Natural & Artificial Flavors

I wanted to know how everyone deals with natural and artifical flavors. Do you actually call the manufacturer or do you assume? I am finding that it is in everything and it is stopping me from eating those things unless I call to confirm what those natural and artificial flavors are coming from? Any suggestions? Thanks

I call, if I was a little more organized I would make a list. Some companies that I have called were not gluten free.

If either contained wheat, it is required by law to list wheat as an ingredient.

wheat, yes, but barley malt can readily hide in Natural flavors....

I stay away from natrual flavors except the ones I've verified or Kraft. Now if I could just remember who all was Kraft!

There are many companies that state that they will clearly list all gluten ingredients, way beyond Kraft. So if it is one of these companies, in general, you should not worry.

This post should help some with companies (esp the first two posts):

Some people do not choose to ck on flavorings but I do still. I either ck with manufacturer directly, if they do not list all forms of gluten, or know it is safe if no gluten is listed with certain brands (ie. Kraft).

Absolutely my point with Kerrigan, the owner. She stood to secure many years of faithful patronage by simply inviting us in for a pastry or lunch. Or by simply producing another $50 e-card based on trust. We would have been highly satisfied. We are limited to a few restaurants in the area, and that would have been one. It was very disappointing, esp to my wife, to realize we can't patronize the place anymore.

You would think any business would see the wisdom of honoring a $50 gift certificate on the basis of customer satisfaction alone, apart from any questions about software glitches.

So there was no physical, plastic card involved, correct?

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.
