take it no one has this problem?? guess i should bring it up with my doctor on wensday then, hope its nothing bad and just gas or something but its strange and freaks me out everytime it happens

Lister Rising Star

also sometimes includes cramping with the burning, feels like my side is expanding and then spasims then goes back to normal and repeats

Lister Rising Star

they seem to start the second i wake up, and then go away about a hour later and them come back randomly thruout the day, though i can avoid atleast the burning feeling as long as i eat whenever it starts, but the poping noises continue thruout the day

jerseyangel Proficient

I'll take a stab at this :D --I think a lot of us get stomach noises. Trapped gas, healing intestinal tract, all the stuff we have going on in there. I get the burning now only when I eat something acid--like orange juice. I have not eaten yet this morning, and I'm having some abdominal noise right now--not sure why. Maybe I'm just hungry. We are also so aware of everything that is happening--sometimes we tend to be overly concerned. Are these noises also painful, or are you just aware of them?

Lister Rising Star

it starts as a fairly painfull burning sensation once the burning is over my stomic starts to gurgle a crap load ( this is how i know im hungry) as for the poping it does not hurt its just really strange noisis that i have never had before until all of this started

loraleena Contributor

You said the burning goes away when you eat. That is one of the symptoms of an ulcer. Have you been checked for that? I don't know about the popping noises.

The only time I had popping noises coming from my stomach was when I was pregnant.

It could be gas moving around. I would mention it to your dr the next time you see him/her.

stomach burning is the only symptom I get from Gluten. My doctor said your body produces excess stomach acid to rid itself of allergies/intolerances. Over time it gives you a mild form of gastritis. Once I quit gluten (i have a wheat allergy and gluten intolerance) it went away. Now if I get into some gluten my stomach burns instantly. Popping I am not sure on...

TinaB Newbie

Let me try this even though I'm fairly new (Jan 06). Question-1: you said "it starts as a fairly painfull burning sensation once the burning is over my stomic starts to gurgle a crap load ( this is how i know im hungry)" are you eating and then it stops burning or does it stop burning after a certain amount of time then gurgles and you know you're hungry and then eat? If it's the first that has to be an ulcer.

Question 2: Where in your stomach is the burning? Upper stomach just below the sternum (where ribs connect) or mid way (sternum to belly button) or below belly button? My hiatal hernia bothers me at the top just below sternum. From conversations from the dr the pain below the bb is usually intestinal/colon related. I probably have too many things going on at the same time to pinpoint what's causing what to help you but I found it very helpful before dx 2 sites that helped me figure out what was happening:

mayoclinic.com their symptom checker or intelihealth.com diseases & conditions and on right is 'diseases & conditions index'. You may also have a couple of different things happening at the same time. I agree w/others that the popping is probablly trapped gas or just stuff trying to move in a messed up intestinal tract  Definitely talk to your dr. I hope you have one who is up on celiac.

Good luck and let us know how it goes,

Tina

Is this the same as the popping stomach noises you've been complaining about all along or different?

Lister Rising Star

it will burn for like 10-15 seconds and then GURGLE and then burn and then GURGLE, but sometimes during the day it will just mildly burn for no reason, i have had a blood cultur done on my stools and also a hemocult card, both where negative for blood- even though even to this day if i look at my movements when i wipe there is a ton of black specks that kinda resemble coffe grounds, but they arnt like piles its like just lots of black dots on the tp, or in the stools themselfs have black dots all over them, but the doctor insists its not blood, but cant tell me what it is. as for the poping noises, it just randomly does that- i think more when i eat corn though, so maybe it could be how my body reacts to corn

same noises

the burning is on my left side right under my ribs, but not in the center, it burns there hten does it, but sometimes the burn comes from right below the ribs- the burning is really random but never on my lower stomic, just in random spots on my upper stomic, but it favors the left side

should I just ride it off as nothing? and just keep doing the diet and hope it gets better? or should i go back to the doctor- i dont have money for doctors but i meen if its what i have to do its what i have to do. but he is very persistant on the fact that there is no blood

