For UK Coeliacs: Is your supermarket reducing its gluten-free offer?

If you are from the UK and reading this, I wondered if you have noticed a reduction in your local supermarket's gluten-free offer?

The other day I sent my daughter to our local convenience store to buy something for me.  It is a small branch of one of the major supermarkets and normally dedicates the end of an aisle to a small range of gluten-free essentials.  But she returned empty-handed because the gluten-free shelves had completely disappeared.   Last week I went into a large branch of the same supermarket  in our local city,  and whilst their bread, cakes, biscuits, pasta and flour aisle was still excellent, the Free From freezer section had some gluten free profiteroles but the rest of it had been replaced with Vegan food - all very nice, but not gluten free.

I haven't had a chance to speak to either store's management yet and by the time I go back in it might have been sorted.  It could just be a supply chain thing, but looking at the internet it seems I'm not the only one who is noticing this. Has anyone reading this noticed any changes at their supermarket?  I have a theory that perhaps as the plant-based food market is expanding, it might be at a cost to our own gluten-free market.

This is article dates from 2021, but it mirrors my experience last week.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
