My kids are on spring break in April. I'm headed to the school right now. I didn't post it but even though I sent my son to school on Wednesday, my daughter ended up home sick on Thursday and Friday. So now I'm behind in my school work.

I bet we asked about a half a dozen times this weekend if everybody had their homework done . . . which was followed with . . .Yes!!! I'm Done!!! So on the way to the bus stop, my daughter says . . . "Mom, I need my reading log. It's on the clipboard" I send her on out and go looking for the missing reading log. . . and can you guess it? . . . it was not done. She did all her reading but she is suppose to write about something she read. So I sent it on the bus with her with the clipboard so she can try and get it done before she gets there!!!! KIDS!!!!

I spent about 2 1/2 hours on the phone last night with my best buddy K. Whenever K and I are together we tend to shop. It can be for clothes but usually it's for our houses. Now that she has moved to Massachusetts we don't get to do that . . . so for 2 1/2 hours, we were on various websites looking at kitchen cabinets and hardware, door handles and lock kits, comparing finishes and styles, etc. Wasn't quite the same (no money was actually spent) but I did get quite a shopping fix and some home updating opinions/advice. I have announced to my husband that I am de-brassifying the house (all light fixtures, door hardware, etc $$$$$$). He took it well.

Sillies I thought of you all today whilest I surfed through the channels while folding laundry. My fair Brady was on VH1, which has Greg brady and that model Adreinne Curry from the Surreal Life. I guess they are still together. Anyway in this episode she was laying in bed and suddenly sticks her rear in the air and says A$$'s of Thunder and farts louder than I have ever heard....on national Tv.....

A$$ of Thunder!!!!!!!!! :lol: that's brilliant! But(t) - on national TV - mygawd.... :unsure: quite the bawdy one, ain't she?

LITTLE wicked me arse!!! Sue's a big fat meanie!!!

<i'm telling>

MAAAAAAAAAAA-ahhhhhhhhhhhmmmm!!!!!!

<susie's not herself w/out her kissey-boy>

:o Noooooooooooooooooooo don't cancel the BevMo order!!!!!!!!!!! :P OMG - you do know I was being totally silly, just adding some levity......but I agree with Em - - it's a very unfortunate situation (I am sleepy and she phrased it all better than I can at present).....

My serious thoughts on it are that John is in enormous pain, if he needs to take the vicodin WITH the Phaerie :blink: and in the morning?

Sadly, I am speaking from direct experience here. In Monterey - aka "The Lost Years" - - and even upon first returning to Fresno back in aught-four (living in House of Terror :ph34r: ), I would occasionally drink, say, an entire bottle (or more) of wine, and take a few Klonepin with it or some other significant drug(s). Very sad. [though - never started before 1 or 2 in the afternoon] Lauren called them my Marilyn Monroe weekends......and obviously it's all about masking deep pain....... poor John - needs to go to MEETINGS I'd say...... (and BTW a sidenote - this is the only time I was/am thankful for Celiac - improper absorption so liver levels are perfect! :blink: )

but poor YOU! This is pretty untenable. I would suggest having a talk with him but....I fear that's futile.....so I'd start praying for a big change....... as in, he suddenly must move out and you acquire a more normal chap to move in.......

Boy, some sadness lingers here today.

Just reading about Jeff. He had battled cancer all of his life, and music truly helped him get through the pain of treatment and the knowledge that his life would likely be a short one. I will listen to his songs differently, now...I'm sure I'll hear new things.

I read about him last night. Wow, what a life and an inspiration. Will look for some stuff on youtube later......

I so for 2 1/2 hours, we were on various websites looking at kitchen cabinets and hardware, door handles and lock kits, comparing finishes and styles, etc. Wasn't quite the same (no money was actually spent) but I did get quite a shopping fix and some home updating opinions/advice. :lol: I do this with several friends.... "hey, I'm about to order this shirt/shoes/Lady of Leeeeeeeeeezure suit, whaddya think?" and then we're both looking at it in seconds................

<sometimes I DON"T hate technology but don't tell Kissey> :ph34r::lol:

I am with my medical monitor today. We are going over my 2 new patients on my new study. She is really impressed so far so that makes me happy :) I am excited! I was worried about this visit. Plus she is a Weggies fan and doesn't have a store near her, so I am going to offer to grab her some stuff if she wants anything for the next time she comes.

