Gluten-free Diapers And Wipes

After discovering that paper towels and toilet paper could possibly contain gluten, is it also possible for baby wipes and diapers to contain gluten? If so, does anyone know of any brand that is gluten-free? I'm off to check the websites right now, but I don't even know what ingredients to look for in non-food products. I'm still learning how to read food labels

Thanks in advance for any help/insight on this!

Rebecca

I wouldn't worry about any of the things you just named, including paper towels and toilet paper.

I have never heard of diapers having gluten in them.

Baby wipes have the ingredients on the tub, I haven't found any with gluten yet, and I switch brands often.

The ones I have are just the generic "newborn wipes" from Walgreen's. The tub says hypoallergenic and alcohol free, and the ingredient list looks totally safe.

Thanks for the replies and the piece of mind (and reality check :P )! I'm sure I'm not the only one, but being new to this and being scared for the health risks of untreated celiac disease, I will probablly be a little overprotective with my kids until I'm comfortable with my knowledge of the disease and my ability to detect harmful gluten.

Thanks again!!!!

hey, I have asked some really really dumb questions on here before, your question actually made sense and was something that it made sense to be worried about, don't feel bad. I still don't feel bad when I ask crazy celiac questions, you gotta learn somehow, and where else would I ask? :D

I use Target diapers and we don't have a problem with those. Maddie is allergic to wipes so I make my own. I cut up some soft paper towels. I think they are called Viva or something like that. Then we take a few and mix water and baby oil and pour the mixture over the towels. I only make 1-2 days worth at at time because they will get moldy if they sit for too long. They work great and are cheaper than wipes too. :)

You are doing the right thing by asking questions, and reading all the labels that come into your life. My kids were sensitive to a lot of diapers, for reasons other than gluten. The plastic in the waist band and around the legs caused rashes.

@Peace lily, can you be more specific about which coffee manufacturers have told you that their coffee is probably not safe for celiacs? What you say is contrary to just about everything I find when I research this issue on the internet, even taking into account cross contamination. The exception seems to be when flavorings are added that may contain grain products made from wheat, barley or rye. This individual tested numerous coffees with a Nima gluten sensor and found no issues: https://www.goodforyouglutenfree.com/is-coffee-gluten-free/. There may also be an issue with cross reactivity for some celiacs:  https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/is-coffee-safe-on-a-gluten-free-diet/ . Keep in mind that when you ask questions of food companies concerning whether or not a product is gluten free or "safe for celiacs" you may be getting an ultra-cautious response due to the fact that they are careful to cover their backsides when the product hasn't been specifically tested for gluten content or is not being marketed as such.

I have to agree with you, cross contamination is a big factor for me also I have cealiac and thyroid condition.2 years for me on cealiac. Am I’m still having issues. Went to my gastroenterologist in this past nov. said everything looks good . I am looking into coffee now and what I’ve read cross contamination is possible. I’m stumped. I’m so sick of being sick at times. peace lily🥲

You already got some great recommendations. Just want to second that Mallorca (and Spain in general) is one of the best and easiest places for celiacs to travel. I have been to Mallorca multiple times and have never experienced any cross contaminations and there are SO many easy to buy options in regular supermarkets. Hope you have a wonderful trip.
