I figured I'd post this now when I'm a tiny bit more calmed down about things, so that it makes a little more sense I hope...

umm well what she said is its definitely both scopes, Feb. 27th is the date..its at 7:30 am, but I gotta be there at 7

I asked if they HAD to freeze my throat(told her how i had issues before) and she said no, just tell them...

i cant even drink anythin after midnight that day...starve day before..coffee/tea is all i'm allowed..gotta drink some stupid laxatives startin at 5 pm the day before test..

and have to eat gluten for 5 frickin days :blink::o .. 5 days before = started day after my scope in Saskatoon, and I have a midterm on day #2 of gluten  (99% sure I'll be failing that one). I cant change that midterm because I'm already switching 2 other ones around for the Saskatoon scope. OH ANDD I have to eat AT LEAST 2 piece of regular bread those horrible days (screw the bread, I'm going for the stuff like subs and anythin else I cant find replacements for)

I think this test is gonna kill me. Well not kill me physically (i hope), but mentally/emotionally. Yesterday at school was the first time I ever left to the bathroom just to cry. it was like WHAM all this important stuff to find out in a few mins. I dont even want to imagine the pain, because I KNOW how painful it'll be eating normal food for 4 days!!

Have any of you ever had 3 scopes/biopsies done within a 6 day span?? I highly doubt it...How I'm gonna do this I really dont know :( I didnt fall asleep til about 7 am this morning because my mind was running to much.....If only more people could understand.

OK I'm gonna add this to this post because its what caused all my new issues...I honestly feel like having a nervous breakdown because of it.

To remind you, my endoscopy in Saskatoon will fall right in the middle of midterms, on Feb. 21. Since most of you have had an endoscopy, you know you need a day to recover, yes??

Well, (Daxin on this board knows the school i'm talking about), SIAST/Palliser have strictly decided I CANNOT write the midterms from the 21st and 22nd on the 20th, simply because they think we'll go and tell everyone in Palliser what was on the tests (no i'm not kidding you!!!). So all they could say was write on the 23rd and 28th. OK, 1 more on the 23rd is fine...but on the 28th is when I'm on my way back from Calgary and trying to recover from THAT endoscopy/colonoscopy. And I'm not allowed to write on the weekend...

I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO *cries*. I AM NOT changing my appointments, not when theres a crazy wait!!

PLEASE GIVE SUGGESTIONS!!!!!!!

I wish I had a suggestion for you. All I can say is most of my university degree was done as an undiagnosed celiac. And I know how it feels to be sick from gluten when you are trying to write a final. I know that is why I did poorly in many classes. When you have to leave an exam because the immodium isn't working, it really sucks.

So to compound how I felt for years with additional testing for you in the middle of exams. Holy s**t. I feel for you. I don't see why they can't at least try to accomodate you with rescheduling some finals. Especially because your appointments also need to be done sooner than later. I wish I could help you.

Wow, that's a lot of information to process all at once. I'm happy that you have your appointments are so soon and I'm sorry that you have to eat gluten and that your midterms are around the same time (or on the same day in one case).

My advice is to not cancel any of your appoitments. Health is important... I would go to a trusted prof and tell them everything. Maybe you can write the midterms after the week-end or before you start eating gluten. You may get better luck asking to write them before you start eating gluten and before the appoitments. There should be someone who is understanding and who will help.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Well that is the whole issue....they wont let me write before I start eating gluten or before I have the appointments (because like I say, they think I'm gonna go blabbing what was on the test to everyone). The college in Yorkton would be just fine with it, and my teachers said they wouldnt care if I'm in there writing a different exam...its the main college (in Moose Jaw) that says nope...they get the final decision. You're not allowed to speak to someone from Moose Jaw either.

the only idea i can think of is to get one of my family docs to write a letter saying I DO have these tests and I NEED a recovery day after each and sent it direction to Palliser ... for those who agree, please say. Because I'm determined to follow whatever suggestion I get the most..

Just to clarify, Lisa, are you having an endoscopy on the 21st and then an endo and colonoscopy on the 27th? Is there any increased risk (infection or damage to system) to have the second procedure so soon after the first? Is 6/7 days long enough to recuperate before undergoing meds and scopes again?

Yes, endoscopy on 21st, both on 27th. And i'm not sure how safe it is  ...I usually recuperate within a few days but need at least 1 to sleep.

Lisa,

Here we can take an "incomplete" and finish the course the next semester without any penalties. Is that an option?

jerseyangel Proficient

Lisa,

I see you have thought about it, but I was actually going to suggest you get something in writing from your doctor. That might hold more weight with the school.

It's worth a try, anyway. :)

Yeah, thanks glad you agree. I'll reply later (even from school) once I find out how to get that phone # ... I want this next month to be OVER WITH already.

And btw Jestgar, cant do that (the incomplete) because I already will be 1 class short of graduating and kinda already got things planned out about how I'm gonna make up for that 1 class.

Definitely ask your doctor to send a letter to (or maybe even call) the school.

Lisa,

Hope all goes well. I was undiagnosed most of my Junior year of college. I was able to incomplete one of my classes because I was sick and make the work up later.

Nancy

Yeah...calling would be a good idea but I bet you anything the school wouldnt believe that either. I think actual document might be the only thing that works. I'm gonna see if the main guy here is back from dinner yet, will post again soon. Wish me luck, everyone

OK I talked to the principle dude/main guy and he even called to Palliser to talk to the main guy there but he wasnt in..and his receptionist even said theres absolutely no way. I asked if there was ANYTHING, even with a VERY valid reason that would permit me to write them sooner, and they completely refuse. He said he completely understands why I need the time off and even himself said if it was their choice I could write them before.

So I guess its final....

I have to write 2 on friday, feb 23rd (1 from 9-1 pm, the other 4-8:30 like planned)...and 1 on thursday, mar 1st (from 9-1 pm). no other choices. :( .. ugh!!!

Time to say NOT GOOD THINGS about this whole system

Lisa,

I am sorry to hear about all the things that have been going on with your exams. I can emapthize however.

It angers me that the school is so inflexable as to not let you write early, since you will be not only out of commission, but physically out of the province during the rest of the exams. There is NO WAY you could pass on information to your fellow students!

I hope things go well, and you find the answers you seek. We're all here for you (eh. ;))!

Lisa,

Just getting back on line after some time.

Missed this.

*bumps* 15 days to go

btw, I got my midterms changed around yet again. So this IS the final plan:

I write one this friday (Feb 16th)

and I write the other 4 from March 5th to March 8th

They are also allowing me some extra days off for rest, as long as I get a doctors note.

Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.
