Hello ,

i am marcus a 14 year old in the middle of nebraska i have had celiac disease since i was seven and i have grow to understand what i have and what i cant eat but it still amazes me how adult's and kids alike dont get that i cant eat wheat and gluten products. i get the same old questions "so can you have cookies or brownies" and the same old answer for years NO! but i get over it and go on with my day but it gets me really mad when people who have gone through the food services and dont know what wheat or gluten is and still screw up a meal that i find out i cant eat. Like fast food resturants dont understand a damn thing about my disease which just might be Nebraska or just people in genral . so what i am trying to say is it just my state or are there others like mine who just dont get it

I called a company to find out if their product had gluten in it. Their answer, "Oh no, it's entirely sugar free."

People in America are sorely undereducated about Celiac. Annoying, ins't it?

It's not specific to the food industry. Recently, I had a response from ORAL B that told me the product I was asking about was gluten free, but they could not tell me that the ingredients were gluten free.

Oh...okay.

It's not their fault they have no idea. After you tell them, ok then it's their fault.

but i get over it and go on with my day but it gets me really mad ...

Remember that gluten contamination makes some people with celiac disease start looking for a fight, so you might be suffering and getting mad.

People in general. But after you tell them? Then screwing it up is nothing you should put up with.

One of those says something about "You want to ask if you can watch them in the kitchen while they make it, but you would feel weird doing so." What you're talking about, Marcus, is why - even if you tell them, they may forget, and you keep thinking "Will it be an obvious screw-up or a little one?", will it be breading that you said to leave off, or will it be something suspended in a sauce that you can't even taste? Not fun.

Marcus,

The best lesson you can take out of this is realizing that you need to be vigilant about celiac disease.

Other people (most people) are ignorant of celiac disease and they need to be taught.

Very few people understand celiac disease (including doctors -- if most of them don't get it, how is the kid at McD's going to???), so when you run into those that do, embrace them and let them know you appreciate them looking after your well being.

celiac disease gives all Celiacs an opportunity to educate those around us. Unfortunately, most people with celiac disease end up getting mad and are unable to communicate to the people around them what their disorder entails.

I challenge you to become and educator of celiac disease and not allow ignorant folks to make you mad or ruin your day. Take it as an opportunity to increase Celiac awareness in Nebraska...

My two cents...

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
