Dumb Family, Doctor Gone...

*sighs grumpy sighs*.

Some of my family just never learns, and never cares!

I went over to my auntie and uncle's place today, and me and my Baba made some gluten-free pyrogies, so I was there all afternoon.

As soon as I got there I showed Auntie my marks from college, and she said they were good, but jumped straight to giving me a huge lecture about how I should be working. She pretty much said that my stomach is do excuse, and scoffed at me because I said I'm trying to run around with doctors. She doesnt even believe that I have anything wrong with me, that I dont need to be talking to specialists or nothing, I should be getting a summer job instead.

And then before we started the pyrogies I was wiping the cupboard, and seriously, 3 times today she actually MADE FUN OF ME because mom told her the one time I got sick from some bread comes coming in contact with me food. Not just joke about it, MADE FUN OF. She said "oh dont worry, these are just mushrooms, they are breadcrumbs, they wont kill you" in such a sarcastic voice.

GAH!!!

OH and I found out today that my family doctor has left town for good...I'm completely screwed now. I'm not kidding you. Since he was the one who referred me to the specialist, he was the only one who could send more letters (I tried to get other docs to do it before). I had gone in there before asking about the letters and none of the other docs knew anything about it...When I talked to that government Representative, she wrote down he was my doctor (because she need to discuss with who referred me)...now I dont know WHAT I WILL DO!

*hugs*

I'm sorry. Please ignore your annoying family members. They sound ignorant, and just because they are family does NOT mean that they are right. (You know that, of course!)

As for doctors, maybe you'll get lucky, though you might need to drive a bit farther. :-( I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Sorry to hear about your doc leaving, its hard to find one that really understands. And for your Auntie, she should feel awful about her actions. You should have said to her " Dear auntie, do you truly love me? If so then I do have an illness that makes me very sick. I know you may not understand it fully but please try to understand that I do know what will happen if I get glutened. You wouldn't want to be the one who causes me pain now would you!!" Maybe a guilt trip might soften her thought process a bit.

Now to the best part of your story!!!!!!! Can you please please send me your recipe for pierogi's. My family is wanting them sooooo bad.....And we will love you forever.............

If you are willing to share the recipe please pm to me.

I'm sorry you had this happen. I was worried my family would do that too, but so far they have been accomodating.... give it a few months and I may be in your shoes.

Now, what I want to know is about a gluten free pierogies recipe! My daughter is Russian, and I have a box of gluten filled ones in my freezer. I'd love to be able to make them where I could eat them, or even make pelmeni with it. Can you pass it on?

Honestly, if I had a recipe for the pyrogies, I'd give you them. Someone here in Saskatchewan (the company is called KayBee) makes a pre-mix for them, so I just buy those premixes and add eggs/oil/water to make a cup of liquid to each packag,e and then make them like you would normal pyrogies..

Wish I could help you more with that!

So that Client Representative called me this morning.

She talked to the receptionist of the GIs office, and they HAVE looked at my files there.

She said the problem is, my referral letters are not specific enough to give the GI reason to see me sooner.

I told her that the blood didnt start until after the last letter was already sent.

I explained that my family doctor who referred me in the first place is gone for good...

Her suggestion is have the ultrasound (next week), and when the results come back go and see my other family doctor, get HIM to send another letter to the GI or actually phone the GI to discuss my results and explain how I am getting worse and include the fact about blood.

She said I could always call her again if I have anymore questions...

Theres my update!

Oh Lisa, I am sorry you are still having such a hard time with this and getting the run around from Dr.s, hopefully you can persuade whoever needs to be persuaded to get you the care that you need. I'm so sorry about your auntie's insensitive comments, believe me, I get them from my family all the time. EVEN THOUGH they can see the obvious improvements in my health off of gluten. I have aunts and uncles and even my mom, sister, cousins, and nieces and nephews that I am convinced all have problems with gluten, but they don't take me seriously. My sister tries really hard to make gluten-free things for me and my daughter, but inevitably she conveniently forgets to check one critical ingredient and thinks it won't matter. (It usually does matter)... oh well. All I can offer you is cyber {{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}} and hope that this gets better for you.

Thanks Lisa & gabby & Patti for helping me !!!!!!

To Lisa:

I heard back from KayBee and they do ship to the USA so I,m almost ready to order. Do you use any other mixes from them and how are they? I don't know if the other stuff is good or not so your input would be appreciated. It's ten bucks to ship so I might as well get other stuff to if it is good....

thanks all

Here you go, Rachel.

Lisa, I am awfully sorry for your troubles with your family and doctors. But it looks like at least your doctor trouble can be solved now, and that is good. Fortunately, my family is not too bad, and especially extended families, like aunts and cousins etc. are really good about my celiac disease. But I know it must hurt, when your aunt is so insensitive.

Pierogi's can be of polish, russian, ukranian origins plus there are probably others too. They are a dough that has a potato, cheese, onion, or sauerkraut filling in them , the dough is a circle shape and once filled it is folded over to make a half moon shape and the ends sealed.they can be boiled or fried and I serve mine with grilled onions and sour cream.some people also filled them with a prune mixture. thay can often be found at ethnic festivals doing the summer months.

hope you get to taste some one day......

Those sound really "yummy".

I hope I get well enough to try them someday.

Thanks for the explanation. :)

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/

Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!
