Poor little guy! Our Ped has always told us to just keep an eye on mouth sores. When DS split his lip and had to have stitches, we did have to buy this rinse for him to use, but I can't remember the name of it. It was similar to a mouthwash and we used a Q-tip to apply it.

Hope he is feeling better soon!

You can buy some canker medication OTC at most pharmcacies. It stings a little bit, but my wife and son use it, and it seems to heal them a little faster. I can not remember the name of it, or find it in the medicine chest right now though.

Hope that helps.

If it is hurting him, try putting some NumzIt or Oragel on it. And give him lots of hugs.

Vincent, there will be many of these. A little neosporen or anti-infectious salve may help.

Ah, poor little man! I have 3 right now and feel like I am DYING! Kanka works wonders for me. I was told by my dentist that Oragel can make the tissue hard, which causes the sore to take longer to heal. I have always found that putting peroxide on frequently helps as well. Hope it gets better soon!

i put salt on it, yes it stings but it heals in about 1/2 the time and overall makes it better.

when I did something stupid like that, my dentist had me rinse my mouth with peroxide (watered down)... you could probably water down some hydrogen peroxide and put it on a q tip and swab it that way

I always used salt water rinses (or H2O2 rinses) and oragel if it was really painful.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.

I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon. There are 5 known members of the herpes virus family including chicken pox that commonly infect humans, and they all cause lifelong infections. The exact cause of viral reactivation as in the case of shingles or cold sores is not well understood, but stress, sunburn and radiotherapy treatment are known triggers. Some of the herpes viruses are implicated in triggering autoimmune diseases: Epstein-Barr virus is suspected of triggering multiple sclerosis and lupus, and there is a case where it is suspected of triggering coeliac disease. As to whether coeliac disease can increase the likelihood of viral reactivation, there have been several cohort studies including a large one in Sweden suggesting that coeliac disease is associated with a moderate increase in the likelihood of developing shingles in people over the age of 50. US 2024 - Increased Risk of Herpes Zoster Infection in Patients with Celiac Disease 50 Years Old and Older Sweden 2018 - Increased risk of herpes zoster in patients with coeliac disease - nationwide cohort study
