hally to everybody!!Excuse me for my english and for the mistakes in this topic! I'm a italian boy(26 years old) that from 7 years fights with the IBS(Irritable bowel syndrome ),with the classical symptoms (abdominal pain, diarrhoea, fatigue, headache, dermatit ecc). I made all the possible exams(gastroscopy, colonscopy, blood exam, but there was nothing) . I made also the classical blood tests for celiac(also HLA genetic test) but thay was negative (and gastroscopy, the villi was good) . I read in this days that it's possible that the peaple has a sort of "Gluten Sensitivity" (you can see Open Original Shared Link ) with negative blood tests and gastroscopy. my question are:

1)Is it possible to have this sensibility also with negative HLA test?(I write my tests at the end of this massege)

2)What do you think of stool tests of dottor Fine? ( www.enterolab.com ). are they good? did someone make this tests?was everybody positive or someone was negative? did you make only test for celiac or also the ther test?

thank you to everybody

genetic test:

Yes it is possible to be gluten INtolerant and have all tests come back negative. We do not know all the genes involved with Celiac disease or gluten intolerance.

I had negative blood tests and negative biopsy. I used Enterolab and my tests came back positive. I think that if I had waited longer the antibodies would have eventually shown up in my blood and damaged my intestines.

The question you may be asking now is, was Enterolab's test accurate?

I would say yes because if I get even a little bit of gluten I get very ill.

Also, after five months gluten-free, people who haven't seen me in a while comment on how different I look. If I look so different to people I don't see that often, I must look really different. They say I look healthier, have a better color and am less gaunt.

I've never been to Venice, but I loved Rome and Florence! I understand almost fluent Spanish (I don't speak it quite as well though), so I even understood a lot of the Italian.

Hi Venice boy, and welcome to this board! To your question if any people ever test negative with Enterolab, check this thread, and you will find that they do. One of Carla's daughters came back negative, and one positive! Open Original Shared Link

Of course, most people come back positive, as only people who suspect they have celiac disease (or gluten intolerance) will spend the money on getting tested.

If you can afford it financially, I think it would be well worth trying. At least then you would know for sure if your problems come from being gluten intolerant. And if you test negative, then you could look for a different cause. Because IBS is always caused by something! It could also be other intolerances.

Thank you for the link to Kenneth Fine's talk on gluten sensitivity! I always enjoy reading about his research - I highly respect his work and the testing that enterolab does.

My blood test and biopsy were negative, but IgA was elevated in the Enterolab test and I had noticeable improvement going gluten free.

Christine

PS - I slept on a bench in the Venice train station after we missed our train and the next one didn't leave until morning! LOL!

thank you to everybody to answer!! did you make only test for celiac or also the other test?becouse

I write to enterolab.com and they write me:

The most comprehensive panel we offer for the diagnosis of Celiac Disease is the gluten sensitivity stool and gene panel complete for $369. Of course, if you already know what genes you have, then you may only need the gluten sensitivity stool panel complete for $249.

Which tests do you suggest me to do?

I read the enterolab website but(maybe for my not optimal english) I didn't understand a few of things.During the travel can my stools lose their chimic and pysical properties? Are there any expecial way to send the stools?

Is Milk Sensitivity Stool Test Free inclused in $249 (or $369) ? (I read in the site that : EnteroLab is offering the Milk Sensitivity Stool Test Free when you order the Gluten Sensitivity Stool and Gene Panel Complete).what about yeast, egg and casein tests? If I want them must I to pay also other $99+$199=$298 ?

thank you

ps:for CarlaB: Venice is the most beautiful city in the world, you need to visit it!!! :D

for greengirl:I live 5 minuts from the train station!! It's typical for turists to lose the train and to sleep there!!

another thing for CarlaB:what does "gaunt" mean?No dictionary has it!!! :(

gaunt

A adjective

1 bony, cadaverous, emaciated, gaunt, haggard, pinched, skeletal, wasted

very thin especially from disease or hunger or cold; "emaciated bony hands"; "a nightmare population of gaunt men and skeletal boys"; "eyes were haggard and cavernous"; "small pinched faces"; "kept life in his wasted frame only by grim concentration"

That is a dictionary definition, I, too, could not find it in Italian.

I have heard Venice is beautiful. I have been to St. Petersburg, Russia, which I was told was designed after Venice, but I'm sure it is still very different. Especially since I was there in January!!

I believe Enterolab will tell you how to send the sample. They were pretty specific with their instructions here. I got the complete panel with the genetic testing and casein testing. They have a package price for it, but I cannot remember how much it was.

In plain english, gaunt is basically looking sick. Your skin is pale, your eyes look sunken and have dark circles around your eyes. It's not pretty.

Possibly gluten withdrawal. Lot's of info on the internet about it. Somewhat controversial but apparently gluten plugs into the same neuro sensors as opiates do and some people get a similar type withdrawal as they do when quitting opiates. Another issue is that gluten-free facsimile flours are not fortified with vitamins and minerals as is wheat flour (in the U.S. at least) so when the switch is made to gluten-free facsimile foods, especially if a lot of processed gluten-free foods are being used as substitutes, vitamin and mineral deficiencies can result. There is also the possibility that she has picked up a virus or some but that is totally unrelated to going gluten-free.

Daughter has started gluten free diet this week as per gastroenterologists suggestion. However says she feels more tired and like she’s been hit by a train. I suggested it could be the change to gluten free or just stress from the endoscopy last week catching up with her. Just wondering if feeling more tired is a normal reaction at this stage. I suppose it’s possible some gluten might have been present without realising. Have tried to reassure her it’s not going to resolve symptoms overnight

Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.
