Should I Have My Daughter Biopsied

My 4yr old was diagnosed with celiac disease 2yrs ago- her symptoms were severe, weight loss, distended tummy, etc.... My 6 yr old is thin, tall, bright, but has difficulty staying focused- I best describe it as brain fog. She and I were given the panal to test for celiac. out of the 4 screens 1 area came was out of range for both of us, it was Gliadin Ab IgG. It should be negative <11 . Mine was 26 and hers was 11. I put her on a gluten free diet b/c I was so frustrated with her inability to focus. It has been 2 months and I have seen no visible changes. Help! The nearest reliable pediatric G.I is 12 hours away. Any Suggestions? Did anyone else have a child suffer from brain fog due to celiac?

Now that she's been gluten free for 2 months, the biopsy would not be accurate. If positive it would be acceptable, but if negative, it could be falsely negative because she healed on the gluten-free diet. You need to be eating gluten in order to see the inflammation and damage. You would have to do a gluten challenge for a few months. If you saw no improvement, personally I would put her back on gluten so she can be properly retested. Good luck.

AGA antibodies are not a good test for celiac disease----and your daughter's test was only .1 above nrgative----i agree with rez, i'd put her back on gluten to get a proper test done.

      I'm not saying that some celiacs won't need it, but it should be done under a doctor's supervision because it can cause lots of problems in some people.

      I also noticed I get debilitating migraines when I smell gluten, wheat and its not taken seriously when it affects one in every way.Im still begging to properly be heard.I also noticed tolerance level is down the drain with age and life changes. I have been told by incompetent medical that im not celiac or that sensitive. Diagnosed in 1994 by gi biopsy gluten-free ever since along with other lovely food allergies. Prayers

      trents:  Why some can tolerate european bread but not american bread.     I take 600 mcg a day.  Right in the middle of the safe range.   Groups at Risk of Iodine Inadequacy Though though the NIH does not specifically list Celiac Disease in this group, they state: "Iodide is quickly and almost completely absorbed in the stomach and duodenum. Iodate is reduced in the gastrointestinal tract and absorbed as iodide [2,5]."  That would certainly include malabsorption of Iodine due to Celiac Disease with resultant Iodine Deficiency.       Wheatwacked, are you speaking of the use of potassium bromide and and azodicarbonamide as dough modifiers being controlling factor for what? Do you refer to celiac reactions to gluten or thyroid disease, kidney disease, GI cancers?
