I keep exercising, diet is all wheat and gluten free. What else can I do!!!

bloating isn't fat though, it's a digestive disturbance producing intestinal gases at a higher rate than normal. my stomach is always bloated too and i'm way underweight, not an ounce of body fat.

how long have you been on the diet, maybe you need more time for it to clear up? or maybe its a secondary issue that needs to be addressed separately from being gluten free? i dunno, just some thoughts.

I find eating dairy and soy lead to bloating, are you eating either of them?

I agree with the dairy and soy. I took my DD off of Dairy and within a couple of wks., her bloating went away. I took her to McD's to get a vanilla milkshake and guess what, the bloating and gas came back with a vengance. I took DD Friday to have blood drawn for Milk allergy test. We'll see.

I was always bloated even after being gluten-free for 4 months. I had a stool test and I had a candida issue, bad bacteria and an amoeba. I treated all that I don't have a problem with bloating anymore. Candida is pretty common with celiac, I don't know if that is something that rings true for you. Threelac worked the best for that.

i know bloating isn't fat, but if you are starving yourself, your body will STORE fat to counteract. this could result in a puffy stomach.

I was perpetually bloated. So I

1. quit gluten (obviously)

2. quit all grains

nope, still bloaty...felt better though

3. went on Candida cleanse diet (Body Ecology Diet)

all bloating went away.

I think it was the quitting all sugars, including fruit, that did it. I did this for a little over a week stringently, then added back some low glycemic fruits like applees and berries. I still eat no dairy, no grains, no beans of any kind; and no starchy veggies really.

I also eat raw sauerkraut, which is supposed to help digest proteins and fats, and DOES make your skin look great.

I also take Florastor most days - it is a yeast rather than a pro-bacteria, but it is along the same lines as acidophilous, etc.

I also think it's possible to bloat from too much or anyway the reintroduction of good bactria into your digestive tract, especially if you're not doing anything to kill off the bad stuff.

that's my experience.

Simple remedy if you're bloated w/ gas seems to be Gas-X. :)

Gas-X relieves symptoms, but not causes. And, for me, it tends to cause constipation.

It did remind me that activated charcoal can help - but along with air and gas it also grabs vit/min and takes them out of the system - so you wouldn't necessarily want to use it forever or in excess.

I say find out what's bloating you, and put an end to it. It has changed my life - literally. In fact, last night I was bloated for the first time in weeks. I was so crabby. How did I live like that for so long? (no, I'm not sure why, though I ate some dried fruit yesterday and the day before; and I was stressed yesterday - that never helps.)

Definitely try a candida cleanse and avoid dairy. My bloating is 90% gone since going gluten and dairy free two weeks ago.

Also you might want to try a colon cleanse. Dr Natura's is gluten free. I already checked. www.drnatura.com

I am very bloated as we speak. The scale also says in the past 24 hours I have gained 4 pounds. Even after losing 11 pounds over the past 2 1/2 months, my clothes do not feel any looser due to the bloating. Disgusting!

I was reading today how long-chain carbs can cause bloating and intestinal discomfort. The website was talking about sports drinks, actually...but said that fructose often causes people problems. Granted, most times it causes problems are going to be in sports drinks or other drinks (think high-fructose corn syrup), but for some, it may be from eating too much fruit.

If you do either sports drinks or sport things (fructose, maltodextrin, amylopectin, and amylose are names of sugars), that could be the problem too.

On top of dairy and gluten being a huge bloat-producers for me, too much fat also makes my stomach bloat right up. Just a thought.

Nightshades can do it too, come to think of it. (tobacco, tomato, eggplant, potato, peppers. NOT sweet potato or black pepper)

Thank you all for your responses. I have had this problem siince I was little. I wasnt diagnosed with celiac till 7 2004. No wonder I felt in a fog all my life!!! Does anyone have a problem with Neutropenia???

I also have severe chronic idiopathic neutropenia AKA my body cannot keep a healthy white count up!

Thyroid was taken out in 2004, seems for some celiac persons to also be a problem.

      He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

      Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

      Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have.It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.
