I went with a Celiac group to their Atlanta location the other night and we had a fabulous time.

They have a gluten-free menu and about 15 of us went. Our waitress was more than helpful with what we could and couldn't have.

My Brother, and Mother (both Celiacs, too), and my brothers friend, Jason, were there, too. My Brother and Jason both had gluten-free steaks and french fries. My Mother and I both had gluten-free salads and french fries. Their Island Dressing and House Balsamic Vinegarette is the best! We enjoyed our food, the people around us, and the whole restaurant.

Everyone should try this place!

I love that place!!! I love the tropical salad, I just wish I could have the fried plantain bananas. I've always been there with a non-celiac group (my husband and six kids), so have never done anything but order off the gluten-free menu; I had questions I wanted to ask. My question has been, why are their fries gluten-free, but not the fried plantains or the fried sweet potato chips? Is it the seasoning they add afterward? I have been afraid to order the fries because of this and was very disappointed to not be able to have the other two items. Overall, I love the place!!! Great music, great food, fun atmosphere, great mojitos!

I live up north, but I saw that you have a big celiac group in Duluth ... I have LOTS of friends in Duluth and go there at least once per year. I will contact your group next time I'm there to get some ideas for eating out!! I wish we could live there, but we're pretty tied to the family business here. <_<

BTW, they are owned by Outback, at least that's what our waitress at Outback told me!

I wondered the same thing and just figured they bought those chips and didn't make them fresh. Our group leader spoke with them specifically on the french fries question to make sure that we would be safe. I even took an order home to eat!

I live north of Atlanta and it usually takes me (and whoever is with me) about an hour to get to most of the restaurants with that group. It's not bad though because it's just once a month. Where exactly do you live?

Actually, I live in Ohio ... I have friends in Duluth, Cummings, and Buckhead. I have wanted to move down there for several years, but with a big family, the big paycheck at the family business is too critical!! :P

When I'm there, I usually spend some time in the Johns' Creek area ... at least for my morning coffee at Starbucks. I've eaten in Alpharetta at both PF Changs and The Cheesecake Factory. The Cheesecake Factory really took good care of me. They panfried some salmon. I ordered it blackened, but it came to me buttered because they could not verify the seasoning was gluten-free. I was impressed. If I was going to fall off my barstool, they were making sure it was going to be from the mojitos, not the fish! :lol:

Oh, thank you for the answer on the fries. You may be right about the chips and plantains. Or else maybe they add seasoning after frying.

I LOVE Cheeseburger in Paradise and have eaten there twice now since I have been gluten-free. The house dressing is amazing...great salad! I love their fries (and fries in general) and burgers. They have been very helpful both times I have eaten there and I haven't gotten sick. They told me both times that their fries are made in a dedicated fryer. I have them leave the seasoning off and just add salt & pepper.

I wondered about their fries - their Web site says they use canola oil, which I can have, but I didn't know about the dedicated frier and I haven't called yet.

If yes, I need to make a trip - they just added on in Bloomington, IN last year and I haven't tried yet.

ahh i wish i had known about this paradise! i just discoverd there's one in Middleton, WI - right by Madison where i went to school last year!! oh well i'll have to go back sometime :)

It's the Bloomington, IN one that I've been to. If you're there without kids, you can eat at the bar and skip the wait!

I live in Mason, OH between Cincinnati and Dayton. It's generally considered a suburb of Cincinnati.

I grew up in Dayton...specifically Beavercreek...3 cheers for Ohio!

My mom recently told me that she contacted Montgomery Inn and they told her the BBQ sauce was gluten-free...

If this pans out, I will make her take me to Montgomery Inn 5 times when I am back :) They have the best ribs on the planet (at least that I have tried)...

I also had good luck at Mitchell's Fish Market in Florence/Covington area (next to the aquarium place -- weird, I know -- why do they put an aquarium next to a Seafood place -- probably freaks the kids out, but oh well)

Good old Ohio...I still miss Skyline Chili, White Castle Sliders, La Rosa's Pizza and Bob Evans (even if I can't have any of them anymore....sigh)

Montgomery Inn was one of the first things I had when I went gluten-free. I usually buy it at Kroger or Meijer and make ribs or chicken at home with it! YUM!! We have a Mitchell's Fish Market about 5 miles from our house, I have yet to try it since going gluten-free.

I do miss eating at Bob Evans...used to LOVE the blueberry pancakes!! I stick with First Watch now, they have a gluten-free menu. :)

I lived in Centerville about 10 years ago for a few months when I was prego with DS! Small world!

I didn't realize that Skyline was gluten-free! I love fries and will have to try theirs! :) There is one right up the street from me! Thanks for sharing that!

We just went to Cheeseburger for my daughter's graduation dinner. It was wonderful! I had the bacon cheeseburger and french fries. I usually don't like ordering a cheeseburger with no bun because it looks like it's missing something, but mine actually had a better presentation than my husband's with the bun! Same stuff, it was just the way they put it on the plate. I had fries, too (the one in Bloomington, IN does have a dedicated fryer).

I asked about the plantains and the sweet potato chips. The cook those in the "other" fryer where they also cook the nuggets, etc., which is why we can't have those.

I ate at the Paradise by me yesterday and it was AWESOME!! I had the strip steak salad. Sooo good! The management company that owns them also own Outback Steakhouse, Carrabas Grill, PF Chang's, and Bonefish Grill, so all of those chains have good gluten free menus and trained, helpful staff. The Paradise near me is actually a Bonefish Grill in the back half of the building, so I ran there and grabbed a copy of their gluten-free menu while we waited for our food. They have a creme brulee! I can't wait to go!

This is the reply I got, within 24 hours, in reference to a question I had for them on other problems foods - soy and corn - in their seasoning mix (I also complimented them in the same note):

Thank you for your interest in Cheeseburger In Paradise. In regards to

your question, some of our seasonings contain a small trace of soy oil

as a binding agent. Fry seasoning has this oil. It would be safer to

order without seasoning. Since all of our menu items are prepared

fresh, daily, we will be able to assist you in your dietary needs.

By the way, I ordered all my food without seasoning and had a great meal and didn't get sick. They also have corn syrup-free margarita mix!

Actually - PF Changs is no longer a part of the OSI companies....but they still have a great gluten-free menu (ate there yesterday! yummy)!!

For some reason there is not a Bonefish Grill in Atlanta. We were in FL last weekend and I saw one about a mile from my parents house. We were going to go to Carabba's for dinner one night but I switched to Bonefish Grill since I wanted to try a new place. I had mahi mahi with lemon butter sauce, mashed potatoes and a salad. Forgot what appetizer we had but we did have the creme brulee for dessert and it was out of this world good! The manager came over to inquire how everything was and I asked him why there wasn't a Bonefish in Atlanta. He said they have been looking for a space there for over a year....so maybe one day soon we'll have another yummy place with a gluten-free menu here in town. He mentioned they were looking in Alpharetta among other places.

      Hello, @Jane02, I take Naturewise D 3. It contains olive oil. Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets. Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking. Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the...

      I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.

The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

      Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