jerseyangel Proficient

Lister--I know you don't have a lot of money to spend right now, but you have indicated that this doctor will see you between appts, and sometimes for a smaller than normal fee. Could you make a list of the things that are bothering you the most--the things that you've been posting about--and call and ask if the doctor can see you? Have the list ready, and stick to what you write down while you're there. I think for your piece of mind, this might be worth your time and money. :)

if i start rambaling off everything to him, hes gonna think im a hypo again, it took a ER visit for him to finally take me seriusly the first time. Now i have his attention but he is already getten blowy with me since his only response is "You have gluten sensativity its going to take time to heal call me in 3 months" well its been 3 months now but hes never in his office.... grrr.. lol.... ummmm. He wont be in until wensday then im having a phone call with him about my progress, he may want me to come in for xrays again or something anyways ( last time he took xrays there was a s tool lodged in me, and 3 weeks later it was still there ( somehow eveyrthing else is getting past it but it wont move) plus i think he wants another upper GI done in a few months to see if the subsadarean folds have started to fix themselfs

so does it sound like a ulcer? i meen without blood can it be? i would understand if it is since i did worry myself into a more sick state a couple months ago, but how do u fix one of it is one? will it fix itself if i just keep myself calm? and how come eating makes it go away

jerseyangel Proficient

Because a ulcer is basicaly a sore on the lining of your stomach, eating will make it feel better while the food is in the stomach because the acid is diluted somewhat by the food. That's why an ulcer feels worse when the stomach is empty. Your doctor did an endo, right? If you had an ulcer starting then, he would have seen it, as the scope goes through your stomach on its way to the intestine. I'm not saying you don't have one now, I suppose it's possible with your symptoms. Excess worry also steps up the production of stomach acids. Could be that. The treatment for ulcers is now a course of antibiotics--as they now know that they are usually caused by a bacteria. I still think you need to talk to the doctor because I think thats the only thing that will make you feel better. Here is some ulcer info--

i never had a endo, never had a colonoscopy, my bloodwork for celaic was negative, he just says im gluten sensative because of the folds that showed up on a upper GI(milk shake xray thing). The only reason he was gonna do a colonoscopy was to rule out ulceritive colitis and chrons, but he did that by doing a fecal hemocult test( he talked to a specalist and the specalist says, that no matter how early chrons or ulceritive colitis is, it would cause hemoglobins to pass thru into the stools, and since none at all showed that its definatly not what is wrong with me.

Oh, ok--I assumed that he saw the folds via endoscopy. Well, all the more reason, if you do suspect an ulcer, to talk to the doctor about it ;)

Lister Rising Star

nope he could see it with the gi so i suspect that meens there was alot of damage

i already suspected 1 in the past, brang up the idea to him and he keeps throwing me off saying that he already tested me for bleeding and anemic and nothing showed up so there is nothing to support the ulcer besides for the burning

on aside note- not sure if im sick or if its allergies but i feel like crap today, my nose is constantly plugged with a very bad pressure feeling on the sides of my nose, and im super tired, i ended up passing out around 5pm while playing with my cats and woke up at 9 after the sun went down

Lister --I honestly think you have gastritis--it sounds like the problems I had with gastritis before. I think you should go back to simple foods for awhile and eat a lot of little meals. Maybe check out the products threads and get an idea for a safe antacid. Also, I was getting really bad acid and symptoms like you describe even after going gluten-free and realized it was from corn and corn syrup products. It is really hard to cut out corn completely, but try for a couple of days and see. What is the new haircut like?

Lister Rising Star

ended up falling asleep because it was so hot today, gonna have to go get my haircut tomorrow.

as for gastritis is it a bad thing? or does it go away on its own? do you think thats all thats wrong with me? or on top of beeing gluten sensative?

