Oh Carla . . . I forgot to respond to this . . . YOUR phone is SO more expensive than my little camera. The prereq for my camera was that it had to fit in my littlest purse. And I can't call anyone on my camera . . . or if I do, I have to YELL Real Loud! :lol:

Adam got me a pink camera for Christmas ... he said he saw a much more expensive one that did a lot of things, but with my Lyme brain/impatience, he thought the simple one was better for me ... problem was, he forgot where he put the memory card for it, so I couldn't bring it when we met.

But my phone takes pretty good pictures. And, I don't usually have to yell on it unless I'm talking to my kids!

I do have an idea--make a picture frame ("tile" an inexpensive, wide frame randomly with the broken pieces) and put a nice picture of your mom in it :)

Sounds like a good idea. Everyone else seems to agree so mosaic picture frame it is. And even better than the house, I can keep it out all year round.

So......I just took a shower and am, of course, minding my own business......but I was thinking....I KNOW WHAT ALEX CAN DO wtih the broken pottery! :rolleyes:

Okay Alex......the frame is the wrong idea, because it doesn't tell a story. So.....here's exactly what I would do: go and find a really cheap small table - an end table or a coffee table, depending on the area needed for the broken pieces.

then, assemble the fronts of the houses - I assume they are (or were :( ) three-dimensional, square ceramic structures? Well, just assemble the fronts of the houses like a puzzle piece, so they'll show a true representation of themselves.

arrange the houses in a logical and pleasing pattern.

Use the rest of the broken pieces as background mosaic for the whole piece. You may need to collect more ceramics for a while in thrift stores to add to the area.

Get the appropriate grout and etc. etc. and all supplies. when finished, paint the table the appropriate coloUr.

and voila..........a beautiful piece that still shows the houses.

(raising hand wildly).......you can ALSO do, instead of table if that's too daunting, some clay flower pots, or wooden boxes, arranging the houses in their appropriate shape on one or more object, then grouping together. Just remember to apply your adhesive somewhat thickly.....and choose the most complimentary-coloUred grout, unless simple white will do.

As a random bit of info, there are groups investigating whether infecting someone that has IBS/IBD/Crohn's with intestinal parasites could convince the gut to convert from the autoimmune response (that's causing symptoms) to a parasitic response.

I could use some creative input if anyone is so inclined. This morning I was putting away the couple of ceramic Christmas houses that I have and horror of horrors I tripped and dropped the house that my mom had made about 20 years ago. After many tears and cheering up from my fiance, I am determined to make something special with the pieces of ceramic. Any ideas?

Alex, I'm seeing a mosaic, as well...but definitely something abstract. I think if you recreate the look of the houses two-dimensionally, it will look very kitschy. How 'bout this: If it is in a million pieces, forget this, but if it's in, say, twenty-odd pieces and you can tell how they would be arranged, I would try grouting them back into the house shape, with the grout very visible, so it looks like a somewhat...different, abstact but recognizable...house. Think of the cubists' landscapes...Man, I'd love to do this for you...SEND IT ALL HERE!!! :lol::lol:

      I assume that you already know that genetic testing for celiac disease cannot be used to confirm a celiac diagnosis. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. It can be used to rule out celiac disease with a high degree of confidence, however, in the case where the genetic testing is negative for the genes. Until and unless you are actually diagnosed with celiac disease I would not raise this as an issue with family. However, if you are diagnosed with celiac disease through blood antibody testing and/or endoscopy with positive biopsy I would suggest you encourage first degree relatives to also purse testing because there is a significant chance (somewhere betwee 10% and almost 50%, depending on which studies you reference) that they will also have or will develop active celiac disease. Often, there are symptoms are absent or very minor until damage to the small bowel lining or other body systems becomes significant so be prepared that they may blow you off. We call this "silent celiac disease".

      If you were off gluten for two months that would have been long enough to invalidate the celiac blood antibody testing. Many people make the same mistake. They experiment with the gluten free diet before seeking formal testing. Once you remove gluten from the diet the antibodies stop being produced and those that are already in circulation begin to be removed and often drop below detectable levels. To pursue valid testing for celiac disease you would need to resume gluten consumption equivalent to the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread daily for at least two weeks, preferably longer. These are the most recent guidelines for the "gluten challenge". Without formal testing there is no way to distinguish between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity since their symptoms overlap. However, celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that damages the small bowel lining, not true of gluten sensitivity. There is no test available for gluten sensitivity so celiac disease must first be ruled out. By the way, elevated liver enzymes was what led to my celiac diagnosis almost 25 years ago.
