hey nyorkers.... any good stuff going on city--exhibits etc? free or cheap stuff? my mom have some shows etc booked, but want some good activity ideas from the locals. we are going at end of month--25-29th.

The Sony Wonder technology lab is pretty cool. It's free, it's designed for kids, BUT there is a ton of interesting history on technology and electronics. My borther and I (31 and 22, respectively) really like it. It's a fun way to spend time. It's in the Sony building, but I don't remember the cross streets.

Staten Island ferry is free and the best way to get good photos of the skyline and the statue of liberty from a distance.

The Central Park Zoo is cheap, and it's my favorite zoo in the whole wide world! They have A LOT of penguins :) (my favorite)

Also in Central Park- Belvedere Castle is pretty cool, and free

Bike rentals in Central Park aren't too expensive.

Even the Met (metropolitain museum of art) isn't very expensive, and you can easily spend your whole day there. A whole week even.

I'll try and think of some other stuff :)

Thanks Chelsea--good ideas. Sony would be fun! I was thinking about the CP zoo too--so you think its pretty good? For about 4 years from HS to college, my mom and I got to go to NYC once a year...but its been 5 or 6 years now since. We have tickets to Wicked, can't wait! My mom just wanted some nice cheaper alternatives too so we weren't spending the dough constantly :)

The Met is where I got engaged :)

So ofcourse I suggest this. LOL!

Check out this site to see if there are any street fairs while you are intown. I love going to street fairs on a lazy Sat. or Sun.

Fudgie! Fudgie! Fudgie!

They look monstrous, but you simply MUST get one while at Risotteria. Worth the trip alone.

I've been to lots of zoos all over the country, including the san diego zoo, but my favorite by far is the Central Park zoo. It's not the biggest zoo, and it's not the most impressive, but it's got so much charm! They have polar bears, a big rainforest building, seals, lots of penguins. I've been there a million times and I never get sick of it.

I got engaged in Central Park, maybe that's why I'm such a fan

Um, beware the carriage rides early in the day...you'll smell like horses all day! :P

DH proposed on a carriage ride at 11am...by 6pm at Tavern on the Green, we were still a bit "horsey"

Totally! But even better if you pry the cookies apart, sprinkle a little salt in, and put them back together and eat it that way.

Get one to go, too! If they have cake when you're there, I'm going to be wicked jealous, though, because they never have when I've been there. The brownies are moister than they look, but as someone somewhere here said, taste a little more like a blondie (ie just not very chocolatey).

And the breadsticks - if you get those to go, you can take them home and have bread and cheese for days (if they go a little tough the next day, stick them in the oven and they crisp right up). The first time I bit into one of those breadsticks, I did a double-take like you wouldn't believe, because I couldn't believe it was really gluten-free and was looking to see if I could see any signage about it. My friend was like "is it awful?" and I was like "nooooo, I just...he did say it was gluten-free, didn't he?"

Anything interesting or good restaurants in Brooklyn? I think we are going to church at Brooklyn Tabernacle on Sunday...

There is a restaurant in downtown Brooklyn called Gage and Tolliver. One of the oldest restaurants in NYC. I have always loved it -- very old school, gas lighting, dishes like Oysters Rockefeller etc. Anyway, it turns out that they are celiac friendly. Check it out!

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
