Hey all,

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but i just saw in this month's Health magazine an article on gluten-free beers! They did a taste test between New Grist, Bard's Tale and Ramapo Valley - New Grist earned an A. i just love seeing articles on gluten-free things... :D

Don't forget about Red Bridge from Anheuser Busch - it coms out next week in Las Vegas (the distributor gave me a complimentary 12 pack if I promised to piblicie the beer to the Celiac Community)

Hey "formerly gluten-free-in-Ohio" -- are you saving that beer for the Gators/Bucs game? I'm formerly from Ohio, but I live in Gainesville.....

Okay Broncobux---- lets have the scoop on the beer .... surely it has been sampled & tested ---"GONE" by todays date. It has to be wow or no response of ugh....

It's time to come out & make your official statement as a beer consultant.....we may even see you on the billboards promoting beer...... hummmmmm does that pay well???

The Redbridgebeer.com retail locator is working as of late Wednesday night. I was finally able to buy it in my area (central east coast Florida)! For a former Bud and Coors drinker, - not bad! A bit more bitter, but definitely something that I can get use to. Out of desperation, my DH (also gluten intolerant) was brewing his own sorghum beer (same types of hops as Redbridge uses) - Redbridge is clearer (it has the same clarity as other beer), and a little more bitter, but very close in flavor. I rate this one better than Bards Tale and definitely much closer to traditional beer than Rampapo Valley (I haven't been able to get ahold of New Grist, so I have no clue on this one). Hopefully you will like it.

With AB now in the gluten-free specialty market, we will probably see some of the other major brewers develop their own version of gluten-free beer. Whether we choose to drink or not, this is definitely something that will have an impact on the general awareness of gluten, celiac disease and gluten intolerance.

Thanks for the heads up on the retail locator - but how is it possible that there are no stores in NYC or westchester?! Brooklyn is the only area that came up - thats crazy! :( cant wait to try it!

There was no retailer in my zip code. Does anyone know if it did an area search or do I have to manually enter/seach each zip code in the DC metro area?

Hey Tim,

I'm not sure which beer you're wanting to try, but I know that Whole Foods carries New Grist as I just bought some there last weekend. I'm not a big beer drinker by any means but every so often I'll have a taste for one so I thought I'd give it at try. I can't tell you what it tastes like though as I haven't had one yet, lol. I've got a couple in the fridge and will have one tonight. I'll let you know how I like it.

      Protein or fat?

      Hi,  I care for my seven year old daughter with Celiac. After watching her for months, I have figured out that she has problem with two kinds of fats- animal fat and cooking oils. It basically makes her intestine sore enough that she feels spasms when she is upset. It only happens on days when she has eaten more fat than her usual every day diet. (Her usual diet has chia seeds, flaxseeds, and avocado/ pumpkin seeds for fat and an occasional chicken breast.) I stopped using cooking oils last year, and when I reintroduced eggs and dairy, both of which I had held off for a few months thinking it was an issue of the protein like some Celiac patients habe mentioned to be the case, she has reacted in the same fashion as she does with excess fats. So now I wonder if her reaction to dairy and eggs is not really because of protein but fat.   I don't really have a question, just wondering if anyone finds this familiar and if it gets better with time.  Thank you.

      Hello, My name is Chanda and you are not the only one that gose through the same things. I have found that what's easiest for me is finding a few meals each week that last. I have such severe reactions to gluten that it shuts my entire body down. I struggle everyday with i can't eat enough it feels like, when I eat more I lose more weight. Make sure that you look at medication, vitamins and shampoo and conditioner also. They have different things that are less expensive at Walmart.

      Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!!       Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.
