Bard's Tale Beer

I sent an email to Bard's asking why, if they are manufactured in CA, we can't get it here. Following is thier response:

Lillyth,

Thank you for your email. You will soon be able to get our beer in California, especially in the Bay Area. The reason for the delay is that we have not been in California before and the distributors needed to be convinced that our beer was the real thing. Therefore the first batch out of California went to other states. Now that they have been able to try the beer, they are lining up to distribute our beer. So our beer should be available shortly.

Cheers,

Kevin Seplowitz

Hooray Beer!

I can tell you, from experience, that Bard's tale is a decent beer. I would drink it if I wasn't on a Gluten-free diet (of course at $11 per 6-pack I wouldn't drink much).

I'm happy for everyone in CA.

Luckily, we don't have to wait. Ramapo Valley Beer *IS* available in the bay area at both Whole Foods (Palo Alto for certain) and Rainbow Foods in SF.

Bard's Tale Beer has just shown up at our Local Hy-Vee. In fact, they have an entire display of it set up in the organic food section. I have tried it, and it tastes great with gluten free pizza!

I tried it last night at a meeting and it was only slighly less nasty than new grist. Just me, but I'd rather just have cider and have it taste good!

New Grist tasted like albuterol to me. YUCK!!!

Okay, so I've been begging for gluten free beer for every holiday for the last year and a half and I've never gotten any before. Yesterday was my birthday and my DH drove an hour and a half each way to go down to Maryland to get me a case. This was the first time in over two years that I've had a beer. Anyway, I know there are tons of other posts raving about Bard's Tale and how good it is, but I just wanted to reinforce, WOW! It tastes EXACTLY like real beer! I was so surprised! I just wanted to share because I knew you guys would be the only people who would understand the excitement of drinking a REAL beer for the first time in years. :D

I got this e-mail today. I thought I would share it!! Bard's is now in Kansas

gluten-free Beer Now Available in KS

Dear Bard's Tale Clan:

We are pleased to announce that Bard's Tale Dragon's Gold is now available in Kansas. It has been a long wait, but we believe it will be worth it.

Our distributor for Kansas is Standard Beverage Coporation and you can find their contact information at www.bardsbeer.com/distributors.asp. In addition, since this is our initial launch in the state, you will find 2 downloadable letters under Standard Beverage contact information. Give these letters to establishments that you want to carry the beer. Only your demands will make it readily available around the state.

You can find existing establishments carrying our beer by using our Beer Locator.

We sincerely thank you for your patience and ongoing support while we work to get you the beer you rightly deserve.

Cheers,

Kevin Seplowitz,

President. Celiac.

no offense, but

Ramapo doesn't taste that good to me -- its like a lemon in a stale beer.

I would rather drink a cup full of wheat than that stuff.

I get the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it!

Blech!

Is the Ramapo still very sweet. I bought some about a year ago and it tasted like bad mead. I'd much rather drink hard cider than the Ramapo although I heard they toned down the "honey notes." New Grist and Bard's, coming from a former quality beer drinker taste pretty damn good considering the ingredients.

Another vote here for the beer!!!! After 5 years without one, I had one on our anniversary in September. We went to the outback steakhouse and they had one!!!! Tastes like the real thing. Very cool :lol:B):D

Today I got my first bottle of Bard's Tale to drink. Went to lunch at Picazzo's Pizza and they had it there. I don't like it as well as the New Grist. But so far we don't have the New Grist in the health food stores here. So, today I bought 18 bottles of Bard's Tale (Whole Foods) before I tried it. Now if we get the NG soon, I HAVE to finish the BT's before I buy the other. Don't get me wrong, but I personally don't think it is as good as NG. I also thinks it has a little aftertaste. As slow of a drinker that I am this is going to last me some time.

Armetta,

Lunch the other day wasn't the same without ya!

We will have to get together and do lunch the next time I am down there!

Also, Picazzos gluten free flatbread and brie was really YUMMY! So is there oven roasted Hot wings!

I did not try the flatbread and brie. I had the shrimp and white sauce pizza and the wings. I wanted plenty of leftovers (LOL). Pete ordered his own pizza. But, now I know that whenever we go to Whole Foods, it is at lunch time, as Picazzo's is only 8 minutes away. Of course we only go to whole Foods about every 2 to 3 months as it is an 1 1/2 hours round trip.

Chris, glad you missed me. I missed meeting your girl friend ( and seeing you). She has been around long enough that I think it is time we meet. Has she met your Mom yet?

VegasCeliacBuckeye Collaborator

Armetta,

She will meet "The Mom" for the first time in November. Since they are both nurses, they should have a ton to gab about...

How was the shrimp pizza? I usually get sausage/mushroom/extra suace -- I love it!

Next time, I am going to try their hummus and flatbread...

mouse Enthusiast

The shrimp pizza was awesome. I loved the white sauce. Now that I know Picazzo's is only 8 minutes from Whole Foods we will go there more often.

I went to get a Bard's Tale beer out of the frig and the first one I grabbed was only half full. At the cost of this beer, this one is going back to Whole Foods. Hopefully I won't get a collection of 1/2 filled beers on the counter.

Since she is meeting Mom, then I assume a ring at Christmas and I get an invite to the wedding - he he. Besides YOUR biological clock is running out.

I can only presume and HOPE you are kidding...3 months does not 50 years maketh....

My clock is fine and should be for quite some time :)

Before I take any steps like that, I need to be more financially responsible and think long-term.

mouse Enthusiast

Yes I am kidding. And if I meet her, I promise not to bring up marriage. HUGS.

Is there a digestive enzyme that helps build a healthier gut? I see people taking them but not sure what really works
    • trents
So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