Loving Emily's Mums new buzzword :lol::lol:

Good GOD...I don't think I have ever heard my Mum swear.....except...maybe :unsure: when I told her I was marrying Terry :lol:

Emily - YES be very grateful your daughter still thinks boys are disgusting!!!! ( I'm absolutely sure I would be a nervous wreck if I had 3 girls instead of boys!! :o )

I seem to be losing my voice without any accompanying man-flu type ailments :huh:

However - it has done wonders for my singing voice - adding a sultry,husky tone...........well, *I* think so singing in my car :lol:

Re drinking: Terry also thought he could drink anyone under the table pre celiac disease dx...... :lol: .......still has trouble accepting that he is DRUNK after 3 glasses of wine now :lol:

Good one, Amanda! Thankfully, you kept our brain this week....think she wouldn't have been as impressed if you'd been without it. :lol:

What's your new study about? Does it by any chance deal with cognitively healthy seniors who suddenly want to be cool, compromising all dignity, decorum, etc.? :rolleyes:

Well here's some pretty harrumphable business (<cue Oz music> .. .If ever harrumphable biz there was .. ..)

Knew I had a tire to replace, but didn't expect it to be totally flat today. Wasn't flat at all yesterday.

No biggie .. .10min to change to stupid mini-tire & on my way right? Wrong!!! Somehow the MINI-SPARE IS FLAT TOO!!!!!

No morning Phaerie, 'just' beer & vic.

He's had the vic for many months, waiting for an actual medical need or . .. ..whatever yesterday was.

I did ask him earlier today by txt; got this back:

"Sorry man... ... Just got in a funk was all. Went to the gym this morning and took it out on that. Feelin' better. Thanks for puttin' up with me. : P "

So either he doesn't know himself what brings da funk (to THIS 7:30am-git-fukt-up-asap level???), or just won't say.

Sadly, I am speaking from direct experience here. In Monterey - aka "The Lost Years" - - and even upon first returning to Fresno back in aught-four . . ..

While I agree that seems like a reasonable assumption - I've been there in the past too - no other evidence fits.

He's got too much goin' on.

Just Thurs/Fri, he & 2 work buddies planned a round-the-world trip, using freq flyer miles, that includes Tokyo, London & Amsterdam at a minimum.

There's the flurry of dating & yesterday wasn't about wallowing.

He spent a couple hrs out at the park watching friends play bball, riding the bike back a couple times to grab another couple beers.

And other 'out, being w/ people' activities.

.....so I'd start praying for a big change....... as in, he suddenly must move out and you acquire a more normal chap to move in.......

I'd be the one to move.

Uncle Ray is back in da hood- all is very definitely not right with the world!

SMART ARSE ANSWER OF THE YEAR 2007

A teacher at a polytechnic college reminded her pupils of tomorrow's final exam. 'Now listen to me, I won't tolerate any excuses for you not being here tomorrow. I might consider a nuclear attack or a serious personal injury, illness, or a death in your immediate family, but that's it, no other excuses whatsoever!' A smart-arsed chappie at the back of the room raised his hand and asked, 'What would happen if I came in tomorrow suffering from complete and utter sexual exhaustion?' The entire class was reduced to laughter and sniggering. When silence was restored, the teacher smiled knowingly at the student, shook her head and sweetly said, 'Well, I suppose you'd have to write the exam with your other hand'.

      Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Just to clarify, I actually did have my initial tests done while I was still consuming gluten. I stopped eating gluten only after those tests were completed, and it has now been about 70 days since I went gluten-free. I understand the limitations around diagnosing NCGS and the importance of antibody testing and biopsy for celiac disease. Unfortunately, where I live, access to comprehensive testing (including total IgA and endoscopy with biopsy) is limited, which makes things more complicated. Your explanation about small-bowel damage, nutrient absorption, and iron-deficiency anemia still aligns closely with my history, and it’s been very helpful in understanding what may be going on. I don't wanna get Endoscopy and I can't start eating Gluten again because it's hurt really with severe diarrhea.  I appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed and informative guidance. Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful response. I really appreciate you pointing out the relationship between anemia and antibody patterns, and how the high DGP IgG still supports celiac disease in my case. A gluten challenge isn’t something I feel safe attempting due to how severe my reactions were, so your suggestion about genetic testing makes a lot of sense. I’ll look into whether HLA testing is available where I live and discuss it with my doctor. I also appreciate you mentioning gastrointestinal beriberi and thiamine deficiency. This isn’t something any of my doctors have discussed with me, and given my symptoms and nutritional history, it’s definitely worth raising with them. I’ll also ask about correcting deficiencies more comprehensively, including B vitamins alongside iron. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to help. I’ll update the forum as I make progress.
    • knitty kitty
      Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.
    • lizzie42
      Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
      Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
      Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
