Gluten Free Cookies

I always used to buy the Mi-Del animal crackers and chocolate chip cookies for my son. We have not been able to find the animal crackers in the store where we shop lately. My mom happened to be at shop rite and bought a bag of the chocolate chip and ginger snaps. Now the bag is labeled "wheat free, gluten free" but then it says on the bag that the cookies are produced in a factory where wheat products are also produced. Is this OK? I thought that this would mean there is a chance for cross contamination. I'd like to know some of your opinions. Are you still going to eat this brand?

Mi-Del cookies have always been produced in a shared facility with products containing gluten... so far we haven't had any problems with them, but you will have to use your own judgement on this one. Personally, I don't think they are the best tasting cookies around, but my daughter LOVES them, so I get them for her... she is very sensitive to small amts. of gluten and they don't seem to bother her at all. (she reacts to Van's gluten-free waffles...)

My daughter loves the arrowroot cookies - we haven't had problems with them.

I have no problem with them.

I used to enjoy their arrowroot and "oreo" type cookies, but always seemed to suffer mild symptons afterwards. I've switched to Kinikinick oreos (Only way to make cookies'n cream Ice cream) and I've been very happy. Those "processed in a facility..." warnings always scare me- ESPECIALLY when they claim gluten-free on the front...what gives? If you're not 100% sure then don't make the claim! Peoples' health is at stake for crying out loud!

I used to eat the arrowroot cookies without any noticeable issue.

I bought a bag of Mi-Del's cookies this past weekend and was reading the ingredients. These cookies are labeled as wheat free and gluten free. Under the ingredients is an allery warning stating that they were made in a factory that also produces wheat products. Doesn't that make them a cross contamination risk and therefore should not be labeled as gluten free?

I'm very sensitive and have no problem with them. There's another pretty current thread on these same cookies you might want to read.

Many well known gluten free companies still have that cross contamination risk. I have not run into a problem too much with the brands that have the cc risk. You see, they clean the lines in between but they put that there to cover their butt.

Hi Kaiti:

Who's the guy?

I LOVE Ener G vanilla choc. cream cookies. I just ordered two more packages. If you really need a chocolate fix I have melted choc. chips and dipped these in it and let it harden. YMMMMMM

I have always reacted to Mi-Del Cookies, exept for the oreo-style ones. Avoid them like the plague!

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's bad enough to fight for a diagnosis and manage this disease, but to have your partner use it as a weapon against you is truly devastating. What you're describing isn't just a lack of support; it's abuse, full stop. Controlling your food and money is cruel, and his pleasure in your misery is chilling. Please hear this: the kindness from that woman at the food pantry is what you deserve. It's a glimpse of the real world, where people care. You deserve to eat, to heal, and to have peace. His actions are the biggest barrier to your health right now, and you are not broken—you are surviving in an impossible situation. Don't give up on that lifeline you've found.

Thank you.. Christina My anxiety is through the roof.  I think it was from eggs.  I really don't know because my eyes feel sore. Like I'm allergic to them.  I was defient in B12.   My heart is pounding and it won't stop.  Not sure what to do.   I don't have much support other than this forum.    Colleen

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌
