UGH its 5:30 am already and I still CANT fall asleep. I'm so tired that I cant keep my eyes open, yet actually falling asleep is impossible.

I can only think of one suspect: gluten. I sure feel more stomach pains than normal, or maybe its just the pains themselves that is causing it. i don't know man, i just HATE IT. I NEED to be sleeping, and its so stupid i canttttt :(

EDIT: Make that 6:30 now... ok seriously, what do you guys do to help when it gets this bad??

I pretty much just whine about it. I've melatonin and kava and they sometimes help but I wake up feeling hung over.

I'm finally today getting over a week of bad sleeping, but of course I had to get up and come to work...

It's funny, for years I had periodic bouts of insomnia, and I was always a light sleeper, early riser. I never connected them to my stomach issues or problems with my hands and feet.

Now, I'm the heaviest sleeper ever! I fell asleep on the coach the other night, and my wife said she just about had to drop-kick me to wake me up. And I keep sleeping through alarms, I think I need to get a loader one! Without a snooze.

I'm sorry that you are having truble sleeping. I would suggest going for a walk/jog to get tired... But you may not feel like it and the weather isn't always all that warm. A glass of wine may also help?

I've been gluten free for 5 weeks now. I have always had a hard time going to sleep and staying asleep. Finally in the last week I'm sleeping better and having trouble waking up. I find if I wait until my body is ready to go to sleep, when I go to bed I usually go to sleep. I know it is frustrating.

Yea, I had insomnia for years. Mine ended up being due to the gluten. My insomnia went away along with everything else when I went gluten-free.

I used to turn on the TV to something like the history channel, and just doze off to it. Even if I didn't fall asleep any faster, it helped to not stress out about it. If I just laid there, I would obsess about it and make it worse.

I only get it now when I am glutened but it is HORRIBLE...like you described. Exhausted but you can't sleep. :( I take prescription medication when this happens. Otherwise, not only am I glutened but I'm so comatose the next day that I feel even worse (9and do dumb things like put my socks in the refrigerator instead of the hamper.

I didnt get to sleep til about 8 am --it was already light outside  . So i ran yesterday on about 2 hours to sleep. I didnt really feel too much out of the ordinary pains, just the insomnia which is why i suspect gluten. Usually I'm the one with excessive sleeping and deep sleeping.

And it dont help that I know have a cold (sore throat, etc) so i gotta deal with that too kinda keeping me up/wearing me out.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but it might!

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
