I seriously have lost vast swathes of my memory!!!

An old school friend sent me a message on the book asking me if I was going to 'Sharon's reunion do'

WHO the phark's Sharon????? ..........do I have contact with her????? ......... and more importantly I believe I would marginally prefer to poke my eyes out with a hot poker than go to a 'school reunion' !!

Oh dear gaaaaaawd!!!!!

Not sure I can EVEN remember who *I* am anymore!!:lol:

I got one o' those too :P Me insides leave a lot to be desired

So anyway.....I just did the stoopidest thing ever. I baked a loaf of me tried and true banana bread and instead of letting it sit for a phew minutes after taking it out of the oven, for some reason I flipped it immediately onto a cooling rack......but only the inside of the bread came out :o The sides and bottom were still stuck to the pan

It was phully cooked through, so I phlipped it back in and called it banana spoon bread :P

It's really good, too--I just got through eating a bunch of it off the counter

This has never happened to me before!

A compact disc on celiac disease. . . . ... all the strange and wondrous noises that accompany and engulf those afflicted. . . . .... Um, do NOT think I'd have that on my workout playlist. .. . ..

. . . but it will only make the cut if it has a fast enough beat.

He has been dx with purrless disease

Hmmmmm . . . I have a theory . . .

Poor wee purrless Harry!!!!! thwarted by inability to properly express his joy! Wonder what happened in his co-dependent past, his murky and questionable early childhood causing this dysfunctional limitation of not fully allowing himself the expression of feelings and thoughts? Well, good thing he's quite cute

Ummmm . . . Nikki had his peanuts cut off???? . . . Have you ever considered that Harry kept his purrbox there??

Hey Kids!! Love the pic/avs.

Sillies - do you remember the story of Janie (me WACKL mum) and the cabbage? When I left my head of cabbage at her house, and she calls me screaming with laughter whilst I'm in the grocery store? "ya left yer cabbage here" .....I must find it and post it here - - - Janie and I use the word cabbage all the time now, for many things......presently it is used to describe people's BAGGAGE - as in

"I think this new man I've met may have really unmanageable cabbage"

and then we SNOOOOOOOOORT with laughter

and we are not sure why it makes us laff so hard, but it doz

CABBAGE!!!!! Hehe. Would love to hear the story! But.......what made you think of that?

The cabbage story was a good 'un!

Janie and the cabbages :lol::lol:

Do you guys do that because you know it will drive me nuts and I will have to go back into the archives . . . with the possibility of never making it out alive . . . and retrieve said cabbage memory?

*sigh*

It worked:

OMG - must tell you guys about my mom.

She is a COMPLETE goof, but not everyone knows that.....reserves that side of herself for just a few of us - and the side that she and I bring out in each other - - pure madness - laughing SO hard that no sound comes out, we cannot breathe, stomachs hurt and....I actually have had to leave the room from her to make it stop.

So..........I usually go to her house every Sat or Sunday to hang out and watch food porn, etc. Now, it may not surprise you to know taht I am QUITE the absent-minded dingo-brained boob......ALWAYS leave stuff everywhere - in my house, in other rooms, in other people's homes, you name it. [ Um.....DAvid found it particularly entertaining that I have about eight pairs of magnifying spectacles in my house, yet can never find a single pair when I want to read something, so FINALLY tied a ribbon onto my desk w/ a pair of glasses on it.......he wanted to take a picture of this for my sillies. Alas, within a couple of days the glasses came undone from the ribbon and now.......just a ribbon leading to nothing hangs off my desk until I find them again. ]

<BTW this is all WORSE when I"m sleep-deprived  >

So......I nearly ALWAYs leave sumfin' at my mom's - - cell phone, glasses, sunglasses, or - whatever-in-hell I went there for - and despite our careful search before I leave - she calls my cell phone quite often when I"ve just driven off and says........."you left *blank* here........" and we always crack up and I turn around.... *sigh*

So - yesterday, she gave me a head of cabbage for today, knew I was heading to the grocery store and didn't have to buy one......or so we thought..............

So there I am, quietly and benignly strolling through the produce department - she calls my phone - I see it's her - I am punchy and tired - so I started kind of laughing right away......for no reason at all...... because I know what's coming.....I KNOW I"ve left something there but can't figure what.

I answer the phone and I hear choked-back sobs of laughter - the kind when no sound comes out and you can't breathe - -  And I instantly just dissolve into lunacy.

crazy lady is on the phone and she says - in this Appalachian accent she sometimes uses......

"ya left yer head a' cabbage her, right by ma phone.......might wanta pick one up at the store........."

and - - I don't know WHY in hell this struck us as so funny - - maybe because it's usually a phone, glasses, book I intended to borrow - whatever - but today it was a CABBAGE. (please note: it's GROEEN, BTW) But.......before I even said hello I heard the Mad Lady just cackling away.........it KILLS me, every time.......and there is a certain laugh we do that we ONLY do with each other......... <Janie HAS to come to our First Annual Absinthian Silly Fest in the Laurentians>

So.......there I am in Food Maxx...............collapsed over the front of my cart, bent over w/ my phone in hand, that hand on the handle and my head resting on that hand - other hand is gripping my belly......laughing sooooooooo hard that only high-pitched shrieks or choked guffaws were coming out.....in between periods of not being able to breathe and no sound emerging at all..........and I am bent over and........people started looking to see that I was okay and was not crying or seizing or anything like that....

This made me laugh quite a bit harder..............and.........well I think you get the picture........

mad dingo-brained woman cackling maniacally in the produce section, others quietly navigating AROUND this crazy lady..........

you guys would LOVE me mum!

OBama bringing his own crutch tip  to Em's ho' tub

Well, I dunno about him bringing his own crutch tip, but the pitching-in with shovelling idea just may take hold... . ...I've discovered that he does indeed have his own psnaough shovel at the ready!!

We're set, then! I'll simply have a couple of extra shovels for the massive secret service blokes who will certainly be accompanying him. . . . . ...

Nikerler!! Who in hell is Sharon??

I think perhaps it could be Ariel Sharon . .. .....did you spend any school time in Israel? He's probably just trying to hook up with old acquaintances and mates, as we all do on Da Book.......I'd go! If it's a gathering at his place, it could be quite a spread . . .....hmmmmmm.....the "do at Sharon's place"..........yes, for certain it's Ariel's compound in Jerusalem, I can just feel it. . . . . ...

Just read back a bit again. You also have Hiatal Hernias? Do you suppose this is a commonality with Psilliey Celiac people? Should we take a tally here? Of what percentage of Celiac people have said hernia, Psillies as opposed to others? Or is Psilliness not a phaktor in hiatalness. Perhaps, Celiac in not a phaktor, but we'll never know unless ALL people worldwide are screened for Celiac and for Hiatal Hernies as a course of regular phySikal eksam.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
