i was diagnosed with celiac last month and had gone to GI for pinchy feeling near my right side gall bladder area under ribs - prior to seeing the GI i had an ultrasound that showed gallbladder liver and pancreas were all normal and i had a blood test as well which showed all my levels were normal but iron which was slightly low and had been most of my life - is gallbladder dysfunction call for removal?  i am reading blogs where some people are saying that - i don’t want to have to remove it - anything i can do to help it??

MadMom,

The Autoimmune Paleo Diet can help keep your gallbladder healthy.  Make sure you get enough of the eight B vitamins which are water soluble and must be replenished daily.  Think about taking extra vitamin B1, Thiamine, which helps supply your body with energy and enzymes needed for your body to function properly.  Thiamine deficiency has been linked to digestive problems, including malfunctioning gall bladders, called Gastrointestinal Beriberi.

I found some articles.....

"The Little-Known Connection between Leaky Gut, Gluten Intolerance, and Gallbladder Problems"

And....

"Gross and histological changes in the gall-bladder in Beriberi"

And...

"Gastrointestinal beriberi: a forme fruste of Wernicke’s encephalopathy?"

Sorry but in your post you say: "prior to seeing the GI i had an ultrasound that showed gallbladder liver and pancreas were all normal and i had a blood test as well which showed all my levels were normal." I guess I don't understand your post, because you said that your gallbladder is normal. Did the doctor find something that you are not sharing in your post?

no i meant that a week befire diagnosis i was having this pinchy pain under ribs by gallbladder area and thought it was my gallbladder - so i went for ultrasound and all were ok - i’m also in menopause and my hormones can create a spasm in gall bladder area as well part of menopause - but now it’s subsided some - i’m only gluten free a month - dr says takes at least 4-6 months to feel a lot better

Yes, it can take up to two years to recover. Be sure your diet is 100% gluten-free, and this article might be helpful:

Thought was finished with this but a friend just sent email saying she takes Tirosin liquid levothyroxine which has no fillers (mentioned by Pgetha above).  Friend's doc sends script to one of Tirosin's direct-mail pharmacies.  Looking that up, government insurance (Medicare/Medicaid) doesn't cover (as Pgetha wrote above).  But if use one of their direct-mail places three month supply is $57/month.  Researching that, happened to learn Yaral also makes a generic gluten-free levothyroxine.

Lysine is helpful for "cold sores" (oral herpes).

As a life.long celiac, I understand this.  I simply ask that the medical profession stop disregarding the fact that it should remain a concern for some. It cost me a lot of medical discomforts.

@dmallbee, about 8% of celiacs react to the oat protein avenin like they do to the wheat protein gluten. In addition, there are some cultivars of oats that apparently do actually contain gluten.
