My son does not react to either that OJ or those hotdogs. Not tried that dressing though. YOu sures a gluten response, and are you sure that you avioded all other sourcse?

i meen i have only been "celiac" for like 2 weeks so im not really sure of anything it feels like agluten response like groubles that burn then make noise thruout my stomic and i got massive brain fog today. Im sure it was one of those 3 just because everything else i ate was normal for me .

hormel sizzler sausage, salad, more salad- consists of lettece, carrots and cucumbers, wendys chili

and kettle chips- lightly salted and today sea salt and vinager- but i know its not the chips i eat like a bag and a half a day

A few things...1st, 2 weeks is hardly anytime for being gluten-free and noticing a difference. Your body may still be 'working things out.' Also--it is not uncommon for Celiacs to miss certain forms of gluten when they are first on the diet, so you may need to revisit what is safe and what isn't. Are you sure you can tolerate sausage and chili--spices, tomatoes or beans? Also, kettle chips (Kettle brand, correct?) do not guarantee their chips are gluten-free--even if gluten is not in the ingredients due to cross contamination. Most companies will use that same CYA, but Kettle's response seemed more shady to me than most others when I checked, so I stopped eating their products. Salt and vinegar chips can be irritating to the stomach too--esp a bag and a half a day. This may not be a gluten issue--you just may need more time on the diet and/or need to revamp your diet a bit...make sure you can tolerate the foods you are eating. Hope you feel better!

oh jeez i thought i could trust good old kettle, what do you recommend. I remember reading lays but what flavors?

Guest Viola

I find that apple juice is very hard on a healing digestive system. Although I can drink it now, it still gives me problems now and then. Maybe try and find something with a little less acid content.

It does take quite awhile to heal your body, and you may still be getting traces of gluten through cross contamination. But also realize that a few foods are normally hard to digest and as you are not healed yet, they will cause some similiar problems.

Lay's Stax are gluten-free and made on gluten-free lines. They are similar to pringles and have lots of flavors. Ck out their gluten-free list here: Open Original Shared Link

The best chips of all though--to me :) Are Lundberg Rice chips--ever seen them in store? They regular ones are great with salsa-yum! And the Pico de Gallo taste like doritos--my husband even loves them :)Open Original Shared Link

I know there are some other safe chips, but those are the only ones I eat...so maybe some else will have some thoughts ;)

OH! PS--Good news for you--the Stacks come in a Salt and Vinegar flavor too! :P

Jen, so the Lundberg Rice Chips are good? I've seen them, but am having "chip issues" myself lately <_< and wasn't sure. Thanks! :)

OH YES! Just be warned...don't try them unless you want to be whipped by the chips :P The plain are my favs for salsa--so good! But like I said, the Pico de Gallo is good too--little spicy. Dh and friends really like them too--they are chips I always use for parties/salsa etc...b/c I can't tolerate the ones made just from corn. You should try them friend !

Several people here have mentioned feeling sick after kettle chips. I for one avoid them, because I felt sick several times after eating them.

Wendy's chili, I don't eat, but eating out can be risky. I wonder if anyone else has had a problem with their chili. THere may not be. I am just trying to come up with something for you. HOpe you feel better.

i thought everyone said stax make them sick?? well i guess i will pick some up when i get down to the store today

the chili i think does not bug me ever i have had it alot and felt fine most days and im really not feeling that bad today i think it was a mix of having to get up at 4 am for work and not getten a chance to eat any real food until 9:30am

im not like in pain from anything but i get these really really loud groumbls that come from like right below my heart it sounds like dripping or something and then in my lower left side. dont really know whats going on just figured maybe i got glutened im stil lreally new all of my bodys feelings have changed like when i have to use the restroom its a completly diffrent feeling then it was a month before i got sick. as for my head fog its almost cleared up today going in and out a big but im not feeling to bad, so i guess maybe i was not glutened could be i just ate something i was not ready for yet

i have only been gluten free for about 2 weeks with atleast 3 or 4 mistakes already. and i have been eating a cup of chili everyday for three days now so thats probably not helping its just so darn good and fast. how would you guys explain a gluten attack so i know when its happening to me?? anyone have the sea salt stacks? how did they make u feel.

as for those rice chips, yeah when i first got told i may have celiac and to eat gluten free i went to the co-op ( god i hate them there) anyways and that was the chips i found there those are really really good but there expensive

Oh those rice chips are soooo good. We can't keep them in the house.