Lister Rising Star

also one thing i forgot to add, was that in the morning both my left and right side hurt, not like bad pain but discomfurt, they feel like they are both incredibly full, until i have a BM,but that can be anywhere frmo 30 minutes later to 2 hours, all depends on when it feels like i have to crap, but my sides feel like i need to all day long

maybe there is something killing me, it would make sense, its the only explanation i have for how i feel everyday, always tired- even though iget plently of sleep and even take naps now (been avoiding naps since day 1 but after yesterday i just seem to fall asleep whenever now) always feel very drained(im taking sulinqual vitemens and they dont seem to be helping) stomic is always bugging me and my brain is almost always fogged up.... i meen i have been on this diet for over 3 1/2 months now, and i still feel like this, my body is craping out on me for some reason and the doctors cant figure out why.... i dont want to be sick anymore, i dont want to die, i dont want to live like this though,,, i dont know what i want... im a zombie right now and nothing is helping me... the doctors have came to a dead end and say

You are gluten sensative with IBS

grrrrrrrr obveisuly not SINCE I HAVE FELT LIKE CRAP FOR SO LONG............. i hate this i truley do. and now that the heat as picked up around here 98degrees today. i cant even go outside without wanting to pass out from the heat.

corinne Apprentice

What about trying a really simple diet with very easy to digest foods for a few days to see if what you're eating is causing the problems - bananas, applesauce, maybe some chicken (baked, no skin). Also, eat often if you can to minimize having an empy stomache.

Lister Rising Star

i have to eat every 45 minutes or else i get pains so thats not a problem. As for applesauce what brands? and applesauce/bannanas thats alot of fiber wont that plug me up?? i read that motts natural is gluten-free but i cant find that in any stores around me.

i am thinkign about going on a simple elimanation/rotation diet after i talk to my doctor on wensday, but i dont wanna throw myself onto a very low food diet yet becuse i need all the energy i can get, after tomorrow i work 9 days strait 4:30am-3pm gonna be hell for aweek

jerseyangel Proficient

Lister--Don't confuse a rotation/elimination type diet with not enough food. You can eat until you are full--you just eliminate certain foods on certain days. I did it for months, and was never hungry, and believe me--I actually gained weight in the last 6 months  (In my case this is not a good thing!) It's not a quick process, but well worth it if you suspect delayed food allergy (intolerance). I'm glad you plan to speak to your doctor about this--hopefully he will be able to guide you through it. My allergist was very helpful to me for this.

Mott's Natural is very good--it's what I use. Strange you can't find it--it's in every grocery store here.

Lister Rising Star

i dont really suspect a second food intolerancy, but i meen its the only thing i can do at this point, since my doctor refususe to think anything else is wrong... i really just hope there is not something wrong, my bigist fear is like there is a tumor in me or something that was not found... not sure if any of my tests have coverd that

i have had a catscan

upper gi(milkshake xray thing)

x-rays

lots of bloodwork

bactera/parasite/hemoglobin stool culture

hemocult card

so i meen i dont know what other tests should be done to clear out any other things that may be wrong, im just afraid that there is something else and we wont catch it until its to late, and im dieing slowly without knowing i just wanna live be healthy have kids in my thirtys watch them go off to college and die in my sleep at the age of 99 lol..... but the way its looking im afraid i wont see 23... i know im so dramatic but i meen my body hates me

Thanks @cristiana I really appreciate hearing all of this... I definitely need to look out better for the shared dishes/pans/ovens thing.  I'm currently not doing a good job of that at all.  But I think I need to make the airfryer a gluten-free only airfryer.  I've been keeping a food diary for these past few days and so far its been interesting.  I think I have 2 issues going on: I get a head/neck/shoulder/jaw ache when I get glutened (as well as feeling fatigued and brain fog).  At least this is what I think are my symptoms from consuming gluten.  I think that the only things I consumed were marked gluten-free, but they were a combination of "certified gluten-free" and "gluten-free", so I think I am definitely worried thinking that the "gluten-free" non-certifieds are not good enough for me.  Also, I feel like the issue of cross-contamination of dishes could be an issue for me too.  But there's also a second issue I'm trying to figure out.  I ate 2 dishes containing chicken this week from gluten-free companies (frozen dish, fully contained and sealed) - one of which had the "certified gluten free" logo on it.  And right after eating, I had bowel movements that I think would be classified as steatorrhea.  I have this type of bowel movement multiple times a week lately, which has become quite miserable. But from my food diary, I can tell that when I don't eat meat or eat fish, I am not experiencing this issue. From my reading, I can see that steatorrhea can result from malabsorption in the gut due to celiac, and I know that I do have issues with malabsorption because I have iron-deficiency anemia (my ferritin was 10 when last tested). I also had low potassium and low Vitamin D when first diagnosed with celiac, but both have come back into the normal range since I started going gluten-free and taking supplements.   Based on what you all are saying, I am now thinking that my iron-deficiency anemia, my steatorrhea, and my head/neck aches may all still be persisting because I'm still consuming this lingering amount of gluten regularly.  I've really got to do a lot to switch over to ONLY eating certified gluten-free products and also creating a clean space within my kitchen that is just for me to use, and probably just skip restaurants completely for a while... Also maybe in the mean time, I might just keep my foods simple.. no dairy or meats (just fish) which my stomach seems happier with. Do you all think this is something I should go into my GI doctor about?  Because when I saw her last, I wasn't having steatorrhea.  My GI symptoms were actually kind of mild, which I thought was sort of strange since I had just got diagnosed with celiac disease.  I was dealing with mostly headaches, etc and so I've been mostly working with a neurologist and physical therapist on these symptoms.. but there's only so much they can do when I trigger a brand new headache/stiff neck every week and I'm starting to think that celiac is at the root of all of this...  Thanks for all your support and insights

