holding my order she just got my forwarded email. I mailed her back and told her to hang onto my order until it was complete because I can't afford to pay so much for shipping just because they can't keep items in stock.

I have never had so much trouble with this company before. They need to get this figured out or they will be loosing customers soon. It is more than rediculous!!

Well, I heard back from them via email today and they told me to do my order next week. It was a short sentence basically just telling me that. so next week I'll go to site and see if what I want to order is there or not. but I will institute a Plan B.

I stopped in at my local Health Food Store yesterday and they had just gotten a shipment of gluten free stuff in, among the stuff I saw more Favorite Sandwich Bread Mix and Coffee Cake Mix, so this is a good sign right?

debmidge Rising Star

Yes, good sign

then on site they show the 5LB bag of the Favorite Bread Mix.

I am going to Whole Foods today to check their stock out too.

jerseyangel Proficient

I was at Acme this morning and they have restocked the GRP shelf! Fav. Sandwich Bread included.

debmidge Rising Star

Where is this Acme as I am in NJ too....?

went to whole foods yesterday and they are still out of Fav brd mix

jerseyangel Proficient

It's the one in Burlington Twp. (where I live). Are there any Acme's where you are? You could even call if they're not close and check before you go.

debmidge Rising Star

Yes I do have one next door to me, but it is very very small and I wouldn't expect them to carry gluten-free Pantry mix. I guess I could ask....

jerseyangel Proficient

I don't know if this will help, but I asked at my Acme about stocking a certain juice that my son loves. The man told me that if Acme stocks a product in their warehouse, an individual store can get it. If (as in the case of the juice) Acme doesn't stock it in the whse., they can't order it. Since my Acme (which is also a small store) carries GFP, you may want to ask the manager at yours--and tell him that other Acme's already carry them.

RE: Acme

Good thinking, thanks a lot, I'll give it a try

gluten-free Pantry returned my call today and said that they were having trouble getting supplies from supplier but everything should be back to normal in a couple of weeks.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
    • trents
Under the circumstances, your decision to have the testing done on day 14 sounds very reasonable. But I think by now you know for certain that you either have celiac disease or NCGS and either way you absolutely need to eliminate gluten from your diet. I don't think you have to have an official diagnosis of celiac disease to leverage gluten free service in hospitals or institutional care and I'm guessing your physician would be willing to grant you a diagnosis of gluten sensitivity (NCGS) even if your celiac testing comes up negative. Also, you need to be aware that oats (even gluten free oats) is a common cross reactor in the celiac community. Oat protein (avenin) is similar to gluten. You might want to look at some other gluten free hot  breakfast cereal alternatives.

After the birth of my daughter nearly 6 years ago, my stools changed. They became thin if they happened to be solid (which was rare) but most of the time it was Bristol #6 (very loose and 6-8x a day). I was on various medications and put it down to that. A few years later I went on this strict "fruit and meat" diet where I just ate meat, fruit, and squash vegetables. I noticed my stools were suddenly formed, if a bit narrow. I knew then that the diarrhea was probably food related not medication related. I tried following the fodmap diet but honestly it was just too complicated, I just lived with pooping 8x a day and wondering how I'd ever get and keep a job once my children were in school.  This past December I got my yearly bloodwork and my triglycerides were high. I looked into Dr. William Davis (wheat belly author) and he recommended going off wheat and other grains. This is the first time in my life I was reading labels to make sure there was no wheat. Within 2 weeks, not only were my stools formed and firm but I was only pooping twice a day, beautiful formed Bristol #4.  Dr. Davis allows some legumes, so I went ahead and added red lentils and beans. Nervous that the diarrhea would come back if I had IBS-D. Not only did it not come back, it just made my stools even bigger and beautiful. Still formed just with a lot more width and bulk. I've also been eating a lot of plant food like tofu, mushrooms, bell peppers, hummus etc which I thought was the cause of my diarrhea before and still, my stools are formed. In January I ran a genetics test because I knew you had to have the genes for celiac. The report came back with  DQ 2.2 plus other markers that I guess are necessary in order for it to be possible to have celiac. Apparently DQ 2.2 is the "rarer" kind but based on my report it's genetically possible for me to have celiac.  I know the next step is to bring gluten back so I can get testing but I am just not wanting to do that. After suffering with diarrhea for years I can't bring myself to do it right now. So that is where I am!
