Xanthan Gum Substitute

I read somewhere that unflavored gelatin can be used in place of xanthan gum. Has anyone tried this and what are the ratios of replacement? Thanks!

I'm pretty new to this whole gluten-free baking but everything I've read is that the xanthan gum is essential to it. I do have a few recipes that have the gelatin in it also. Sorry I'm not much more help.

My mom adds unflavored gelatin in addition to the xantham gum, and she makes the most "breadlike" bread I've had yet. She uses betty hagman's recipe and adds gelatin, not sure on quantities, she doesn't really measure. The gelatin helps it be more springy.

Agreed, the best bread recipes I've tried have both xanthan gum and gelatin, but I haven't seen any with just gelatin. You can also substitute guar gum for the xanthan, and I think there are one or two other alternatives. Xanthan gum is shockingly expensive when you first buy it, but if you're going to bake a lot it's worth it.

Thanks, maybe it was the combination that I was thinking of. Oh, must have been another of my brain fog moments.

Where does one find unflavored gelatin? I can't find it anywhere? Do they have it at WalMart or Kroger?

In all of my grocery stores, it's near the jello. Little box like them labelled Knox Unflavored Gelatin.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
