I stated to feel great about a month into my gluten-free diet, but 2 weeks ago i started getting there awful pains right between my ribcage down to my belly button, the pain will sometimes radiate to the sides of my ribs....I went to see my Dr and even touching that area between my ribs made it hurt. The pain comes and goes now, but still hanging around. He put my on prilosec, but i dont think thats what it is....

They did a full CAT scan of my abs/pelvic area, upper GI series Xrays, and blood tests for my liver functions...everything so far checks out ok....On top of this i lost another few pounds which i cant afford to lose. The only good thing i noticed is that my fingernails grew fast and long and they are not chipping like before, which means something is absorbing. But whats the deal with all this other stuff?!?

I have gotten the same type of pains. However, I have in these two months been accidentally glutened. It could be an accidental glutening or it could be the body continuing to cleanse itself. With many years of gluten in our bodies it could take a fair bit of times to cleanse the body.

I have heard of a lot of people getting better and then worse. I had to cut out dairy - after I ate it, esp. with acidic stuff (anything with both tomatoes and cheese was killer) I would have double over pain. Your description dounds more like an ulcer, but they would have found that in your tests. Did they test for small intestine bacterial overgrowth (h pylori)? Could be that or a problem with a food other than gluten, such as dairy, soy, corn, nightshades, or a number of other suspects.

First if it is heartburn do not take prilosec. Bad stuff. Try deglycerized licorice tablets by Enzamatic therapies. It helped me. Also a teaspoon of applecider vinegar before meals is supposed to help. Usually there is not enough acid rather than too much. Prilosec will only make it worse in the long run. I agree with the above post about ulcer. Gluten intolerance or celiac can set you up for bacterial problems, candida overgrowth and parasites. Good luck.

Well they ruled out the ulcer, nothing in any of my test suggests that i have one...My doc suggested that i stay on prilosec....i personally dont want to, im going to see my GI today too see what he thinks....but all my blood work and tests were ok...so im not sure....??

My doctor told me a good way to test if you have too much or too little acid is to take a tablespoon or two of lemo juice after you get your symptoms. If they get worse, you have too much acid. Better then too little acid. I had too much acid, despite what I have read about some celiacs having too little. The lemon juice gave me a lot more pain and indigestion that what I had before I took it. Now I take a Pepcid AC before acidic meals. Haven't tried Prilosec. I was on Protonix for a while, but insurance gave me trouble, so I gave up.

Any one who knows me, knows the hell I've been through since the beginning of Dec....Started with a bad cold, then horrable acid reflux (still fighting that), and then what they thought was a rectal prolapse...I was sent to a surgeon but the surgeon doesn't think it was a rectal prolapse but instead some sort of disfunction with the muscles in the intestines. I too have the same pain your describing and been sent for more tests/ rushed to hospital in the last 8 weeks more times than I care to account. I've come to the conclusion that doctors have no clue about anything. I think it has a lot to do with the body going into "shock" because after so many years of eating gluten and then BANG this whole food group is gone ! Anyway, I'm just biding my time because the surgeon is refering me to a colonic specialist for even more tests!

Hugs

Bridget

OMG that sounds awful...well the lastest thing with me is the GI that dx with celiac disease, i went to him and he thinks b/c of all the inflamtion i had due to the damage and the irritation, that i could be having spasms. He said usually belly button pain is connecting with ur small intestines....and the stomach pain (which comes and goes, kind of a gnawing thing) could also be due to the same reason. he saw no ulcers/reflux in the CTscan or GI xrays....so he gave me this med called levsin...took it once, seemed to help, but the side effects were god awful for me, i would rather deal with the stomach spasms....

AND im putting 2 and 2 together here, this all started right after i ate McD's french fries, and we all know whats going on with that mess right now. OVer time though it is getting a little better, still hasnt gone away...

Have you had your gall bladder checked? Sometimes they can't see it in regular scans - it is kinda hidden.

Thank you! This is very helpful I’ll start looking over everything and writing down what I may be recent to. I suspect minor gluten or another intolerance. Do you have any advice on how to possibly expedite my healing process? I’ve heard taking different herbs and vitamin supplements but it’s a bit overwhelming for how recent I’ve been trying to keep track of my diet. Doing my best to feel better since I’m heaving so many annoying symptoms 😕

Based on the amount of gluten in typical US diet, our bodies have a really high tolerance for gluten. While it  makes us sick, from inflammation, poor digestion/limited absorption of basic nutrients, & specific vitamin  & mineral deficiencies, it doesn’t kill quickly.  By this time celiac is dx-ed, our immune system are usually over worked & under fed.    Once dx -ed & on GFD, gut starts to heal & immune system function improves both in its ability to find gluten & to response to it. Basically, immune system is on high alert & fully armed so traces of gluten  can set off reactions that are as bad or worse than  those pre-dx.       You’ve reached that point so it’s time to go through products you’re...

Finding a doctor who truly understands celiac disease can be challenging—many still rely on outdated info or dismiss lingering symptoms. Here's what's worked for me and others in the celiac community: 1. Start with a Gastroenterologist (GI) Specializing in Celiac Look for GIs affiliated with celiac research centers (e.g., Columbia University, Mayo Clinic, University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center). Ask if they follow updated guidelines (e.g., repeat endoscopy/biopsy when needed, monitor for refractory celiac, nutrient deficiencies). 2. Leverage Celiac Organizations Celiac Disease Foundation Beyond Celiac Coeliac UK (UK): Healthcare Professional Network 3. Ask...
