Need Doc In Tallahassee In Fl - Fast!

My Mother has agreed to get tested for Celiac (yea!) but her pcp wants to send her to a GI for the test. No problem but we want to tell the pcp which doctor to refer her to. Does anyone know of a good GI or any type doctor in Tall. that knows anything about Celaic? I have searched three different forums and nothing is coming up about any doctor in Tall.

Please help if you can....Mother sees the pcp Monday and she needs to be armed with a doctors name/number at her visit. From what I understand it is a joke that if you're ever really sick in Tallhassee, you need to get out of town and probably go to the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville. Thanks in advance for any replies.

floridanative -- How did your mom do at the doctors in Tallahassee? I wish I knew one...

You must have heard the joke/expression if you are from Florida.

Do you know the first place to go when you get sick in FLORIDA?

Just like those silly emails people send.

Too funny!!!!!!! Mother got pcp to run full Celiac panel. Only her tTg came back pos. for Celiac (as mine did) so she opted out having the biopsy since she had way more signs of Celiac than I did and I had pos. biopsy. She has now been on the diet less than two weeks and after thinking it wasn't helping, she finally feels a tiny bit better and is happy to stick to it now. And she also opted not to have the biopsy because I posted on three message boards looking for a good GI in Tall. and everyone came back with the same answer (well no on ansered at all on this board). They all said go to Mayo Clinic in Jack. or go to Atlanta.

That is great. Not that she has celiac disease. But you have answers to your genetic link. And she will get better and better as time passes. Now she will understand what you have been experiencing.

I haven't forgotten you about our brainstorming session thread on our fighting in our big world wide celiac disease battle. I'm forming more thoughts on your/our plan and in a few days I'll be ready to move with you and others that wish to join us full steam ahead.

You bring alot to this form and will be a major asset in our big fight. I can't wait to speak to you.

Hope mom is feeling better with every passing day!

Thank you for the compliment ms_sillyak_screwed. I can not devote any time into helping put together a national protest until summer. My business is slow then and I have more time to allow for non work stuff. I own/run a promotional products company but I have no employees so I have to do everything myself. I also rep. for a friends company in the same business so between the two I keep quite busy. But in summer it's typically slow, not Jan. slow, but since most clients go on vacation in summer, well they can't be calling me really for orders.

I do think getting the corn and/potato growers on board is the best way to go with regards to getting the attention and help we desparately need if we're going to make big changes in our food supply. Wow this is exciting. One person alone can't make that much of a difference in the world...even Oprah admits to not being able to do anything great alone. But together if we really put forth our best efforts - I think we can make a huge difference. It will not be easy or quick. But if we are dilligent, never let up until the work is complete - we can change the health of future generations. What a great feeling that will be!

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
