test results

Hello all! My 2 year old is getting an endoscopy on Tuesday to biopsy for celiac but I'm curious about his lab results because the doctor said they aren't as accurate.

Anti-deamidated Gliadin Peptide, IgA = 27.2 RLU..... reference <20.0 RLU

All other labs normal (ttg's, IgG, Anti-Endomysial igA)

His igA Quantitative was normal but in the higher end. It was 88, normal is up to 100.

I can't find any research where this is the result and whether it really means anything. Has anyone else had a similar result to this and biopsy was positive?

Welcome to the forum, SarahMW!

It is an established fact that antibody testing is not reliable for children that young. Their immune systems are very immature and just do not respond the same as an adult's would. With children we also have the testing anomaly where the biopsy is negative but the antibodies are positive. Just wanted  to mention that so you will be prepared in case the endoscopy/biopsy is negative. Their bodies repair damage so fast.

What kind of symptoms does your toddler have? Have you noticed a connection between these symptoms and when he/she has recently eaten wheat?

He has poor growth, diarrhea for the first 2 years of his life, now very very constipated even with miralax, stomach distention. I don't see anything in particular after he eats gluten but he eats gluten daily with nearly every meal so it would be hard to see the difference.

Constipation is very common in children with celiac disease. The other thing you might consider, especially if the biopsy is negative, is genetic testing to see if he has the genetic potential for celiac disease.

Congrats! Can you share the recipe? We just picked up a bread maker from an estate sale and are experimenting.
