Has anyone eaten at Mama's Italian Restaurant in Oakdale, NY? Am thinking about making the long drive this weekend (1 1/2 hr.) and want some info first. Any recommendations on what's good?

I personally have not eaten there because there is so much I can't have anymore. My support group goest there all the time and they say it's excellent. It is maybe 3 miles from where I live--I wish I could eat just anywhere. Deb

YES, and it is completely worth the 1 1/2 drive!!!! Where do you live? It also takes me about an 1 1/2 to get there. I'm in Westchester. I've gone twice now. Love it!!!! John is the owner and is so incredibly nice. Last time we went he was busy so I didn't want to bother him, but the first time we went I went up to him when we were done and thanked him for having the gluten-free menu and told him how incredible the food was. He was so greatful to hear that and gave me this delicious cheesy roll he was experimenting on making.

If I lived closer I'd go every day!

      Shingles - Could It Be Related to Gluten/ Celiac

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

      Oh my......will the danger never end? It has seemed like no matter what we do or have done the odds were/are against us. Next they'll tell us that just looking at wheat will be dangerous. Oh well....hang in there.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
