Looks like I won't be able to come to the conference after all :(:(:(

Welcome Katja:

It takes a long time to be sure you are 100% gluten free. You will find so much valuable information from the other posts, just read through them. You can also do a search if you have a specific question. Just a few things off the top of my head, watch any medications as sometimes gluten is added to them, Kraft will list any of their products that use a grain. Gluten can be found in catsup, mustard, things like that. Be careful of cross contamination when you eat out. I don't know about your living arrangements, if you live alone then throw away your toaster. If you live with someone, be sure to keep your things separate as it doesn't take much to set you back. Make sure you use your own butter, peanut butter etc.

Glad to have you

Neither will I...

I had the form all ready to mail out with the check on payday, then I got called into a meeting at my daughter's dance studio to get the new schedule for the coming dance season. She is scheduled to meet with the out-of-town choreographer on Sept. 16th for 4 hours! She has to go to that. It is a one time thing. This is her first year on the competition team and the rest of the team will be there. They will have a hard time learning the dance if she isn't there. So we had to cancel our plans to go to the conference AGAIN! One of these years we are going to make it. I'm determined.

My daughter is cute though. She says to me, "Mom, can't you just drop me off with the dance teacher and you guys can go to the conference without me?" Not quite. I guess she didn't realise how far away the conference was from the choreographer!

So who's going?

want to have a place to meet or something, i'm not sure on the setup yet, we will set up the night before

it's coming up

the teen program promises to be really fun, and i am pretty sure that there is still some more room for registration if you still want to register for anyone.

just a reminder the kids have to be over 5 if you are going to bring your kids and have them be in the kids program.

So who actually came?

I was there early and if you saw me I was the girl in the tye-dyed gluten free flower shirt and before 8:30 was the girl running around everywhere and hitting everyone with baloons cause i needed to put them up.

I didn't go to any of the talks except for the Danna Korn one at the end, which i really liked, but a lot of people had already left.

The teen program went really well! it was really good and laid-back.

The kids program also went really well (better afternoon than morning) and yeah...

Hope you all had fun,

I want to know what you think and who all was there!

I was there! Molly, met your mom, she's so nice, and saw the book she wrote about your experience in hospital. Wow! I also saw you, but didn't introduce myself....was sitting at lunch enjoying gluten-free beer (it was SO good! ) with some really nice gals, one of whom you babysit for! I can't remember her name....she has a science background and a set of twins, one of whom is Celiac.

Interesting lectures, but sadly I got there just as Dr. Greene was ending, and he was the one I wanted to see the most. :( I did speak with him later and asked a couple of questions. I find him very attractive in an older Russel Crow sort of way.....and that accent and all.....oops, did I say that out loud?

I ate and ate and ate gluten-free snacks like crazy.....SO many delicious baked goods, pizza, everything, I hadn't had any baked goods since going gluten-free. THE most delicious cupcakes, made here locally at a bakery - OMG am going to figure out how to make cake.

I left early as wanted to hang out with my friends here - missed danna's lecture.

Anywho, it was fun but I didn't meet anyone from my area (Central CA), it would have been great to meet Valley Celiacs.....also great networking for people who live in this area, lots of meetings and such but I am three hours away.

DONNA - where were you? You could have been there for all I know, lots of people.....would have been great to meet up!

that's my report....gotta go play now and enjoy this glorious weather! the dingos are so happy to be out of Fresno....

:)

Susan, glad you went! I ended up not going...I dropped off the old paint supplies at the drop off, then decided I didn't feel like a whole day thing...so just went and hung out with my mom for a while. I was still feeling a bit "off" yesterday, couldn't even finish my lunch (which had my mom worried, cuz I ALWAYS feel like eating, lol).

Susan, I'm glad you went and had a good time. You gotta come up to Portland again. I could meet you there. :)

Donna, I hope that you are feeling better today. Too bad you and Susan couldn't meet up.

I was there, and I saw you Molly!!! =)

I actually was sitting with a very nice lady from OK, who's son was in the teen program. When I was getting my lunch, I heard a bunch of kids yelling, "MOLLY, MOLLY" over and over. And, I thought... "who else could it be?"

LOL!!

I learned SO much! I was SOOOOOO glad I went!!!

pturse Apprentice

I was there! It was really great. I learned so much and wish I had known about this conference when I was first diagnosed. My DH went too just so I wouldn't have to go alone and he actually learned a lot AND really liked the gluten free beer (so did I).

We also ate our body weight in snacks and treats. I felt so ill when I left from all the "free" samples!! Free samples = no calories right??

Either way, great conference and my aunt wants to attend with me next year. Dr. Greene was great, quite the speaker. He makes it entertaining AND interesting. Danna Korn was great too. I have to say though, it is easier listening to a doctor/nutritionist who actually lives with Celiac then it is to just listen to a regular doctor. Dr. Greene doesn't have celiac but there was another female doctor who spoke that lives with celiac (Gayle Phyle I think) and she was great too!

jayhawkmom Enthusiast

I missed the beginning of Gail Pyle's talk - as I was "eating my weight in treats" --- but I did see Melinda Dennis, the nutritionalist.... and she has Celiac. I really learned a LOT from her.

Ok, so did any of you who went win any of the baskets?? The two people sitting on either side of me BOTH won baskets. I was so mad. LOL!! I would never have been able to get one on the plane, but it would have been nice to have one. They looked GREAT!

flagbabyds Collaborator

yeah we spent a LOT of time on them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and the goody bags at the beginning

yes they were yelling my name, we have 1/2 an hour off and went around to all the vendors and ate all the chocolately gsuarys good stuff so all the teens were REALLY hyper by the end.... :)

pturse Apprentice

My hubby and I wanted to win a basket SO bad too!! People in front of us and behind us both won them. We decided next year we have a new strategy in buying out tickets!!

Melissa Dennis wasn't it? Maybe it was Melinda, either way, you are right. She was fabulous. I went out and bought two new grains over the weekend because I am one those celiacs who immediately went to the "potato, corn and rice" diet and gained way too much weight.

Same here. In fact, I just had some buckwheat with bananas for breakfast. YUM!!! I actually am 1 year postpardum - and I have only lost about 20 of the 70 lbs I gained during pregnancy. I'm now blaming the corn, potatoes, and rice for not being able to lose any more weight. So, I'm going to leave them behind for a while, and eat Buckwheat, Amaranth, and Quinoa and see if I can get this weight to shift again!!!

After the birth of my 2nd child, the weight melted off. This is frustrating!

And Molly..... I'm hoping to bring my daughter with me next year. She'll be 6. I saw many small children around that age. Did you work with them as well?? I'm wondering how well kids that age group seperated from their parents in a strange situation. My daughter cried all weekend because I was gone. =(

How did you make the buckwheat? I tried the millet in the rice cooker last night. Seemed to work. I read online you can do the same w/the buckwheat . . .

I actually bought "cream of buckwheat" cereal, after making certain that buckwheat was ALL it contained. I made it stovetop, just like oatmeal.

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.
    • Scott Adams
Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
