I'm fairly new to all of this and have been relying heavily on homemade fruit smoothies as both a breakfast beverage and an after-dinner dessert. These have been a lifesaver for me. They are filling, somewhat satisfy the urge for sweet, and seem to be soothing to inflamed and swollen intestines.

I make them with frozen, organic fruits (pineapple, mango, blueberry & banana), some rice or almond milk, and a little frozen juice concentrate. Delicious! But I’m getting bored with them too, as they pretty much seem to taste the same no matter what fruits I use. I wondered if others here liked smoothies and had any good recipes or combination suggestions. (Hopefully without egg, dairy or honey) :)

Try raspberries with almond, rice, or soy milk. Raspberries are very sweet.

1 cup raspberries

1 1/4 cups almond, rice, or soy milk

I like to put soy or rice milk in mine with some stevia, mango and almond butter or tahini....

nut/seed butters are great thickeners and flavour enhancers! Yogurt ( either real or soy is great too!)

add some cinnamon or nutmeg on top!

Vanilla extract also is a nice touch or grated ginger or lemon zest..mmmm

Honey and maple syrup is yummy in shakes!!!

Try coconut milk, frozen pineapple chunks, rice protein powder and stevia or honey. Or, if you can get Knutsen pineapple coconut juice use that with frozen bananas and the protein powder. Yummy!

I willl have to try some of these. I have had a smoothie maker for about a year and I have never taken it out of the box :lol:

It sounds like such a great idea though

Orange Julius

1 ½ c. Orange Juice

½ c. Milk

1 tsp. Vanilla

¼ c. Sugar

1 ½ c. ice

Mix all ingredients together in the blender leaving out the ice. When sugar is dissolved add in ice and blend until frothy. Makes 2 servings.

I made this one for breakfast this morning. It tastes like the orange julius you can get at those shops in the mall. Good stuff!!

I got the idea from top secret recipes, then changed the recipe to suit my own needs/tastes. Like they had a cup of water in their recipe, I put in milk because it added more nutrients. I also didn't add in egg whites because the thought just grossed me out! :lol: I'm one of those people who tweaks recipes to make them what I think sounds good! ha Enjoy.

Wow, these are some good ideas! Thank you! Funny how you get stuck in a rut with the same things. I love raspberries and blackberries, but I'd been staying away from the berries because the seeds spoil it for me. But I guess raspberries don't really have the seed problem, do they?

And I'd fogotten about the whole citrus family because I was staying away from citrus for my food elimination diet, but there is no reason to avoid it any more.

Also, it is nice to know about the rice powder. I didn't know there was rice protein powder. I'd been wanting to do some kind of protein supplement, but didn't know what I could handle. And I never would have thought of adding the nut butters. That might be worth a try.

There are a whole bunch of smoothie recipes out there, but you never know which are really good. Some it seems are there just to make up a recipe. I'd rather hear it like this -- what others actually make and like. Especially those with gluten and other food issues who are being careful about what foods they put into their bodies. Thanks! :)

This one also sounds delicious. I will look for the rice protein powder, and the Knutsens. I'm really glad to know about the rice protein powder, as I'd been looking for something like that.

I've found that one of the tricks to making better smoothies is to use frozen fruit. That way I don't need to add extra ice to water it down with, and that way I also always have fruit on hand. I also always have a use for that last bit of fresh fruit that is getting too mushy to enjoy fresh. Sometimes I will just add it to the smoothie, or, if I don't have time, or there is too much, I will just put it in the freezer and use later.

I will use either fresh or frozen bananas. You can put the bananas right in the freezer, still in the skin. When I'm ready to use one, I will slice in half and only use half. You can either just peel away the skin with a knife, or I've also found you can just run it under hot water and the skin kind of melts. Then just squeeze it and the banana pops out!

I drink smoothies every day for the nutritional benefits. But you've given me some good ideas for variety.

I would have never thought to use nut butters.

I use hemp + flax protein powder too. The hemp took some getting used too because it tastes so strong. I also add 1 tsp of molasses + 1 tsp of honey for nutritional purposes. And just recently, I started adding bee pollen because I heard it was good for people with allergies.

I liked the raspberries, but I have diverticulitus and shouldn't eat them because of the seeds. And citrus is still too harsh on my stomach.

I like my smoothies with Apple Juice, frozen bananas, frozen strawberries and vanilla yogurt (you could probably use a soy yogurt if you like) I also add honey, but you could do without or use any sweetener...

I've also done them with orange juice

sometimes I add frozen blueberries too... I just play around with whatever fruit I have on hand sometimes...

I heard of one the other day where you add peanut butter (or any other nut butter) to the smoothie, and also coconut milk and pineapple juice makes a good combination as well!

Bananas, frozen strawberries, can of pears with juice and a cup of plain yourt. yum!!!

      Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
