It was really mild here today--low 60's-- but we're gonna pay for it with some snow this weekend too. Ugh....

Been having lots of really strange dreams lately...and some kool ones. Dreamed of making copper arbors with huge dream catchers in the sides.....and dreamed of carving woodsy figures for the yard. I could be inspired to try both of them. Need to sketch out what I saw pretty soon or I'll forget that I even wanted to do this

Karry on the psillie......

I had a dream last night about an overflowing toilet. Apparently, in the dream I was much too tired to do anything about it....

We had a retirement party/dinner for my uncle tonight, just the five of us, and I made the BEST blondies ever!!!!! I haven't had those in ages. I also had a haystack cookie, another thing I haven't had in forever. Haystacks are PButter and butterscotch chips melted together poured over chowmein noodles and scooped into cookies to set in the fridge. So we used Sunbutter and Glutino pretzels and gluten-free butterscotch chips and theyre just like I remember!!!! I never eat sugar, so I'm a little woozy after a brownie AND a cookie!!!! That's my binge.... oy. I'm so lame.

Or . . . you could just make some of Nikki's fruit cake . . . did she ever share the recipe with you guys???

Here it is . . .

Nikki's Best (Gluten Free) Fruit Cake Ever

1 Cup Butter

1 Cup Sugar

4 Large Eggs

1 Cup Dried Fruit

1 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Baking Soda

1 tsp Salt

Lemon Juice

1 Cup Brown Sugar

Nuts

1 or 2 Quarts Whiskey

Before you start, sample the whiskey to check for quality. Good, isn't it? Now go ahead. Select a large mixing bowl, measuring cup, etc . . . Check the whiskey again as it must be just right. To be sure the whiskey is of the highest quality, pour one level cup into a glass and drink it as fast as you can. Repeat. With an electric mixer, beat 1 cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 tsp of thugar and beat again. Meanwhile, make sure the whiskey is of the finest quality. Cry another tup. Open second quart if necessary. Add 2 arge leggs, 2 cup of fried druit and beat till high. If druit gets stuck in beaters, just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the whiskey again, checking for tonscisity. Then sift 3 cups of salt or anything, it really doesn't matter. Sample the whiskey. Sift 1/2 pint lemon juice. Fold in chopped butter and strained nuts. Add 1 babblespoon of brown thugar, or whatever color you can find, and mix mell. Grease oven and turn cake pan to 350 degrees. Now pour the whole mess into the coven and ake. Check the whiskey again and bo to ged.

Morninnnnnng! I have a song running thru my head....Gordon Lightfoot ...".I'm on my second cup of coffee, still can't face the day".....

That's me this am. Gotta get ready for work and just don't wanna do it. I want to find the door into summer, pass through and lock it behind me! If nothing else, I guess I'll take some of my study materials with me to help pass the time. Pretty soon we'll be back to madhouse in the park!

My sister got through her surgery all right. They cleaned up the meniscus (was a mess) and took care of the cysts. She has to go through a second surgery about a month from now for the ACL reconstruction. Don't know why they couldn't do this all at once and get it over with. :( She had plans to come down in April to visit....doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

Guten Tag alles. Bright and Shiny! B)

Good Morning, Gang!

Sounds like the knees in question are managing through the recovery - - Vicodan.... ...sounds good.

Tareeeesuh, is your sister by any chance a basketball player? My RMT was telling me last week that torn ACLs are the most common injury to befall a female BB player - -with competitive teams, something like a third of the girls will suffer this. :o

Guten Tag alles. Bright and Shiny! B)

Gluten tags?? What a superb idea. . . . . .li'l tags found on food that could possibly contain tiny, CC'd amounts of the stuff. . . ...

Or does this refer to the action taken when posting and labeling a picture on Da Book of something that may contain gluten?

Good day, all.

Tis a tad on the chilly side here in Markham this morning. -17oC, with a wind out of the north at 20 km/h making it feel like -27oC.

Off to work i go...

Glad the first one is over. Having gone through three knee surgeries, my advice to your sister is

DO YOUR PT!

it makes the recovery so much better.

Gah. Worse here (colder, stronger wind) and get this: I bundled up to the point where I was absolutely unrecognisable (not just as me, but probably as a human), put the spiffy zip-up-da-back sweaters on the dogs, and off we went, dragging The Ripper in his snow pants and parka, to the trails near our house.

Trudged along for a brisk 45 minutes, until I could no longer stand Jack's plaintive screeching behind me...."Mom......MOM......!!! You are frickin' nuts. I need to turn aroooooouuuuunnnnnd!!!!":lol:

Kids these days.

