Was Thinking Maybe It Was All In My Head

I know others here have said things like, "I thought it was all in my head, so I ate _______ and then suffered." So I know I'm not alone. Since I've never been officially diagnosed, just know that I feel way better off gluten, I have started thinking again that maybe I don't have to be so careful. My family wanted to go to Azteca Mexican restaurant after church today. I'm tired of saying, "No, let's go somewhere I can eat safely", so I didn't say anything. I ordered a Tostada salad. Didn't even ask about cross contamination or gluten free. After all, it's just chicken, lettuce and tomatoes (no cheese for me) on top of a corn tortilla. How could that be harmful? And I'm tired of asking questions and explaining what I can and can't eat. Well, here I sit with horrible gas, yucky feeling in my stomach, a headache, and feeling weepy and depressed. When am I going to learn? For goodness sakes, the Seahawks WON today! I should be on top of the world! (Born and raised in Seattle, always a faithful 'Hawks fan.) But here I sit feeling like crying and am so mad at myself for being so stupid. Gee, maybe my husband has been right all along when he says I get moody and maybe it's something I ate <_< .

Thanks for letting me vent. My friends would think I was really crazy if I said that I felt depressed after eating something I shouldn't. They can understand the stomach ache part, but not the mental aspect.

Hope you feel better soon, Liz. It takes a while before you're not tempted to cheat as much. It's harder when you're feeling good in a way, because it really DOES seem like it must be in your head. Plus how can something so good make you sick? :P Anyway, hang in there. x

Last year my parents spent 4 months in Nigeria for vacation/business. And when they got back of course they told me everything they found out about the place. One very interesting piece of information was that they don't eat wheat anymore. And when they do, they become sick. Maybe this is americas future? A life of everyone being "allergic" to gluten. I know Latex allergies are on the rise because of over use, and just look at things like penicillin, was overused in the past, and now many people can't hjandle it.

heh, I just reread the original message and jsut realised that I talked about nothing at all pertaining to it :) oh well.

DOn't feel bad about what you did. I too have done the same thing. When you start feeling good, is when you are in trouble. You start forgetting how bad you actually felt and not having an official diagnoses can make it hard. I am vegetarian and gluten-free and sometimes I get SO hungry, I just want to eat anything, wheat or not. I can completely relate to it making you depressed and weepy. I am the same way after having gluten. I was toying with maybe it being IBS for me and not celiac and my husband said "NO, don't do it!!!". He has seen me on gluten and off and he can tell the difference in me. I know what you are going through, but you will get back on track and realize more strongly then before, that you can't have gluten.

I just laughed outloud at the picture of your cat!! I have seen it before and not payed that much attention to it, but I looked at it closely and I can imagine him drinking and watching football! Is it your cat? Very cute picture.

Hi Liz--so sorry you are not feeling well :( . I would chalk it up to a learning experience. Please don't be too hard on yourself--you'll be back on track in no time. I hear ya about the emotional part of the gluten reaction--people just don't "get it" most of the time. That's the part of it for me that takes the longest to go away. I got sick in mid Dec. and although the physical stuff went away, I'm just now feeling like myself again emotionaly.

      Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
