Really?? Well I never ;) complain so *blows nose* it MUST be an authentic illness !!! *wrapping blanket a little tighter*

Does that mean that you've already got you Christmas stuff down, Sarah?

Tis unlucky to take it down before the 6th Jan!! (the twelve days of christmas an' all that)

And shame on me....I bought another box of the chocolate gummi bears yesterday.....I hid them though after I had a few...

Mornin all!

I was just catching up on all the Sillie news I missed yesterday.....My son and his girlfriend came from NJ, and we all had such a nice day. And yes, there was wine involved :D I'm a fiend :PB)

Our Sarah is back! Stupid Christmas glutenings

Bevvie wevvie!!! :D

Nikki--you poor thing :( The flu is awful--I hope it doesn't last long....take care, get lots of rest and don't forget the chicken soup ;)

I also need to go on a diet--way too much candy and cookies as of late--and all this talk of marshmallows, caramel and toffee is not helping  M-m-m...toffee.....

Love The Sound of Music! If I had to choose, I would say "My Favorite Things" is my favorite song from it, but all of the music was so good.

I have to say, though, that I can't wait for Desparate Housewives to come back.....

Peter is our sillie oracle---that struck me as so funny. "oracle"

I bet that was nice, get to show the house off :)

I spent Saturday with my mom at her house. It was a lot of fun. I exchanged gifts with everyone and got to play with Sabrina. I bought her this Playskool walker/riding toy. She enjoyed the box more than anything. It was an exhausting day though, since I drove 2 hrs to get there and 2 back...by 10 that night I was out. I slept through John watching the patriots/NYG game....darn! LOL :)

Good Morning Emily!

How are you on the last day of 2007?

Well, I just went and executed one of the toughest workouts in years. Pushed myself VERY hard on the treadmill, flames coming off my runners, etc., as damage control. I am not weighing myself...not until next week...or perhaps the week after..

Oh!...Bring on the bad luck...Cannot stand looking at the suff anymore. It's COMIN' DOWN TODAY!!

Yes, I think I'm the only one on the planet who just cannot manage to appreciate all of the SOM score. Now, if we're gonna talk about unforgettable performances and music that is in a class by itself, THIS gets me every time:

Amanda - cute new Av - and excellent captionizing . . . ain't it the truth.

She actually spent Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the following day with her biological mom...and when my mom picked her back up at Child Services on Thursday, she found out the baby hadn't had a change of clothes the entire time she was "home" My mom peered in the diaper bag at all the clean clothes she sent, it was obvious none had ever been touched. Then the one pair of pajamas that she must have worn her whole visit, were literally pitch black....eww! My mom dunked her in the bath tub the minute she got her home.

So after my rant...sorry had to get that off my chest. So I saw her and we all gave her presents on Saturday. She is such a pleasant baby...she has been in the system since birth...her mom has supposedly done almost everything that she needs in order to get her child back. But when the baby's father comes along (mom's boyfriend) she forgets about the baby...even leaving it alone for hours...and now the baby comes back to us dirty. So I guess if the mom screws up again the baby will go for adoption. So in my eyes, why not allow her to keep screwing up and let the baby go to a family who wants her....an adoptive home. The system will keep delaying it and delaying it and by the time she is ready for adoption she could be 3 or 4...if not older and than her chances of getting adopted get smaller and smaller...people want babies. I know some people need those chances to prove themselves but look at the best interest of the kid....give her half the chance to have a great life....

Sorry for the rant.

Good Choice Emily !!

I have just watched ''OLIVER!'' (1968 version with Oliver Reed - the only one worth watching IMO)

Food glorious food!

Hot sausage and Mustard!!!

(we are driving Susie INSANE!)

..so what's everyone doing tonight??

Hubby's brother (who lives in Australia) has already phoned us wishing us a Happy New Year

I will be watching movies (with blanket) on the sofa...Mmmmm, things just ain't as wild as they used to be.....

I will try to stay up until midnight !!

That was so good--I love musicals! :D

My favorites are "My Fair Lady" and "The Music Man"--I saw the latter twice on broadway during it's run a few years ago. We were there for Craig Bierko's last performance, a Sunday matinee--I'll never forget it.

Nothing beats the original movie, though--this just mkes me happy--

OMG - how evil - did you know that See's candy has been doing this exact thing for years? 'tis my favorite thing in the store........PURE EVIL!!!!!!!!!

I made homemade marshmallows last night...enjoying them in my coffee now (um, they ARE to be given away).......I guess my no-sugar rule has not gone into effect yet.....

(Susie doesn't .. )

Back to bed....

you guys WON"T believe this....I LOVE Sound of Music!!!!!!!!! watched it last night, as a matter of fact, for the bazillionth time......there ARE a handful of musicals I do love - mostly from childhood - until I became a cranky-ass jaded adult.

Christopher Plummer is DELICIOUS in that role...............

NIKKI!!!!!! Man flu!!!!!!!! oh so sorry little kitten, make the boys wait on YOU today!!!!!!!

Oh, Nikki...sorry you're ill. :( It's only man flu if you whine and complain like a baby. ;)

Seems a little early for gardening. Does that mean that you've already got you Christmas stuff down, Sarah? And has anybody heard if the special adhesive garland (ie, duct tape) was all that Alex needed to finish off her tree?

hmm......what DID ever become of Alex's evil tree?

