what is a celiac panel?

Hi cat, and welcome :)

The Celiac Panel consists of these blood tests-

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG

Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA

Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA

Total Serum IgA

You would need to be still consuming gluten on a regular basis prior to the testing to avoid skewing the results. It's also important that the doctor/lab run all of the tests--not just one or two.

So doing the following has nothing to do with celiac, right?? The doc says she was testing me for celiac, but I am guessing she forgot to check something off the lab requisition?? :blink:

- CBC and diff

- reticulocyte count

- a "blood film to pathologist"

- ferritin (doc is redoing, I am low)

Well, apparently your doctor is testing you for everything BUT celiac disease. In other words, your doctor is lying if she claims she is testing you for celiac disease.

lol... that's a hilarious set of tests to run if you're trying to test for celiac disease - in that they don't test for celiac disease at all!

Is that supossed to be reticulin??? :unsure:

If it is....then it would be a test for Celiac...if it were an anti-reticulin antibody test.

The best tests would be the ones listed previously in the Celiac Panel.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
