Still trying to find people in Raleigh? Anyone out there??

SouthernCeliacGirl Newbie

Anyone from the Raleigh area? The support group here isn't very active, so I'd love to meet some new people.

Welcome!!

I'm from the Raleigh area and tried to contact the TGIG group numerous times. I finally emailed their webmaster after the other contact person never replied and he did write back. He basically said that the group isn't active (lack of attendance/interest) and that the leaders were just burned out. I'm trying to decide if I have enough time/energy to try to breathe life into an official support group or if some of us should just maybe meet informally from time to time. Whaddya think?

Hi

I am from Apex and would like to get to know some fellow celiacs also. Would be glad to be a part of an official or unofficial group.

I haven't been on here in a while b/c I was frustrated with getting no replies, but I would love to meet you two! I'm not sure yet how to send an e-mail through this, but once I figure it out I'll send you one. Hope to talk to you soon!

Hey, don't forget about me.

I am in Edenton (about two hours east of Raleigh).

SouthernCeliacGirl, I am sorry that you did not feel welcome here or ignored. But that is not the first time that I have heard that. :( Try it again, perhaps it will be different. Tarheels are growing in numbers!

I'm in Cary and would LOVE a suppport group or even just a group to bounce ideas and food finds with (like some yummy NO GLUTEN cheese puffs I found at Kroger).

I'm so new to this and feel (minus the two books I got at Borders and a supportive husband and family) kind of alone with this.

Thanks!

B:

This is the best support group that you can find. Everyone here on this site is wonderfully informative and the rule here is that there are no stupid questions. Everything that you could possible want/need to know is here.

The recipe section is boundless.

Welcome and always feel free to ask away.

You're not alone! I have been gluten free for about 2 1/2 years now and it gets to be a lot easier.

We are very lucky to have Whole Foods and Trader Joe's as you said, but I have found that buying my bread mixes etc from Amazon is even easier. I also get a lot of flours from the Asian Market at South Hills. Of course, this all depends on how much baking you like to do. Lowes foods on Kildaire Farms Road carries a small selection in their frozen foods, waffles, Amy's frozen meals and breads.

There are a few of us locally that have said we'd like to get together, but have not done it yet. Busy lives of course. Ask any questions you have and I will be pleased to help.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
