Going Out For My Birthday, First Time Since Dx

SO Ive been gluten-free for almost 7 months, feeling sooo much better. I went to a wedding this past weekend and I actually ate, we contacted the hotel manager at the Hilton which worked out great, they knew exactly what to do.

So this is giving me a little bit of courage to go out and venture back into the world of restaurants for my bday. My bf wants to take me out, and he doesnt mind where. Im kinda in between of where i should go. I live near boston, ma so the list is endless.

I have it narrowed down to PF Changs, Flemings, and possibly Capital Grill.

Anyone have a preference? Where have u been successful at?

I vote PF Changs, because I LOVE their lettuce wraps! ;-)

We went to Skipjacks in Boston recently and had a wonderful experience. They don't have a gluten free menu but they will accommodate just about anything that you pick from the regular menu. They were able to make meals that were gluten free and dairy free. They even made a special dessert just for my daughter since there wasn't anything on the menu that she could have. I spoke to the manager when we got there (her name was Sue) and our waiter was wonderful. The food was fantastic - I would definitely recommend it!

I have eaten at all three places since diagnosis. Three times at Capital Grille, once at Flemings, and several times at PF Changs. I ate problem free at both Capital and Flemings. I have gotten sick at PF's a few times though. It is just always so busy there, that I think it can cause some complications. At PF's a server usually brings out your food and not your actual waitor. AT least that has been the case in my experience. So I am usually weary that the server is bringing me the right meal. That being said, I have also eaten there several times without getting sick. I absolutely love Flemings and Capital Grille..but those are very expensive and not places I would eat frequently. For your b-day though I think that it would be great to splurge....

What type of food are you in the mood for? If a yummy steak, then I would go with Flemings or Capital Grille....just my opinion! :)

I can always eat steak, and my bf loves it too. I was leaning more towards Capital Grill, the money is no big deal, cause hes paying anyways, and they way i look at it, i havent gone out to eat in 7 months, i deserve an expensive place...lol

How about Legal Sea Foods? They now have a gluten-free menu. Haven't experienced it yet post DX but I know they were good prior.

i like legal, but i dont love it, not a huge seafood person, ill eat it if its around... :rolleyes:

I think you'd be totally safe at any of them. Since it's your birthday dinner though, I vote for Capital Grill. Splurge a little :)

I never had a problem at Outback Steakhouse.....they have a nice selection: chicken, fish, shrimp, steak and ribs,,,,plus desserts...the service is really nice and accomadating

Not sure if you were aware that Flemings is owned by the same company as PF Changs and if you go on their website they have a gluten-free section.

Just an FYI..they have yummy steak too!

I didn't know they own PF Changs, but Fleming's does own Outback.

Where near Boston? I grew up in Newton, Mass and two weeks ago I went home to visit my mom. We were going to out to Legal's but my mom felt a bit too tired to go that far so she got on the phone with a restaurant down the street and asked them about Celiac/Gluten-free menu options. As soon as she said "Celiac" they cut her off and said, "oh yeah, we get a lot of celiacs and we can accommodate you, just tell the waitress what you need." The place is called Ariadne's -- there's one in Cambridge too -- and everything was delicious and the staff was totally cool about everything. I highly recommend....

really im right on the border of newton, wheres the restaurant u went too? street wise? i grew up there too...small world. i really like the capital grill in chestnut hill too, and they emailed me a gluten-free menu.

      Blood Test for Celiac wheat type matters?

      I'm not saying that some celiacs won't need it, but it should be done under a doctor's supervision because it can cause lots of problems in some people.

      I also noticed I get debilitating migraines when I smell gluten, wheat and its not taken seriously when it affects one in every way.Im still begging to properly be heard.I also noticed tolerance level is down the drain with age and life changes. I have been told by incompetent medical that im not celiac or that sensitive. Diagnosed in 1994 by gi biopsy gluten...

      Hello, just popped in my head to ask this question about medications and celiac? Any ways it amps me up not able to sleep, though very tired.However I did notice it helped with my bloating sibo belly.I hate that my body is that sensitive and medical doesn't seem to take seriously. Im STILL healing with my skin, eye, and now ms or meningioma ( will know in April  which)and dealing with this limbo nightmare. I did write my name, address ect on the reclamation but im not tech savvy and not sure if went through properly. I called my city representative in Stanislaus County and asked if theres a physical paper i can sign for proclamation for celiac and she had no clue about what I was saying, so I just said I'll go back on website.
