I have been watching everything I eat but for the pat three days I have had stomach cramps, diarrhea and severe gas. Right before I was diagnosed with Celiac I was always constipated. Anyone know what I can do for the gas and bloating?

I use Pepto Bismal Caplets. I hope this helps.

Hi David!

You just described what I live with every day!

What I find out works best for me is Gax-X Tablets (softgels are okay, chewables contain gluten!) and sometimes Pepto Bismol helps me too. The thing that REALLY helps me though is doing postural positioning. I lay down on the floor, lay on one side for 5 minutes, then tummy for 5 minutes and then the other side for 5 minutes. It's hilarious to listen to my stomach and hear the thunderstorm sounds coming from it as the gas works it way down through my intestines...... It really works wonders for me though. Just make sure you have a clear path to the bathroom when it finally works its way down!

Good Luck!

Karen

Sorry, I think I got you mixed up with another poster.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.

I tend to agree with RMJ. Your doc took the reasonable and practical approach to diagnosis. All things considered, it was the right way to go. However, if you have first degree relatives that show signs of possible celiac disease, urge them to get formally tested before they start the gluten free diet.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.
