When Will The Doctors Wake Up In The Usa?

The medical community is completely clueless about our problem in the usa, that is absolutely clear. Why? Is it because there is no money in informing the public? Because prescribing drugs of all sorts is much more profitable? I can't think of any reason except ignorance. Sorry if this has been said before many times but maybe it needs to be said over and over again until there is change. To many people our suffering and having their Lives ruined do to the ignorance of the medical community as a whole is just not acceptable. The fact that a loser like myself can figure all this out and the proponderence of the medical community can not is so ridiculous I have no words to express it. What can we do to help the next generation from suffering? How can the ignorance continue at such a obvious level? Doctors as a whole need to WAKE UP now. I'm just a simpleton but I can see it clear as day. There is something horribly wrong with the medical community in the usa. It really is sickening. They just keep pushing their drugs to mask the symptons, I suppose because that is what is profitable. Sickening and pathetic.

Thank God for bright Celiacs like you Karen. I only read the full thread in bits right now but will give it a more clear reading tommorow, but your idea is the one that just might work it seems to me. $ talks and maybe we just must work with that as horrible as that is. It is genius though, really! Maybe this idea is the answer, it very well might be. I love it Bless your heart! Fight fire with fire instead of just ranting and raving and getting upset like I do, You have a solution that could just work. It's all about the $ but maybe we can use that. I'm giddy thinking about it. Brilliant! So Glad I signed back onto this forum tonight. If you have any more great ideas, links to threads here and elsewhere please show me the way. I really HAVE to do something to make a difference, not for me so much but for my niece and other children who should never have to go through what I and so many of you have.

I can't believe I missed this thread. This is an ABSOLUTE FANTASTIC IDEA!! I'm definitely in with this and I also think contacting the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and all the other foundations like scleroderma, ms, fibromyalgia, etc. might help in some way. I will work on that one. Celiac has been linked to so many diseases that the insurance industry has got to wake up since the drs. won't. My DH is an actuary, formerly with a state dept. of ins., and a member of the Society of Actuaries. Perhaps he can help in some way, although he is a life/pension guy, he knows a lot of health actuaries I'm sure. He no longer works for an ins. co. or the state, but has friends who do. This is sooo exciting. My children have suffered enough. If I could help in even a small way to prevent one child from suffering the way my children and I have, I will be happy. I am still so new to this, but I am determined to try to make a difference. Thank you Karen from the bottom of my heart for this idea.

US doctors will catch up with the rest of the world in about 10-15 years. That is the norm for our country.

I hate the thought of the suffering people will have to go through in those next 10-15 years, so many of our relatives for instance. When I try to explain to people about Celiac I tell them in 10 years everyone will know about it and believe that to be true. I really believe 10 years is about 10 years to long though. Change needs to happen now.

we must be pretty lucky---our ped gi seems VERY well informed about celiac, it's complications, and it's actual prevalence.

One industry that depends greatly on the status quo (i.e., untreated celiacs everywhere) is the wheat industry. We are talking a HUGE percentage of our GNP (at least, in Canada) that is generated through the sale of wheat. Our country is covered in it, and if certain citizens wised up to what's at the root of their chronic abdominal pain, exhaustion, D and C, osteoporosis, etc., this industry would take a real hit. I've often wondered whether some docs are getting kickbacks from not just pharmaceutical companies for prescribing their drugs, but also from wheat companies for staying quiet about gluten intolerance! So, along with approaching the big insurance companies on this (which is a GREAT idea), why not address the rice producers? They'd be happy to wake up the world to the evils of gluten!

Wow, that is a point I never considered. It is one of the big ones here, too. It feels a little defeating when you think of the GNP and how much it is tied up in grain production. If all the people that should (most of the population) quit eating gluten, the implications on the economy would be HUGE. But think about this, too-the cost of the illnesses caused by the problem probably far outweighs the potential loss. This is a topic for a huge research project/paper!!! Very good insight elye. :)

Okay, here's my dream for 50 years down the road:

Wheat is not used for human consumption hardly had all anymore. But the GNP does not suffer, because some bright person perfected the scientific technique of turning wheat into fuel which is most envioronmentally friendly. (Thinking dreamily........) "What a perfect win-win situation........."

BAM! Back to reality........ <_<

Yep, I mentioned this very thing on a thread not long ago dealing with gasoline properties. I spend a lot of my free daydreaming time thinking about the ways we could make up for the losses to our economy if (when) the world's gluten-intolerant people get off wheat. Fashioning wheat into a gas is not a big jump, what with corn already being utilized. How do we get the researchers and scientists going on this? I feel so little and powerless, we need someone wiith the right credentials, education, experience and clout to get listened to. And how about the use of wheat for anything and everything that we're not eating? I'd wear a pair of jeans made from wheat, wouldn't you? How about pressing it into paper, take the strain off the lumber industry? Man, the possibilities...

We need a loud voice with a real vested interest...

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