Welcome to the forum, @AnneBSunflower! Can you be more specific about the gluten antibodies? Which ones were found? Do you have access to the report and can you post the results? What is a "GI map"? How was this done? Is this a fecal matter test? Are you still consuming oats? Even "Gluten-free" oats? Have you checked all meds and supplements for possible gluten fillers or casings? Oral hygiene products? Are you sharing cooking facilities with wheat eaters?
    • AnneBSunflower
Hi. I am looking for mystery gluten in my diet due to having a GI map done recently and the results found gluten antibodies. However, let me provide a bit of background. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 15 years ago. Ten years ago I consulted with a functional medicine doctor who put me on the AIP diet due to gastrointestinal distress. She did not diagnose me with celiac disease, but my thyroid antibodies skyrocketed when we reintroduced gluten after 6 months on the AIP diet. I have been maintaining a gluten free diet for 10 years. I have on again, off again gut issues, cannot lose weight, chronic vitamin deficiencies despite a diet focused on whole foods, and my thyroid numbers are whacky even with medication (my T3 is good, T4 chronically low, TSH low). My doctor diagnosed me this week as having celiac in addition to the Hashimoto's. Again, I have been eating gluten free for 10 years. My doctor says there is something I am eating that my body is reacting to that has gluten and I have inflammation in my gut. I don't buy anything that is processed without reading the label and it stating it is gluten free. I know things like soy sauce, salad dressing, potato chips (I haven't eaten a potato chip in probably 30 years), roasted nuts, lunch meat, etc. can have gluten. What else? Does Armour Thyroid have gluten? Kirkland Almond non-dairy beverage (doesn't say gluten free, but there are no ingredients that would indicate gluten)? Philadelphia Cream cheese plant-based cream cheese says it is gluten free but it contains maltodextrin, could this still be a source of gluten? If the plant-based cream cheese with maltodextrin could be a source of gluten, could anything labeled gluten free but containing maltodextrin still be a source of gluten?

I struggled for a long time.   My TTG levels took an age to come down.  I even gave pure gluten free oats a miss, it took 8 years before I could tolerate them.  Removing dairy temporarily from my diet was hugely helpful.  Check your utensils and the oven you use are scrupulously clean, and don't open roast or bake food uncovered in an oven shared with gluten eaters.  Shared grills must be thoroughly cleaned down, too. Our oven packed up a couple of years after I was diagnosed and after that time the top oven became my family's oven, I use the lower oven.  Also our dishwasher - the old one left a residue, and sharing with gluten eaters I think this was an important factor in my slow recovery.  When the dishwasher packed up I started hand washing the plates and making sure they were really rinsed well.  When we got a new one we bought a Miele does the initial rinse with clean water, not yesterday's old water.   I stopped eating out for a while - that's a biggie.  In recent years, in the UK, thanks to Zoe's Law, caterers are having to really tighten up on catering for people with coeliac disease and allergies so I am now finding eating out much less risky.  But I'd advise being very careful with restaurants where flour is thrown about and is airborne (such as pizzerias) or where harried chefs might cook pasta in glutenous water by mistake, as those are the places I've been glutened in the most.
