How a Thiamine Deficiency can lead to abnormal electrolytes levels triggering Refeeding Syndrome

To Wheatwacked and To Whom Ever Might Read This,

This is mainly for @Wheatwacked but @knitty kitty might also like this thread...

I recently came across this research that shows Refeeding Syndrome being treated with Thiamine......responds to Thiamine replacement therapy even when Refeeding Syndrome aka RFS does not respond to Potassium supplementation.

This confirms my earlier analysis of how Refeeding Syndrome in Celiacs can be a sign of a Thiamine deficiency.

It should also be noted treatment of Refeeding Syndrome can also be treated with Magnesium......taking either Magnesium or Thiamine has been shown to help Refeeding Syndrome.

Here is my earlier Posterboy blog post on this topic that explains how and why Refeeding Syndrome can happen in Celiacs...

Should this  happen to you.....you usually are diagnosed as being in a "Celiac Crisis" but really you have developed Refeeding Syndrome and it can treated with either Magnesium or Thiamine supplementation.

Here is a recent article about it...

Entitled "Refeeding syndrome in adults with celiac crisis: a case report"

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29382373/

Here is another article about it....where thiamine replacement therapy treated an electrolyte in-balance treating Refeeding Syndrome aka RFS.

Entitled "Acute thiamine deficiency and refeeding syndrome:........"

Which is to say Wheatwacked taking Benfotiamine or another Fat Soluble B-1 like Allithiamine or Lipothiamine should help  your remaining electrolyte issues....

Here is a nice article explaining the main Fat Soluble Thiamine aka Vitamin B1 supplements and how they can help you.

I hope this is helpful but it is not medical advice.

So, on Sunday an opportinity presented itself and I gave in to a craving for pizza. The last time, I glutened myself on two different occasions (2 Kaiser rolls) my response was itchy puffy eyes with post nasal drip; this time it was significantly increased blood pressure instead that lasted until Tuesday. Tuesday at 3pm it was still high 175/85. I took 10 ml cod liver oil and at 3:45 pm it was 137/78. (Sys, Disastolic, Pulse). Regarding refeeding: I recently increased mag citrate from 2 to 3 ounces (870 mg magnesium) for foot cramps.

So you ate regular gluten-containing pizza? If so, I'm just curious why you would do that? There are lots of gluten-free choices out there, even one that contains wheat starch and tastes like real pizza:

No real good reason, I even have a gluten-free pizza in my freezer. I do not make a habit of it, but from time to time maybe once a year, I need to validate that my obsession with vitamins and minerals is actually healing my body. There is no way I would ever revert. I know too well. In my warped mind I think of it as the annual President Kennedy's Physical Challange for my immune system.😃

I have a very timid tummy after 13 years of strict gluten free.  If I try to eat like my pals, I burn.

I particularly try to get lots of red meat, mostly beef.  I'm slightly anemic, which isn't uncommon in celiacs.  Red meat is healthy for us and the environment.

I had lyme disease for about 14 years and was also diagnosed with celiac disease about midway through.  I had bad leaky gut food and chemical sensitivity like crazy dental issues I had to go on a really strict diet for 4 years to heal my gut and see a lyme Dr to heal the lyme disease  Both sides of my family are celiac
