Anyone Have Problems With Milk Too?

when i first went gluten free i cut out all gluten as well as all milk products.. for a few days i pretty much lived on rice noodles and well.. rice.. lol.. and all was well.. now i am having milk and things arent going so well.. its much better than when i was eating gluten and milk.. but bleh.. question is does anyone else have a milk problem? how do you get calcium?

I am also casein intolerant. I take supplements. Green leafy veggies (except for spinach, which has a chemical that prevents absorption of calcium) are plentiful in calcium. The problem for me is that I'm going through TMJ treatment and none of my back teeth touch ... can't really chew leafy greens!!

The interesting thing is that milk is not as good as a calcium source as we think. Our country has one of the highest milk consumption rates, and one of the highest osteoporosis rates. My understanding is that protein depletes calcium. We tend to eat so much protein, including in milk, that it may contribute to our osteoporosis problem.

That's just from what I've read ... I'm certainly not an expert!

Dairy is definitely your culprate!! Stay away from milk for a couple of weeks and see what happens. And yes leafy, green veggies have tons of calcium. Try doing an internet search on calcium because there are a million other ways to get your daily calcium :)

I'm dairy intolerant - not just casein or lactose. Until I went soy-free, I drank a lot of fortified soymilk, which has great levels of calcium.

If you're concerned about your calcium consumption, take a calcium supplement AND try to eat lots of leafy dark greens.

      What you’re describing is actually very common, and unfortunately the timing of the biopsy likely explains the confusion. Yes, it is absolutely possible for the small intestine to heal enough in three months on a strict gluten-free diet to produce a normal or near-normal biopsy, especially when damage was mild to begin with. In contrast, celiac antibodies can stay elevated for many months or even years after gluten removal, so persistently high antibody levels alongside the celiac genes and clear nutrient deficiencies strongly point to celiac disease, even if you don’t feel symptoms. Many people with celiac are asymptomatic but still develop iron and vitamin deficiencies and silent intestinal damage. The lack of immediate symptoms makes it harder emotionally, but it doesn’t mean gluten isn’t harming you. Most specialists would consider this a case of celiac disease with a false-negative biopsy due to early healing rather than “something else,” and staying consistently gluten-free is what protects you long-term—even when your body doesn’t protest right away.

      Yes, I meant if you had celiac disease but went gluten-free before screening, your results would end up false-negative. As @trents mentioned, this can also happen when a total IGA test isn't done.

      I found at Disney springs and Disney they have specialist that when told about dietary restrictions they come and talk to you ,explain cross contamination measures tsken and work with you on choices. Its the one place I dont worry once I've explained I have celiac disease.  Thier gluten free options are awesome.

      Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.