Amanda........rant away. This is sooooo sad. :( My friend Gail is an attorney for the county, in juvenile court....she has seen some unbelievably heinous things. (she works to get babies/children placed in good homes.) we must pray for little Sabrina to find a good home sooner than later. She looks adorable. I want to PUNISH her stupid crack-wh_ _ _ mother....... (insert angry-faced emoticon)

oops - did I say that????????

Mornin' all. And happy almost (or current?) New Year.

I, um, own all the musicals mentioned so if anyone plans to torture Susie I would suggest kidnap and park her in front of my TV with some heinous musical playing

And maybe Peter can explain to me why my cat feels like knocking me over in the kitchen is the best way to convince me he deserves treats...

Somehow, I missed this....that's horrible :( I have to say I agree with everything Susie said on the subject of the mom. I will keep a good thought for little Sabrina :)

Hey there, have you been tested for allergies? You may not only have celiac disease but be allergic. I have celiac disease and am allergic to Barley, wheat and rye.

I have osteopenia and have cracked three vertebrae.  Niacin is connected to osteoporosis! Do talk to your nutritionist and doctor about supplementing with B vitamins.  Blood tests don't reveal the amount of vitamins stored inside cells.  The blood is a transportation system and can reflect vitamins absorbed from food eaten in the previous twenty-four to forty-eight hours.  Those "normal limits" are based on minimum amounts required to prevent disease, not levels for optimal health.   Keep us posted on your progress.   B Vitamins: Functions and Uses in Medicine https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9662251/ Association of dietary niacin intake with osteoporosis in the postmenopausal women in the US: NHANES 2007–2018 https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11835798/ Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/   Nutritional Imbalances in Adult Celiac Patients Following a Gluten-Free Diet https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8398893/ Nutritional Consequences of Celiac Disease and Gluten-Free Diet https://www.mdpi.com/2036-7422/15/4/61 Simplifying the B Complex: How Vitamins B6 and B9 Modulate One Carbon Metabolism in Cancer and Beyond https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9609401/

Thank you so much for the clarification! Yes to these questions: Have you consulted dietician?  Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  Osteoporosis? Thyroid? Anemia?  Do you take any supplements, or vitamins? I’m within healthy range for nutritional tests, thyroid and am not anemic. I do have osteopenia. I don’t take any medications, and the dietician was actually a nutritionist (not sure if that is the same thing) recommended by my physician at the time to better understand gluten free eating.    I almost wish the gluten exposure had triggered something, so at least I’d know what’s going on. So confusing!    Many thanks!
    • knitty kitty
@JudyLou,  I have dermatitis herpetiformis, too!  And...big drum roll... Niacin improves dermatitis herpetiformis!   Niacin is very important to skin health and intestinal health.   You're correct.  dermatitis herpetiformis usually occurs on extensor muscles, but dermatitis herpetiformis is also pressure sensitive, so blisters can form where clothing puts pressure on the skin. Elastic waist bands, bulky seams on clothing, watch bands, hats.  Rolled up sleeves or my purse hanging on my arm would make me break out on the insides of my elbows.  I have had a blister on my finger where my pen rested as I write.  Foods high in Iodine can cause an outbreak and exacerbate dermatitis herpetiformis. You've been on the gluten free diet for a long time.  Our gluten free diet can be low in vitamins and minerals, especially if processed gluten free foods are consumed.  Those aren't fortified with vitamins like gluten containing products are.  Have you consulted dietician?  Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  Osteoporosis? Thyroid? Anemia?  Do you take any supplements, medicine, or vitamins? Niacin deficiency is connected to anemia.  Anemia can cause false negatives on tTg IgA tests.  A person can be on that borderline where symptoms wax and wane for years, surviving, but not thriving.  We have a higher metabolic need for more nutrients when we're sick or emotionally stressed which can deplete the small amount of vitamins we can store in our bodies and symptoms reappear.   Exposure to gluten (and casein in those sensitive to it) can cause an increased immune response and inflammation for months afterwards. The immune cells that make tTg IgA antibodies which are triggered today are going to live for about two years. During that time, inflammation is heightened.  Those immune cells only replicate when triggered.  If those immune cells don't get triggered again for about two years, they die without leaving any descendents programmed to trigger on gluten and casein.  The immune system forgets gluten and casein need to be attacked.  The Celiac genes turn off.  This is remission.    Some people in remission report being able to consume gluten again without consequence.   However, another triggering event can turn the Celiac genes on again.   Celiac genes are turned on by a triggering event (physical or emotional stress).  There's some evidence that thiamine insufficiency contributes to the turning on of autoimmune genes.  There is an increased biological need for thiamine when we are physically or emotionally stressed.  Thiamine cannot be stored for more than twenty-one days and may be depleted in as little as three during physical and emotional stresses. Mitochondria without sufficient thiamine become damaged and don't function properly.  This gets relayed to the genes and autoimmune disease genes turn on.  Thiamine and other B vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients are needed to replace the dysfunctional mitochondria and repair the damage to the body.   I recommend getting checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies.  More than just Vitamin D and B12.  A gluten challenge would definitely be a stressor capable of precipitating further vitamin deficiencies and health consequences.   Best wishes!
