Questions For Utah Celiacs

Has anyone ever heard of a place that makes donuts with potato flour? I had a church teacher from Utah as a child who used to praise donuts made somewhere in the Utah Valley with potato flour...since I live here now, and I can't have REGULAR sweets, I thought I'd look into it. Maybe I'm just wishful thinking....

Also, anyone been to the Chef's Table in Orem? I wanted to go there for my birthday, but wondered about the celiac factor. I'd love to hear experiences, good and bad. I am making big pot of Tuscan Tomato soup right now. The recipe is from Chef's table, and it's a favorite of mine.

Anyway, thx a bunch!

Ooo if you find out about the donut place I'd love to know where it is!! I wish I could help you find it :(

A few months back a relative of mine said he heard about a place that makes gluten-free pizza....I haven't had any luck finding that place either (if one even exists here <_<)

So yeah this was kind of a pointless post

Hopefully somebody else will come along who can be more helpful :D

I don't know of anywhere in this area that still makes potato doughnuts. And (though I hate to be depressing) there is a Spudnut shop (potato doughnuts) in my hometown in Washington, and all the doughnuts have wheat flour in them, as well as potato flour. Sorry!

I also haven't heard about a place around here that makes gluten-free pizza . . . though Charlotte's bakery in Salt Lake does make fresh gluten free breads. Against the Grain in Taylorsville carries them.

Oooo yes Charlotte's bakery makes wonderful breads! My fav is orange cranberry :D

The owner of Against the Grain told me you can buy pizza crusts there and take them to a pizza place (I forget the name but I'm pretty sure it's in the same shopping center as her but you should definitely ask her) and they will put the sauce, cheese and toppings on and cook it for you.

OK I found the potato flour donuts in SLC. Open Original Shared Link Tasty's donuts. I called though and she said they do have wheat flour in them as well as potato. :(

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