I've not had a problem with Wendy's chili. Frito Lay had a pretty extensive list of safe (gluten-free) products on their website. I read in someone else's posts that sausage can be a culprit because the spices can contain gluten and still be listed as "spices" or "natural flavors." I've also read that the guten reaction can be delayed up to 30 days, so it may still be your body trying to detox and not anything in particular from today.

Hi Colleen Are you supplementing B12/having injections? I have learned recently that sometimes when you start addressing a B12 deficiency, it can temporarily make your symptoms worse.  But it is important not to stop the treatment.  Regarding your problems with anxiety, again that is another symptom of a B12 deficiency.   I didn't know what anxiety was until it hit me like a train several months before gastrointestinal issues began, so I can certainly relate.   Two books which helped me hugely were At Last A Life by Paul David (there is a website you can look up) and The Depression Cure: The Six-Step Programme to Beat Depression Without Drugs by Dr Steve Llardi.  Although his book is aimed at people who have depression, following the principals he sets out was so helpful in lessening my anxiety.  Llardi suggests we need to focus on getting enough: - physical exercise - omega-3 fatty acids - natural sunlight exposure - restorative sleep - social connectedness - meaningful, engaging activity   ... and we should feel a lot better. That is not to stay you must stop taking medication for depression or anxiety if you have been prescribed it, but adopting the changes Dr Llardi sets out in the book should really help. Can I just ask two more questions:  1) you say that you are B12 deficient, did they test your iron levels too?  If not, you really ought to be checked for deficiency and, 2) did they check your thyroid function, as an overactive thyroid can be cause rapid heartbeat and a lot of coeliacs have thyroid issues? Hello still dancing around my celiac disease and not getting medically backed up considering Ive been glutenfree since 1994.All my ailments are the core issue of my ghost disease aka celiac disease. Im angery because the "celiac specialist " basically lightly dismissed me.Im extremely angery and fighting for a new primary care physician which is hard to do in Northern Cali.So currently without and looking.Im angery that its lightly taken when its extremely serious to the one who has it.My only evidence is a brochure back in the days when I got news letters when I lived at my parents. It was published in 1998.I was diagnosed before any foods eliminated from my diet. Angery doctors don't take seriously when Im clearly speaking.I did write to the medicine of congress and have case number.

I totally get this. It's absolutely a grieving process, and it's okay to feel gutted about the loss of those simple joys, especially at 18. Your feelings are completely valid—it's not about being ungrateful for your amazing boyfriend, it's about mourning the life you thought you'd have. That "tortured by the smell" feeling is so real. It does get easier, I promise, but it's okay to sit in the sadness and just vent about how much it stings right now. Thanks for sharing that. Celiac.com has published a book on our site by Jean Duane PhD called Gluten-Centric Culture, which covers many of the social aspects of having celiac disease: This chapter in particular covers issues around eating with family and others - Gluten-Centric Culture: Chapter 5 - Grabbing A Bite Together:

Many of us with celiac find that the fillers in medications can cause a reaction, and sometimes our bodies just process things weirdly. That "rebound muscle pain" and "burning feet" you described sounds awful and is a huge red flag. It's frustrating enough managing the diet without medication causing setbacks. So sorry you're dealing with this, but you're definitely on the right track by connecting the dots. You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

It's so tough when you're doing everything right and still get hit with it. I'm glad you're figuring out a system that works for you—the peppermint tea and rehydration powders are smart moves. It sounds like you've really learned to listen to your body, and that's half the battle. Sticking to simple, safe food at home is the best way to build yourself back up. It's great you can take the time to rest properly. Thanks for sharing what works; it's a big help to others figuring this out too. This article, and the comments below it, may be helpful:
