I am in Alabama. I have not been diagnosed with celiacs. My brother has responded to a gluten free diet and I am concerned about my symptomatic children and am in the process of having them tested. I spoke to a woman in Montgomery with children with celiacs.

I have a daughter that lives in Montgomery that may have celiacs. Could you recommend a doctor for her to see in that area? She is close to your age , has multiple GI symptoms and terrible swelling. How long have you been diagnosed?

I'm in AL, close to Huntsville. My hubby and I are both 30, with a 3 y/o and a 1y/o. Both kids have celiac and we think that I do. I'm feeling much better gluten-free. Momma Lisa - where are you?

I am in Jasper but will be moving to Huntsville area in late August or Sept. My husband works in Huntsville. Can you tell me if there are any support groups in the area? What about doctors, specifically pediatricians? Currently we are using pediatrician and gastroenterologist in Birmingham.

Hi! Ok, so I don't live in AL, but I'm in north MS....Oxford. I'm a couple of hours from Jasper, and about 4 from Huntsville. Just saying hi....I think y'all are about the closest folks on this forum to where I am. I'm an hour south of Memphis and an hour west of Tupelo.

There aren't any support groups around here that I know of.

Ah! I am FROM Alabama! I lived in Birmingham! And I just got home from a trip there! If I would have seen this post I would have insisted we all get together for dinner! I had a hard time eating out while there because I wanted to go to "southern" places and eat BBQ and they thought I was nuts for not wanting bread! Anyway, hope you find a doc and a support group!

There is a GIG group here that seems really good. I've been to a few meetings, but I'm a bit limited with my daughter's health issues. There is an e-mail Yahoo list you can sign up for ir you want. Just let me know and I'll get the info for you. I LOVE our pediatrician. I'll send you an PM with that info. Don't know if thye'd want their #s on the board or not.

Oh wow! I'm near Huntsville--in Decatur. I was just posting on another thread, whining about needing good doctors.

My daughter (3) got a positive Enterolab test just this week, so I'm brand new at this. My son (15) who has Down syndrome has DH, I am certain--I googled the pics and they look just like his skin. And I'm suspicious that I ought to be tested as well--I'm waiting to see if our insurance will pay for the Enterolab test for my DD.

None of us have started the diet yet, as my head is still spinning and I'm trying to get a handle on it all....

Anyway, I'd love to get info on good doctors in the area--gastroenterologist and dermatologist, especially!

I'm on the opposite end of town near Lacey's Spring. We use Pediatric Gatroenterology in Hville. Dr. Laney is our Dr., but the other is good from what I've heard. I use Dr. Gardepe sp?) for a dermatologist. I've only been once, but she seemed great on the first visit. I think I have DH too. There is a GIG that meets here too. I'll get the info for you. It's not meeting this summer, but will start back in the fall. Let me know if I can be of any help!

Just wanted to let all of you know that the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) in Huntsville has a Yahoo group. It's NorthernAlabamaCeliacs.

If you join the group you'll get reminders about meetings.

the site is Open Original Shared Link

Hope that helps!

Hello from Athens, AL. My story starts as someone who saw gluten free foods and laughed inside saying thank God I don't have to avoid gluten......HA! The laugh was definitely on me.....

I only stumbled on this a yr and 1/2 ago because my husband had really bad dandruff and flaking all over. And I happened to research in a Nutritional healing book what might be causing his issues and why sometimes he would clear up,some and then have really bad weeks.....which lead to avoiding wheat and the book mentioned celiac disease. So I go to read about this and discovered uh oh ....if you have type 1 diabetes you have celiac as well.... So we tested it out.....wow I have energy now and his skin is cleared.... We occasionally get glutened through not reading labels or eating in restaurants you cannot trust.

And I got really excited because about the time we figured this out for both of us we has an earthfare open here in the Huntsville area....whoo hoo.

I have not looked for any support groups since being diagnosed but if someone knows of a group meeting currently I would really be interested!

Jenny

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
