I am going to ask what my be dumb questions...but I am going to ask them anyway!! :)

Our son has the DQ2 marker. Would that mean that one of us(his parents) have the gene also or are we be just carriers?? My thinking is this:

He is also a carrier for the cystic fibrosis gene...meaning his dad or I are also carriers...so does the same hold true in relation to the celiac gene....again I'm thinking.....if he has this, then do both of us have it also for it to show up in him??

I don't know if this makes sense or it is clear what I am asking....

ANY insight would be appreciated!!!

only one parent has to have it, but it could be carried by both.

Many people have the celiac genes and never develop the disease. One or both of you carry the gene and passed it to him. At some point, one of you could develop celiac if you had something to trigger it, like a bad virus.

Thanks for clearing that up for me...that is what I thought was the deal. my husband and I have both been tested and are waiting our results...hopefully this week.

DO you know why there isn't a better testing method since it seems (to me) that what they have (especially for kids--since that's all I know about) is so unreliable?? We have 3 other boys that we want to be tested but are reluctant to do it since it is not always reliable.

Thanks again!!

Personally, I don't think there's enough money in treating celiac since it's controlled by diet for there to be much research. I used Enterolab and have been impressed with them and all they are doing. I think that the current methods of testing should be changed as they have let so many of us down.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