It is regrettably too early still for a hot toddy.

Hmmmm....appetizer.....Jess, great parmesan suggestion, as it involves stuff ya tend to have around the kitchen. My favortite before-dinner, easy whip-up thing is bacon-wrapped dates. Problem often is that you don't have dates on hand.

You wrap a half piece of uncooked bacon around a pitted date and secure with a toothpick. I usually fill a cookie sheet with them, and they're into a 375 oven for about 25 mins. I have served them warm or cold....delicious either way, and cold is handy because you can do them ahead o' time.

SOOOOOOOOOOO yummeeeee. . . . .......

If you have pine nuts (but who does, on hand?) you can put a few sliced pieces in with the wrapped date.

OMG!! Love that! Official dessert of the silly summit!

My gawd Ter-essah, and she has to go through a second surgery now too. :( You know, my SIL who we just saw while in Syracuse a couple weeks ago, had what sounds like very similar surgery to repair her meniscus--she had cysts also--I'm thinking in the back of her knee?? I hope all goes smoothly for her from here :)

Eclair squares recpe BETTER be forthcoming!!!!!

Here's my favorite appetizer:

Appetizer Cheese Bake

1 egg lightly beaten

1 cup mayonnaise

1/8 tsp black pepper

3 cups finely shreded cheddar

1 onion finely chopped

Mix, put in greased 1 quart aking dish (glass) bake at 325 25 min til golden brown.

I know, it's retardedly high in calories, but ITS SO GOOD. It's really good with Chebe crackers or corn chips.

Nahhhhhh

Ummmm . . . it if was, it has some serious design issues . . . for instance, if you are going to extrude shapes, your "supply" feed area shouldn't be smaller than the "exit" area . . . is that TMI??? . . . how 'bout this . . . one good push and it goes flyin'.

If the Eclair squares pass the guest test (old friends, if this ends up being mush than we'll just eat ice cream) then I'll post it tomorrow . . . super easy to make.

I've had that cheese bake before (had a friend that used to make it) . . . it is yummy.

Honest to gawd, I am SOOOO pleased we have our Bevel in with us, constantly finding these unforgettable products!!!!:lol: This outdoes the sauna pants, Bev......I actually believe that it outdoes anything and everything. .. . . . . ...

Um, yeah, the cleaning question. . .. .....actually, I did notice one terrific poster ask in the forum underneath the ad, "Is it dishwasher safe?"

Yes, one good push and it goes flyin'. . . .......it would teach sphincter control and judgment skills, i.e., when NOT to try making poopy shapes - - some BMs are definitely more shapeable than others, and one would likely become very good at knowing ahead of time what to expect. This could be a crucial skill to develop.... . ....... . . . .

Dang......did it again and yeah I should admit I am 63 with clumsy phone thumbs. I started feeling better quickly and a doctor a year later said I had to eat  poison (gluten) every day for a month so he could formally diagnose me and NO FREAKING WAY. I couldn't then and can't imagine putting my body through that crap (no pun intended) on purpose ever again.  Why ingest poison for a month to have some doctor say Hey, All you Have To Do Is Never Eat poison Again..

15 years ago my best friend 'diagnosed' me as Celiac. Her little nephew had been formally diagnosed and her observations of me dealing with brain fog, stomach problems and other stuff had her convincing me to try going gluten free. Oh my heavens, within 3 days, no lie, I felt human again. Took me about a y

It seems like you have two choices--do a proper gluten challenge and get re-tested, or just go gluten-free because you already know that it is gluten that is causing your symptoms. In order to screen someone for celiac disease they need to be eating gluten daily, a lot of it--they usually recommend at least 2 slices of wheat bread daily for 6-8 weeks before a blood screening, and at least 2 weeks before an endoscopy (a colonoscopy is no used to diagnose celiac disease). Normally the blood panel is your first step, and if you have ANY positive results there for celiac disease the next step would be to take biopsies of your villi via an endoscopy given by a gastroenterologist.  More info on the blood tests and the gluten challenge beforehand is below: The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:   Not to discourage you from a formal diagnosis, but once you are diagnosed it may lead to higher life and medical insurance rates (things will be changing quickly in the USA with the ACA starting in 2026), as well as the need to disclose it on job applications. While I do think it's best to know for sure--especially because all of your first degree relatives should also get screened for it--I also want to disclose some negative possibilities around a formal diagnosis that you may want to also consider.

Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.
