Thyroid Basal Temp

I just wanted to start a whole new thread for this thyroid related to basal temps thing. (I didn't want Berneses' post to transform!)

I'm 24, and my temperature is ALWAYS low. even as a child, when I would tell my mom I had a fever, I was usually sitting at 97 or 98. I can be burning UP, and at 96 or 97. I never thought it meant anything.

I am hypothyroid and have been for twelve years. Does this mean that my levels are within normal, but on the low side of normal? Can I take something OTC in addition to my synthroid?

I love this forum!

Hey Courtney- Thanks fopr not hijacking my thread :P No, it would have been fine as I think ALL this stuff is somehow related. After feeling pretty good yesterday, i woke up today FREEZING cold. It's 70 degrees here and I was under a quilt and a down comforter.

A fever for me is anything above 97!

CarlaB said she takes Solaray Thyroid. I picked some up at the health food store yesterday and it was only $8. :D But you should probably ask your doc about taking it with the synthroid. I REALLY think I have a thyroid problem but don't understand why it's not being detected?????

My naturopath is from India, and he suggests taking kelp, and doing this exercise:

1. put your chin to your chest

2. breath in

3. hold breath while moving head to look toward sky

4. exhale breath

5. repeat

It's certainly a bit different than what we're used to, but it is claimed to stimulate the thyroid. He told me a coue years ago I was "subclinical hypothryroid", so western docs would not claim it as a problem. But he said I'd get worse if I didn't do the exercises. I never have, of course, for any length of time.

anyway, just a thought.

Thanks- that's actually kind of cool and even if it doesn't help my thyroid, it will stretch out my neck and help me do some breathwork! :D

I'm going to start taking the Solaray thyroid. Can't hurt!

I wouldn't take the Solaray with the synthroid .... they're both thyroid and if your doc has you taking it, I would think it would be best to work with the levels you're on or the type (you are on a synthetic thyroid, I believe the one I take is natural, but I'd have to go look to know for sure).

The other thing with thryroid is that many people who are trying to eat healthy either eat little salt, or sea salt. If you do not have the iodine in your diet, then your thyroid can go low from that. The Solaray has iodine in it.

I know I feel much, much better if my temps are around 97.6 or higher. As women, this temp should be taken from the first day of your period through ovulation. After ovulation it will rise naturally by 4/10ths of a degree.

Edit - I just thought it would be relevant to have Dr. Broda Barnes name on this thread since he is the doc who did research on this idea. Lots of info comes up when you google his name.

Interesting! I'm a big believer in breathing. It is amazing what it can do for my anxiety attacks.

Kelp is a good source of iodine.

Is this the same restaurant? https://www.facebook.com/TheHappyTartFallsChurch/ Is it too late to take this up with your credit card company? Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!

Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.

Absolutely my point with Kerrigan, the owner. She stood to secure many years of faithful patronage by simply inviting us in for a pastry or lunch. Or by simply producing another $50 e-card based on trust. We would have been highly satisfied. We are limited to a few restaurants in the area, and that would have been one. It was very disappointing, esp to my wife, to realize we can't patronize the place anymore.

You would think any business would see the wisdom of honoring a $50 gift certificate on the basis of customer satisfaction alone, apart from any questions about software glitches.
