Salmon packets for dinner again folks....yep they were just that good I have to have them again :D

I've been meaning to try that. Generally I broil mine - quite good but I'm feeling the monotony.

Any tricks/secrets??? I've seen recipes, which of course are all straightforward.

Fav spices for the salmon? I think it's time I start testing dried/ground spices. Been off them since late May '05, for mold concerns w/ anti-candida diet. Mefinks I've overdone it.

Yep, this is exactly what I'm gonna do. I cannot imagine going into Toys R Us, looking at an extensive list of items, half of which I won't even touch or see, choosing whatever thing falls into my price range, and having it boxed and delivered to her house.

Hanh?

What have we come to.......?.....no time to search for a heartfelt gift that YOU think of, and pick out, and touch? If she needs to return it for whatever reason, I will absolutely do that for her.....

There. Okay.....decision made......

Back to mini, flurrying posts!!

:D:D

As a former registrator . . . registrar . . . registerator . . . let me say that it is never a problem to not pick something off of the list . . . but believe me when I say that there are plenty of people who are just totally clueless as to what to get and it's not for lack of wanting to get something nice. An elderly single gentleman that I worked with at the time of my pregnancy wanted to get me something. He walked into Baby's R Us and a wonderful clerk helped him 'cause he looked like this . . . . She asked him if I was registsered . . . and he looked like this . . . . . . and she asked what my name was . . . and he happened to know . . . and she pulled up my list . . . and then he looked like this . . . :D . . . and he picked some stuff out . . . had a friend wrap it for him . . . and this is the best part . . . after he gave it to me, he asked me what that stuff was used for  I look at it as a list for those that need help . . . you apparently do not need any help . . . OK, I'm done.

Hey! I see Barack's been travelling on the whistle-stop train to Washington. Apparently, several hundred people from Ottawa arranged a huge tour bus to head down and meet him there. .. .

The train trip began here in Philadelphia. He flew in late yesterday afternoon (his plane landed about an hour and a half before Mark's!)

We've been watching the coverage on and off today on CNN.

Hee hee, at first I thought this was Janet asking me this....the eye avatar threw me off. When I got to the dried spices/herbs part I thought, "I didn't know Janet was off dried spices/herbs like Tom":lol:

OMGosh Thomas! The salmon packets are sooooo ridiculously easy and sooooo good, it's hard to believe there's not much to them when you taste it. It just steams it to perfection and so much flavor.

This is what I did:

Put down a sheet of foil large enough to be able to wrap up the salmon and veggies you are going to put inside.

Place yer piece of salmon in the middle, sprinkle with dill (fresh or dried), a pinch of sea salt, chop up a little onion and put that on top, same with bell pepper (I used red)

Then squeeze lemon juice over the top of everything.

Bring up the sides of the foil around the salmon and veggies and wrap it up and seal it into a little packet.

I put it on a baking sheet at this point just in case any of the juices spilled out (don't want to have a mess to clean up in the oven)

Bake at 450 degrees for 16-18 minutes

Ok, backtracking time for me . .. .

Reading thru today's multitude of pages, I wanted to keep momentum, w/out the interruption of slow postificating.

So anyway, this old(er) lady walks up and butts into the conversation with--"Nobody should eat wheat! "

. .....

Maybe she was one of the few phorum members w/ that opinion.

Reminds me of the conspiracy theorists, which also leave me head-scratching, in wonder at how ppl come to believe certain things.

Who loves the tv show Rescue Me???

Read today how Franco has a storyline about 9/11 being a neocon conspiracy.

AND that the actor who plays him believes it!!!!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhh (& mmmmmmmmm) I should've remembered dill!! While still in Phx I'd pick some from Mom's garden to use w/ salmon.

And (yay!) the rest are things I already eat.

Thx, I might make this my 1st dried herb test. :)

curlyfries Contributor

Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!

That is interesting, and it's the first time I heard about the umbilical cord beings used for that test. Thanks for sharing!

@lizzie42, You're being a good mom, seeking answers for your son.  Cheers! Subclinical thiamine deficiency commonly occurs with anemia.  An outright Thiamine deficiency can be precipitated by the consumption of a high carbohydrate meal.   Symptoms of Thiamine deficiency include feeling shakey or wobbly in the legs, muscle weakness or cramps, as well as aggression and irritability, confusion, mood swings and behavior changes.  Thiamine is essential to the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine which keep us calm and rational.   @Jsingh, histamine intolerance is also a symptom of Thiamine deficiency.  Thiamine is needed to prevent mast cells from releasing histamine at the slightest provocation as is seen in histamine intolerance.  Thiamine and the other B vitamins and Vitamin C are needed to clear histamine from the body.  Without sufficient thiamine and other B vitamins to clear it, the histamine builds up.  High histamine levels can change behavior, too.  High histamine levels are found in the brains of patients with schizophrenia.  Thiamine deficiency can also cause extreme hunger or conversely anorexia.   High carbohydrate meals can precipitate thiamine deficiency because additional thiamine is required to process carbohydrates for the body to use as fuel.  The more carbohydrates one eats daily, the more one needs additional thiamine above the RDA.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses. Keep in mind that gluten-free processed foods like cookies and such are not required to be fortified and enriched with vitamins and minerals like their gluten containing counterparts are.  Limit processed gluten-free foods.  They are often full of empty calories and unhealthy saturated fats and additives, and are high in histamine or histamine release triggers.  It's time you bought your own vitamins to supplement what is not being absorbed due to malabsorption of Celiac disease.  Benfotiamine is a form of Thiamine that has been shown to improve intestinal health as well as brain function. Do talk to your doctors and dieticians about supplementing with the essential vitamins and minerals while your children are growing up gluten free.  Serve nutritionally dense foods.  Meats and liver are great sources of B vitamins and minerals. Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your progress!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/

@SamAlvi, It's common with anemia to have a lower tTg IgA antibodies than DGP IgG ones, but your high DGP IgG scores still point to Celiac disease.   Since a gluten challenge would pose further health damage, you may want to ask for a DNA test to see if you have any of the commonly known genes for Celiac disease.  Though having the genes for Celiac is not diagnostic in and of itself, taken with the antibody tests, the anemia and your reaction to gluten, it may be a confirmation you have Celiac disease.   Do discuss Gastrointestinal Beriberi with your doctors.  In Celiac disease, Gastrointestinal Beriberi is frequently overlooked by doctors.  The digestive system can be affected by localized Thiamine deficiency which causes symptoms consistent with yours.  Correction of nutritional deficiencies quickly is beneficial.  Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine, helps improve intestinal health.  All eight B vitamins, including Thiamine (Benfotiamine), should be supplemented because they all work together.   The B vitamins are needed in addition to iron to correct anemia.   Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your progress!
