Quicker Way To Get Blood Test

I was at a dinner today and the lady who sat across from me was a lady from the county health office. She was there to perform cholesterol tests for the business owners for $10 per person. She asked if I wanted one and I told her I knew mine because I had to have blood drawn alot to test my hemoglobin among other tests. I made the comment that I hated have to call a doctor, make an appointment, go to the lab, then wait a week to hear my iron level. She said that at the health office I could get one done and know the results immediately---and it was a finger prick and not a needle. And all they asked was a donation. I thought this sounded great especially no needle. You may check with your county health office but this could save time and waiting.

The ped. gastro. said those tests were inaccurate and useless. :blink::huh:

ditto - I've had two doctors tell me before that those tests (the finger-prick ones) were next to useless.

Hmmm... how about next time you give blood for the regular testing you do this testing at the same time to see how accurate it is for yourself? :) I'd like to know why the Drs say they are inaccurate, I know nothing about the tests other than Drs like to say things at times that aren't true. ;)

      Welcome to the forum, @The Logician! Many antibiotics have anti-inflammatory properties. By the way, GMO wheat is not used in food products: https://www.chefsresource.com/faq/is-wheat-genetically-modified-in-the-united-states/ There is a common misconception that it is.

      I do not have celiac disease however for 20 years-plus I have been sensitive to gluten. A slice of bread will give me diarrhea in less than an hour. This started with me around the time I believe GMO wheat was beginning to appear in products on the market. Last week i went into the hospital to get antibiotic IV for three days. While there I was constipated so I figured eating gluten would fix that. I had gluten at every meal and it had no affect on me. I was still constipated until I got home and hen started having normal bowel movements even though I continued eating gluten products and I have never felt better! Not even a hint of diarrhea. I’ve eaten some gluten in bread, cream of wheat...

      It sounds like your gastroenterologist is becoming increasingly confident that celiac disease is the likely diagnosis based on both your older and newer lab results. Her suggestion to call each Monday for possible cancellations is actually a great strategy—especially given how long the wait is until your August 29th appointment. It’s also a good sign that she’s advocating for you to be seen sooner, which shows she’s taking your case seriously. The fact that some labs might not have been drawn yet due to overlap with your functional health doctor’s upcoming testing adds a layer of confusion, but that’s unfortunately common when multiple providers are involved.       Thanks for sharing that film, @trents.  I am not sure how I missed that film as I see it is a few years old, but it is very good.  I think you should be fine if you take your own packed lunch and eat it from your own lunchbox etc.  Might be worth doing a lunchtime recce to see how cramped the room is before making a decision - for all you know, there may be other people  there who don't eat gluten?

      The GI doc messaged me this afternoon that she believes that the new blood work added to the old is definitely  looking like a celiac diagnosis is in my future.  She wants to me to call into scheduling each Monday to see if I can get my August 29th appointment moved up due to cancellations.  I have never had a doctor recommend that.  She also said there were additional labs that she requested still out that have not come back yet; so, they may have been missed drawing those since the functional health doctor has a whole slew of labs that I am suppose to be waiting until August 27th to do. I am still waiting to hear on whether or not she will allow me to do pill prep versus the typical...
